Another thing is if you go for blink first then bkb you have like no damage items on you and if you can't find easy kills here and there then you're kinda screwed in my mind. Not sure how i should build him :/ I'm just going to come in here and play TheYango, and say that this wouldn't necessarily make slardar that much better (though, it wouldn't hurt that much as a whole). Slardar's sprint as a whole is a skill built to help him escape, and maneuver in the closing moments in a teamfight (such as chasing down heroes trying to escape when blink is on CD), but it isn't that good as a whole during the actual teamfight. Any hero that has a debuff that increases their damage taken (or MoM), and doesn't have some ridiculous lockdown (Chrono, for example) isn't usually going to want to use that ability when there are 5 heroes fighting one another and lots of AoE spells are being used (Sven is a notable exception here because A: he picks up a BKB typically first B: his burst damage is much more significant C: His cleave can hit multiple enemies D: He has a ranged stun E: Warcry gives a ridiculous amount of armor that mitigates the effect of MoM). Slardar doesn't have most of these benefits (slithereen crush is even a melee range stun, so that hurts a bit), and Slardar usually will pick up a blink quickly which negates his need for the use of sprint to initiate (which isn't effective anyways). Slardar isn't that bad anyways - he's still a decent hero. Just forgotten and has a few problems in the current style of play.

I could swear we just had a nice long discussion on why you should always rush blink on centaur. Yango approved. Musta happened in Simple Questions Simple Answers thread. Can you explain why you would get blink on Slardar and NOT on centaur? lol. EDIT: On April 23 2013 03:51 TheYango wrote: The better comparison is Blink on Slardar. You CAN use Sprint to engage, but in most scenarios against strong opponents, it's not practical to do so, because a Sprint/Stampede engage will get you 2 stomp targets max. Slardar is actually also the most comparable hero for this discussion, and itemizing Centaur follows a similar mindset--you can buy DPS items and be quite effective if you are fed--but outside of those really fed early game scenarios, it's generally more reliable to focus on Blink initiation and team items that also enhance your personal combat power (e.g. Halberd, Assault Cuirass). From this very thread.

Oh, I thought we both were making a joke about that. I was sarcastic D:

Slardar is just bad when compared to Always-Better centaur man (barring corner cases of invis detection and retarded supports who won't buy any). Eh, there is a lot to say about this, but i'll keep it really short because Centuar isn't in CM. A. Slardar's amplify damage is really, really strong. You're underrating it. B. Slardar can be curtailed to really early rosh strategies on direside that focus on taking out an early mid t1 and roshing around 10 minutes in. C. Slardar has much more significant right click damage and scales much better than centuar, and you can't discount how good his bash can be. Centuar has better burst damage in the first 20 minutes, yes, and his ultimate is pretty damn good, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other.

I find it hard to believe that teams will actually bet their own money on showmatches among themselves but it would be awesome to see lol.

I find it hard to believe that teams will actually bet their own money on showmatches among themselves but it would be awesome to see lol. Comparing Sven and Slardar is kind of odd - they are completely different heroes that are played quite differently, in my opinion. Sven is traditionally run as either a support / roaming ganker, or as a 1 position hard carry, farm absorbing hero. Slardar is seen as either a 2 (situationally can be run mid, though he usually won't even win that lane), as a aggressive 1 (in a roll similar to CK), or a trilane 3 position hero. I don't understand how 8 / 14 / 20 armor reduction, 10 CD, 25 duration vision granting spammable spell isn't good. Slardar is a situational pickup, and generally you grab him when you are running dual / tricore lineups (gyrocopter on the safelane seems like a good idea to me), and if you draft intelligently, that minus armor becomes much more significant.
