I haven't checked valve's blog in a while, just noticed this post.

"In other news, we recently saw game number 100,000,000 played. With over 3 million unique players every month, the Dota 2 community is blossoming into a beautiful flower."

That's really impressive, but a lot more beta keys/buy ins than I realized.

Feels like they have been releasing 2 keys per user each week for a while now. I can't even get rid of them any longer.

It's face when it's sitting down in that picture. Oh man.

The new necro set looks good too. I wish they'd work on some VS gear though (is her model even broken down?)

have they been able to confirm that DBR can still accurately get data even with the valve patch? Cause if they can't get fresh data unless people turn it on, the values are going to be rubbish in short order.

Correct. Although LoLKing does a lot of the same stuff for free. I never used the site, but I heard EloBuff promised a lot of features but never delivered either and then they abandoned it to go work on DotaBuff and never really talked with their subscribers.

The one thing I don't understand is the new debate, between whether it should be defaulted to private or public.

If the fear is people being harassed over it, wouldn't you want people who don't know about the button to be defaulted to freedom from harassment? I know then those people won't be contributing to the collection of data outside the game, but still, trying to prevent scaring away newer or more casual people seems like what Valve should aim for.

It is just a simple decision made by Valve that whether their product should be affected by a 3rd party website or not. Apparently match history was fine but this dbr seems to go too far i guess.

Team MMR on the other hand should be defo visible to all (i know the mode is not yet implemented.

So on a scale of 1 to WarZ, how much should I be against DotaBuff?

If they can't parse most of the data cos its private... then its a shame.. foresee its quick death. :S
Well.. hope not! I really enjoy using the match for self analysis on KDA and my better farming heroes.

I know I am shit on some heroes but to see them in actual stats? Priceless.

Hahahaha... I'll admit it, your scale actually made me laugh. WarZ is pretty spot on

As for me, I am not against dotabuff. I understand what they are trying to do and all the power to them. I sort of like having the stats from their site as a reference point (I personally do not gloat using it). I think although some may see what Valve did as a dick-move, I think it was a nice change. I like having the choice in having stats shown or not.

On a side note, I still think this should be discussed in the dotabuff thread but oh well.

I actually read some LoL thread about it saying how the last update was months ago and they stopped updating their tournament stats. I don't know if Dotabuff guys are seperate team or not but if they aren't then WarZ

you will still be able to see those stats if you enable them on dota2 client (the default is off, so you need to go and enable it)

Wich means, you can analyse all your data through dotabuff, just like up until now!

What you wont be able to do is check an accurate DBR, because it also uses data from other people

Rating is not the be all end all, but the plateaus of rating matter significantly. You will never see a professional sc2 player below GM, and you will never see a professional LoL player under 2k ELO. Whether it's +-100 from someone else does not determine who is better, but if it's +-300 they are definitely better.

In any case it doesn't matter because the DBR system specifically was not trying to spur more competitive matches, it was only there to show people where they were roughly at in terms of skill. A ranked ladder system would however be more competitive than what we have now.

Pubs are highly competitive and should be serious business at all times. Otherwise who knows what could happen, someone might even have fun.
