Against someone who knows what they're doing, they'll simply nuke you, trade hits with you and win.

Riki just doesn't do well in lane.

It would mostly have to be against melee mids, but I feel like he could dominate and get those fast levels and decent farm. Smoke is such a good skill, and Backstab allows you to get easy last hits while his Blink Strike is a semi-acceptable escape. Plus with his fast 6, he forces Sentries earlier than you'd want.
Probably a stupid idea, but I'm wondering if it is remotely viable. Takes the pressure off of him - he normally has to be played 1 position in pro games, after all, because obviously he doesn't jungle well and can't offlane - allowing him to focus more on ganking in a Nyx-style way than farming. Sure, it's very strong actually. PMS first with some pulled heals combined with his very high base armor of 6 and the dmg from Backstab makes him very potent. He's also a hero that is quite level dependent.
That doesn't help you at all versus spells though. Anyone with a bottle is going to be terror for you. Sure PL laned middle, but he also got shat on in that game.

How does anyone with a spell not do more damage than him? Are you gonna blink cloud them everytime you want to trade hits?

if you can farm up the radiance in a timely manner, do you go for it?

If you can get it under 18 minutes, sure.

I don't see why some people get their panties wet for radiance on BB. He doesn't need it to farm at all. The +60 damage can be gotten more effectively from other sources. And staying alive longer will mostly result in more quill sprays going off and probably more damage dealt totally anyway.

If you don't need the additional items to stay in a fight (or use radiance to get them right after since your farming speed will be magnificent) then you're going to do a lot of extra burn damage. The draw of radiance is that it burns everyone in addition to your quill spam since you'll be wanting a long fight anyway.

Riki mid is awful. He has no laning presence and gets out traded by everyone. Here is a better question: what hero doesn't shit on riki mid?

Not to mention, this argument is being made against a mid PL, who I don't consider a good mid-laner. Imagine him vs. a QoP, beastmaster....anything really.

I actually think Riki mid would work well, but it would have to be versus a melee hero like you said, Mag or Bm. The other thing u haven't talked about is that you would need a lineup with another hero that could come over and control mid when riki is 6. That means hell be prob playing a lv 4 vs a lv 6 with bottle mid, u can surely see how this would be very hard.
It could work but u would need a very strong draft, or a push lineup that seeks to push the tower when riki hits 6.

Beast master would shit all over riki mid, lol.

I was thinking about ways to build slardar, wouldn't shadowblade be a decent item on him? It gives attack speed and allows to initiate with his stun, maybe it could be a viable replacement for blink (I realize blink is harder to counter that a shadowblade, but it also doesn't give damage). Also if it's possible to stack the bonus speed from sprint and windwalk would give really nice speed to slardar for escape and chasing. So what do you think about going treads/shadowblade/armlet/bkb (maybe bkb before) to play a semi-carry slardar?

When in doubt, go shadowblade... You really can't go wrong with it in pubs, the item is super OP there. I think the item would still be decent if it had all the stats it has now, and the active only gave you the backstab damage and bonus MS without the invisibility. I hate the item.

I don't find shadowblade op in pubs, you know ages ago when the guy goes for it & you have dust ready. Without the invis it would sux really hard as it would not force the opponent to spend some gold on countering invis.
