Drow is a more reliable pubstomper in my opinion. At least after the changes on her ulti.

From my experience, Drow you need decent support in the early stage atleast. Lifestealer just comes out of the jungle after 20 minutes. Fun ends now. Talking about pubs ofc.

I REALLY HATE it when ppl think Lifestealer should go jungle...

Lifestealer jungle only works when people do nothing about it. If they actually come to kill you while you're stuck in a chokepoint, you're pretty fucked, and if you don't chokepoint jungle, you don't otherwise jungle effectively enough for it to be worthwhile.

I've been watching DOTA2 matches for a while now and i'm just now going to start playing it. I actually want to play support (4/5 spot), and will focus on that.

My question is: given the current meta, for somebody joining the game now, what 5-10 support heroes should I focus on learning first?

Hey man, i would suggest to you to not focus on one role but try everything. Really, just play every single hero that is out there.

edit: to answer your question, for beginner: venomancer, cristal maiden, lich, tide (if your carry is ranged).

4: Enchantress, Chen, Enigma, Tide (Disruptor, Kotl, Rhasta)
5: Jakiro, Venomancer, Rubick, Lina (Witchdoctor, Ancient Apparition, Shadow Demon, Rhasta, CM, Lich)

Those in brackets are less common atm but imo also cool choices depending on what you want to do.

Lich (just to get a feel for the game as he's an easy hero) meta wise - Jakiro (if your planning to play this hero practice hitting ice paths), Rubick, Shadow Demon, Wisp(little more challenging considering how squishy the hero is and the awareness needed to relocate gank and tether stun), Tidehunter, Keeper of the Light, Leshrac (read Jakiro except with split earth instead of icepath), Venomancer (please go gale first the slow is really good for low lvl kills), situationally Crystal Maiden (squishy and slow but after getting boots and a bracer she isn't that bad just dont get caught out or you'll pop )

Any objections are welcome! Just making a list from what I see in progames to what he wants. Always interesting to see what others say! :D

I don't suggest trying to learn Chen/Enchantress/Enigma straight away. Jungling supports and laning supports are completely different and require a different mindset.

given the current meta, lich is pretty bad
vs, sd, aa, rubick, jakiro, cm and venom
Vengeful, shadow demon and rubick are probably the hardest one to play. Two requires split decision making while rubick needs a good knowledge of cast animation and spells

I'm not sure I would advise picking Chen to someone that just started playing the game.

If you are starting out, it's ussually better to pick what you are more comfortable with than what's popular in the "meta". Specially since how the game is played at pubs, specially bad pubs, is completelly diferent from what you see in tournaments.

Heroes like Tide/Lion/Lich/Venomancer are pretty easy to play and almost always useful. The key part at first is learning the game, not heroes. That will come naturally with time.

Thanks for the imput.

I think i'll start with Lich/Veno/Lesh/Jak/CM because they are on the short list of heroes where I actually know what their abilities are lol. Going to throw in some Dazzle/Witchdoctor too just because I like their aesthetics.

Edit: Oh and ofc Earthshaker. First hero that stood out to me in DOTA.

No love for Disruptor ? or Omini .. ? two very good suports and no one write abouth them.
Disruptor is not that easy for new players .. because you need know his skills and timings very good .
But Omini IMO is perfect suport to learn playing suport heroes.

For Lesh, Jak and ES practice hitting split earths/ice paths/fissures so people don't rage at you in MM for missing too many

Omni is a completely different beast to most supports. He's really bad for a new player to start learning laning supports. In fact he's hardly even a lane support these days. He's been run more offlane than in a supporting duo/tri

There is no meta in pubs, to be quite honest. Unless you run intro a 5-man stack or something.

But yea can't go wrong with jakiro nowadays. Too stronk.

Edit: Are people still whining about drow ranger in pubs? Just wondering since i have yet to see people whine about zeus, and he's only 1% winrate under drow at 55.7% to her 56.7%

So I was checking out the new polycount sets from the store and spotted the new Naga Siren set (because fuck I like playing Siren a damn lot). I didn't really like how the set looks (holy horns batman) but I thought about buying the blades because they looked cool:
