IMO nearly every team needs at least 1 pair of mana boots so sometimes that is on the venge, but otherwise she can usually survive without. TBH basic boots are fine on her. Items like Urn and Medallion cost about the same as a boots upgrade but offer far more than treads (as well as helping solve personal mana issues), and if you have MORE farm than that a fast force staff or agh's is gamebreaking. If I'm crazy ahead early (somehow) I kinda like phase boots just to help position for the very short range of level 1 swap, but that problem solves itself with levels so phase are probably just terrible. | ||

It's not really the same, because having Phase Boots results in a large increase in your ganking effectiveness that pays for itself, and can be bought before the game moves out of laning if your development is good. The same cannot be said about getting level 11. | ||

Or crazy ahead early you say? you can consider BoT (with some very aggresive ganking line up) or just forcestaff/small items or even a midas. Of course you can go phase if you ganked successfully in early/had a few assists/kills on the lane; PT if you are doing some farming on VS for some reason, she can hit really hard with the right skillbuild or after you have gone through the ganking phase and you could use that small hp boost. | ||

I used to go Tranq on her but these days I just don't upgrade until later in the game. If you can get away with having a slot for just the belt I find that alright too but that's often rather challenging. I find she isn't actually as positionally dependent and she looks if you playing it defensively. The trick is when to shift into offense swaping | ||

The hero actually transitions well into certain DPS items lategame (Diffu is nice even if you're not a primary DPS point because it counters Sheepsticks) which is part of why Treads are nice. Normally though you just end up getting things like Ghost Scepter or casual Vit Booster to stay alive and throw more stuns/waves/keep your aura up. | ||

To the same logic about not getting mek - isn't getting DPS items not necessarily best for this hero, considering she, as you said, is the one that is sacrificing herself to initiate / start a fight / catch an enemy out of position? Why bother getting DPS items, and not just let someone else on your team get some more of the farm and stay more conservative with your items (Ghost / Force). As a whole, to me she is a hero that is great for initiating, obviously, but also equally good for buffing up your carries through minus armor and plus damage aura. | ||
