There is never a good time to play meepo. Even if you play him perfectly (which is near impossible in itself), he's still only a "meh" hero. I have yet to see any progamers pick him and win (excluding some matches where they'd won 4v5 anyways. Also, if you could prove me wrong with a vod I'd be a happy man).
notail played him for fnatic in a very nice match. I don't remember which game it was though or I'd find the vod for you. Splitpush with furion/meepo.

That..was..beautiful. Never realized the amazing synergi between meepo and np :D Still tho, that requires incredible amounts of awareness and teamwork, and also some luck in the pick phase. I don't think you can play like that in pubs.
Can play that way or if solo queue, can try variations but it still works. Meepo is still a strong hero but can be countered pretty well. What makes Meepo hard to play is the lacking early damage (such low damage early in the beginning) and it requiring a pretty high level of multitasking/map awareness.
There are just many variables that must be taken into account, but a strong and fun hero.

It's not actually his solo kill combo that makes him annoying in high level games. It is his teamfight ability with spiked carapace. Walk into the fight, pop carapace, lol as their whole team gets stunned. In lower level games you're right though, his vendetta, and ability to combo people with dagon is really good. But at a certain level this just stops working, as it's quite easy to avoid.

Nyx initiation abilities are an issue on every level, because its a support that forces you out of your lane/ makes you drop tons of sentries without needing any items to do so. He has invis burst damage, an aoe stun and a spell that allows him to run into shit with less worries than any other support. He can take ur mana and hurt you with it if he feels like it, too.
If you are taking about the dagon mid Nyx, its still very annoying to play against because it forces you to play more passive and boring. In pubs with few wards you will have to towerhug anytime his ult is off cd and he is missing from the map. FUN!

i think the early beta antimage was still worse. it was so goddamn hard to shut him down without todays nerfs and there werent a lot of heroes that could do well against him
I don't know, the AM nerfs really aren't all that big, and there were a few heroes that are pretty good vs AM, NS and beastmaster immediately come to mind.
