Icefrog has gone to the well multiple times concerning Drow (ulti changes from insta killing creeps, agi gain and now global ranged +).
She right clicks, AOE silences and can shoot frost arrows. Yup. I was always confused about when people were excited when this hero was buffed. She really is undynamic and boring overall. The main thing with Drow is that the primary point of distinction for a good Drow player (positioning--she's a hero that heavily emphasizes good positioning in fights and punishes bad positioning--the fact that her ultimate turns off when someone is close to her emphasizes this fact even further than before) is not exciting for most people.
A Drow that has perfect positioning in every fight and can get away with the absolute minimum of survivability because of it is indeed impressive--but it's not EXCITING.

remember when we hated Morphling? I miss seeing the guy

I never hated morphling that bad. I mean, sure morph was an unkillable ranged carry that got monstrously huge lategame and could 1shot supports with just 1 item, but at least the hero took skill to play. PL and Naix are not the most skill-intensive carries. Morph made interesting games, PL/Naix etc not so much. I liked AM too

I absolutely hate the fact that icefrog buffed phantom lancer. I've loved that hero since he had a wooden lance but now I can't play him without getting half a dozen "cancer lancer"s thrown at me. Just make him the way he was before so that I can keep playing the guy. Same thing with n'aix. Been playing that guy since he used to have 3 passives, now I have to mute everyone to even pick the guy and everyone naturally assumes I'm jungling when I want to and should be in lane.

I'm ok with naix, although I'm also not particulary fond of him. But pl just is the most stupid hero ever and games with him are so terribly boring

I can't help but laugh. The current dominant carry is always the worse thing to ever happen to DotA, abut the previous ones were always fun, apparently. People's memory is interesting. It happened with Medusa, Drow, Alchemist, Spectre, Antimage, Morphling now PL.

Also agreeing with post below me. There's only a handful of carries I dislike. Sniper & Drow for example.

I like pl. There I said it. I liked him before 4.2 and I like him after.

I HOPE YOU BURN IN LOW PRIORITY!
(I just hate playing against him in CM)

I still love morphling and spectre, but I think they ruined them in the sequel. They just don't feel the same, visually and acoustically

PL isn't even the dominant carry in the comp scene. That by far goes to Gyro, Sylla, and Naix.

I don't know if Icefrog is agaisnt passives rather he has a history of redesigning heroes that are either outrageously overpowered or outright boring (soul keeper, pit lord, treant just to name a few).
So look at Sniper. Two of his abilities are passives, he's a ranged agi carry but does that Sniper a hero whom emphasizes on right clicks once farmed boring or wrong? No. He's been more or less the same hero for years now on a conceptual level (minor small buffs here and there) and he brings the ability to right click at a far range to the table which is fine, simple and fun for players that enjoys playing him. He can make use of his range to secure himself positionally in team fights and actually micro with this hero, which makes him fun and different.
Drow doesn't really do much else aside from covering a silence on heroes and right clicking them. You can "micro" with her with frost arrows to kite melees to death but does that make her interesting? No. I'm sure there are people that like Drow but is it because she offers something "unique" to the table that other heroes don't bring? Or is it because she's capable of doing absurd damage just by leveling? I'm going with the later.

I think a diference between PL and the previous recent "OP" carries is that he isn't even picked all that much. Morphling was bad in TI2 because he was picked almost every single game, AM was also banned or picked almost every game when he was considered anti-fun. PL is hardly ever banned and not picked reasonably often.
For me PL was always very annoying to play against, even when he sucked. It was the kind of hero that would be fun to see ocasionally, just because seeing diferent heroes are fun, but definatelly not one I would ever ask to see very often.
According to Dota-Academy, he was picked less often than Luna, Sylla, Gyro and Naix since the start of february. If you look at very recent games only, Luna and Sylla fall down a bit, but Gyro and Naix are still much more popular.

Man, fuck Lifestealer. I can get shut down hard when playing Naix in pubs (min 13 Midas), yet once the other team starts pushing I just split push and LOL RAGE TP in their face (provided they don't have something to bypass magic immunity but that a very rare thing in pubs). I can usually stall the game long enough to get back on track with the farm and out carry them. 10-15 mins of split pushing is all you need unless your team feeds kill after kill.
Playing Lifestealer is fun past 15 mins. Dodging Ravage or RP with Infest is just priceless.
Still, pubs in general don't know how to deal with constant split pushing. I've had teams trade t2 towers for t3 or even rax just because they were desperate.
