I think dagger is pretty decent - I'm not too big on him having a necro (gold accumulation problems) or mek (mana problems - probably should have the offlane hero get this item). Also, he has one of the best non-ultimate stuns (2.77 seconds...) that he can follow up with a spiked carapace, so he has the ability to be EXTREMELY aggressive with his initiations and not be punished. Worth noting that, as the game goes on, his ability to ult to initiate will become less viable as the game goes on as more sentry wards and gems become affordable.

Mek is incredibly awkward on him. Ideally you want it on someone who can properly position themselves in a teamfight, that's not exactly what Nyx excels at. Similar reasoning for why Mek on someone like SK/Tide is awkward.

But hes never really gonna have enough farm for flashy items if you have him in the 5th position, I just feel lost. Guess I'll just keep pooling all of my money towards a blink dagger next time I play him, as late as it might arrive. typically you don't want to play him as a 5 - usually as a 4 because mana boots are far too important on him / he shouldn't waste money on wards. Force staff is nice as well, as it gives him a little regen and helps his mana a bit - I just like the immediacy of blink.

My guess is that something among the lines of Urn/Forcestaff is almost never bad with things like Dagon/Blink/Necro being more situational.

It might still be okay as a 2nd position solo mid, but otherwise I would discourage it unless you are just out of control.

Dagon is most effective when it brings your burst damage to the point that you can solo-kill people. That's the situation in which you really want to buy one. As a support, you don't get the gold/levels to get to that point, even if you are doing very well. One item that has not been mentioned: Ghost Scepter. Obviously always a decent buy later on for supports, but especially good for Nyx because using Ghost Scepter with Spiked Carapace can ensure that enemies trigger it not with autoattacks, but with higher-damaging spells, making it more likely to reflect larger amounts of damage from key heroes. EDIT: Something I haven't actually explored before--if you have Ghost Scepter and Spiked Carapace both activated, does Spiked Carapace reflect the Ghost Form-amplified damage? I know it normally reflects the armor/magic resistance reduced amount of damage, but I don't know if it does the same for amplified amounts of damage.

Who gets it is up to your team but if noone else is going to be able to get it then a nyx having it is better than noone. A better item on him would be a urn but teams can't always be relied upon to get core items sometimes.
