RoxKIS just lost two of its best players, they are not even nearly strong enough. 3D clan is the team to look forward too from the CIS scene as its basically 4/5 of old M5(?). Regardless I expect 3D clan to do very well.

RoxKis have been doing decently and with the addition of AA I'm sure they will improve vastly.

They lost 2 players though so ROxkis that was doing decently isn't the same as the RoxKis that AA will be joining. Sure they will improve but will they become better than they were before?

exactly, they were doing well with those two players(who were arguably also the best and the most experienced) and those players are now gone.

Do koreans already use steam? I remember tasteless casting some counterstrike over there a couple of years ago.

From comments around the webs it looks like the most likely answer is that the publisher in Korea, Nexon, is paying Gom for it. Would make sense, since it's not something there seems to be a natural demand for nor does it seem like Valves MO.

While im not doubting riot's hold over the market, it does sometimes occur to me that people think they are massive and overwhelming because thats what everyone thinks, and that mindset perpetuates itself. With that in mind, im really curious to see what the numbers are like for other games like dota in Korea.

It's not just hype, LoL is definitely way more played than dota in korea on several orders of magnitude.

Yeah, GOM did announce WoT tournament just recently. Nada will be playing that apparently.

I doubt GOM is investing in Dota 2, i just don't see it. But i hope they prove me wrong.

I just meant that its possible that many people over-estimate its dominance. Relying on statistics that riot gives is hardly reliable. I remember seeing how popular sc2 was in Korea by the number of people playing it in PC bangs.

Problem is LoL basically panders to the korean mindset. The style is very much asian in origin, and it has a good steady grind that doesn't really effect the skillcap (not pay to win). Good customisations aswell means that your account feels like your account, and a really robust advertising campaign.

LoL is much bigger than Sc2 in Korea, if Gom is going with Dota over LoL it's because they weren't able to get LoL. Lets get serious here, we all love Dota but outside of maybe China and Russia LoL will be the clear choice for organizations as far as viewers/money/popularity.

*edit* nevermind takes away from the actual discussion about Gom and Dota

Keep in mind no ladder on Dota 2 really hurts it vs LoL in the more competitive communities like Koreans who take laddering in games seriously.

Unless you have numbers that say that a larger number of koreans proportionally plays ranked compared to the rest of the world I don't think you can make such an assumption.

I don't think that is the reason why Dota hasn't or will not kick off in Korea as much as LoL.
