IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

Not in CM to my knowledge. He's part of the new batch of heroes just before latest batch(That funny gnome and frost drake). All 6(?) of the new heroes aren't in CM

It depends a lot on your tolerance to what people do. Some people will report for things that I consider trivial because I'm not affected by it, do not care or simply do not deem it worthy of a report. I know some people who only play late at lane when they are a bit sleepy, thus making them less patient towards some people.

It's highly variable on the perception of the individual and I do not believe it has much to do with what type of person you play with. Some people might say stuff like "every game i have 3 ragers and have to mute half my team" and another might look at this and say "wow, we really don't play with the same kind of person" while in truth, they could be playing with the exact same person and one would mute them all while the other wouldn't be troubled with the behavior of those players.

I believe some of it is perception, but I think a bigger part is how a player's behavior is reflected back. I seldom have problems with my teammates, but some people I play with I know have very inflammatory mannerisms. Without straight out flaming, they just choose to include words like "retard" or "idiot" when communicating, or in other ways make their messages way more aggressive than they need to be. Unsurprisingly, I run into many more abusive people when playing with them than when solo queuing. The amusing part is that the worst people in the group are generally the most offensive ones, and a lot of the time my palm is firmly stuck to my face.

Silent treatment or muting treatment seems to work wonders here, I haven't had griefing people in my solo que games in like......ever I think. If you don't whine then they won't whine, makes for a lot better experience. I just sigh to myself but don't express it in game. It often can lead to them playing worse, starting to flame(which is annoying in its own) or in the worst case, griefing.

lol the report system is so abusive, the 4 limit doesnt work for me so i could just spam it on everyone. So does the russians i played with. I like the silent treatment but the judgement method is wrong

It's really interesting how many different positions there are on reporting.

Personally, I tend to report people who flame and rage on our teammates. I don't really see it as a question of thick skin. Even if they don't bother me, they might bother other people, and if I can get the ragers out of the pool then that's a few less games they might ruin for someone else. That's what the feature is for. I also obviously report courier feeders etc.

As far as non-standard things go, i do sometimes report abandons. Yes, it's true that people technically report themselves when they abandon, but the automatic punishment isn't automatically fair. I don't have a problem adding a report if they do it with total disregard for everyone else in the game, like giving first blood and then ragequitting without a word. I don't mind guys whose internet craps out or house catches fire or whatever, that kind of thing happens and they usually apologise.

Although I normally think it's ridiculous to report bad players, there are some things that do just frustrate me. Usually this is stuff to do with picks and lanes, especially people who completely ignore chat, never say a word pregame, wait until the entire rest of the team is arranged and then last pick the least appropriate hero possible, often drow/sniper/riki/pudge. At that point my finger is hovering over report for sheer ignorant arrogance, and if they have the gall to push someone else out of lane afterwards that's usually too much for me. Last pick random is infuriating as well.

I don't feel like that's excessive, but idk.

I have to say, I feel pretty much the same way. The amount of 'report x' when the guy might be out of his league or having a bad game is ridiculous. I'm vocal about defending such people usually and typically report the guy spamming that (after all I'd rather play with people who have the occasional bad game than the people who flame non-stop in chat).

The quitting is what it is, I never really care when people quit because if they do it often enough I don't have to bother with them, and honestly while it is annoying I just take it as a hint to move on to the next match.

Right now though it's too harsh, not being able to use chat wheel when reported is not good at all and I hope that is changed. I can see no custom text being allowed, but especially in anything below the highest levels it is hard to get your ideas across without being able to talk.

I like the direction, I like that they limited the reports, and I like the punishment. I just think that certain parts of that need to be reconsidered.

Do you seriously think Valve employs people 24 hours a day to review accounts and hand out LPQ? Do you have any idea how many reports get submitted? I think almost every single game at least one report is given, usually because the player is 'bad'.

It's entirely automated.

Also, I just played with a 4-stack. We lost and it was _all my fault_ (worst player ever, apparently). So they reported me for 'faggot noob'.

Yay mute!

Next game I got reported for 'no mia, gg, report purple'. Not being able to communicate kinda sucks.

Great system!

I'm gonna go play some other game now...

I agree that they shouldn't mute the chat wheel at least.

Anyway as for the reporting discussion - I only report for excessive flaming or just making the game "unfun".

I think it's really good to try to play games (any games) in a relaxed mindset (you eventually get used to it and you rage at less things, things become more fun, etc).

Besides that, I never really take wins or loses seriously in Dota because:

1. Since I'm playing mostly in pubs, so I just play mostly for fun (or course I try to win).

2. The most fun I've had in Dota was just being with reasonable and friendly team mates (mostly in WC3 Dota... mainly because at the time, most people didn't really know what to do and most people seemed to play more to have fun than win + it also helps there was no "MMR" to worry about in at least battle.net WC3).

In terms of reporting bad players - everyone has bad games in Dota. Some of the flaming is really ridiculous and a lot of the times uninformed (rage fest most of the time).

As for people doing bad because they're uninformed? Well inform them and try to help them out (maybe they had like 100 games in a row where everyone flamed them instead of telling them you should go this lane with <x> hero for example).

One way to make the community and experience overall better IMO is for people to rage less about everything. You have to accept that since you're playing a team game, public with randoms, that things like this will eventually happen. If people are really mad at team mates all the time, I wonder if people can ask for some sort of 1v1 mode (like mid only, or maybe you control 2-3 heroes at once). (Of course, in 1v1 settings, I wouldn't be surprised at the opponent going *"Really?" or "I totally out played you, I can't believe I lost" like all the time in SC2 ladder.)

*Someone actually said that to Artosis while he was streaming (on the NA ladder that is, since Korean ladder seemed to be down for him at the time). (Artosis blocked the opponent's natural and third with a pylon. Oh noes, that is totally never happens before and it's cheap and imbalanced and means the player doing it to you is worse than you!)

That's way I never really care too much about winning or losing in team games (I try to win of course, but it's silly to rage at things in pubs if things don't go your way). Instead of raging at someone for doing something wrong, just tell them politely what to do (most of the time, unless they're someone who rages in the first place, they'll listen).

He's in CM in both dota 1 and 2 (I don't think it's a bug that he's in), was added in 6.75 same time as timbersaw.

Only problem with advice is that if you type it, it makes it very ambiguous as to how it is said. The tone of the advice never seems to go through correctly.

Good example is a buddy of mine played tiny in a game. He started off going arcanes and blink, and then eventually went ags, AC. I pointed out to him the fact that his build was a bit on the schizophrenic side and he got really defensive about it. Despite me just trying to give good advice (wasting 2k gold on a blink for carry tiny) it came off as something else.

EDIT: Really weird that Skywrath is in CM... I have to assume it is a bug, I mean have there been any other heroes released in Dota 2 that went into CM right away?

Arcanes+Blink is transitioning into carry Tiny is fine for pubs.

The Arcanes+Blink don't give you lategame carry stats, but they give you solo-killing ability and ganking power. Essentially you treat it as an investment into farming (through both kills and through being able to use your spells to rapidly clear creeps) and suppressing the enemy's development enough for you to stay ahead. In a competitive game, there aren't enough solo-kill opportunities for this to be a worthwhile investment overall, but in pub games, Tiny can easily get enough solo kills and successful ganks for Arcanes+Blink to comfortably make the carry transition, despite the lack of combat stats.

Yeah, I'm always disappointed when even in professional games Tinys' don't go blink. But, the current meta is to see which team can bore the shit out of everyone first.

Arcanes+Blink Tiny > Carry is a different style than straight up carry tiny. Both are decent choices.

in solo q pub if you tiny mid you should go for arcane blink. if you safelane and play 1 position you should just go carry with a midas. honestly i dont see you losing in either case, its hard to lose with tiny in pubs cuz hes one of those heroes thats kinda useful all game long.
