Yes, and it isn't just tower aggro. It is also very useful at dropping Neutral/Roshan aggro when using summons to tank/jungle.

First off, his base agi is 15 +1.5 per level, which is somewhere between unbelievably bad and something far worse. The illusions that you make are not going to be doing much damage without a bit of help.
So, the supposed help: His agi-steal on attack passive. Now, I haven't played with the hero so I'm not too well informed on how this works, but I'm assuming that his illusions won't proc this when they attack right? I also assume that the illusions only gain whatever agi you had stolen BEFORE you make them? So now you need to hit your opponent, say, 5 times before the agi steal actually means anything, THEN make illusions, THEN have those melee-range illusions whack your opponents when you have no slow or reliable way to catch them. Plus, there isn't even the bonus of taking off dust, since your hero kinda automatically does that anyway. So the active part of manta doesn't seem that good to me. I'd just keep the yasha and turn the ultimate orb into a skadi.
I could definitely be wrong on the mechanics of his agi steal though.
Actually, I guess the plan is to steal agi, THEN pounce the enemy hero into being stuck, THEN make illusions? that actually seems decent... Hmmm. Maybe I'm just horribly wrong. manta also makes you run faster and hit things faster also it dodges stuff and dispells stuff

I just think that Slark doesn't benefit from the utility of the manta active ability the way other agi heroes often do. It feels like 900 gold down the drain since he can already self-purge on a very low cooldown and the illusions do very little without at least 1 more serious item (I think this is in general skadi, maybe diffusal/abyssal sometimes?).

I have a question : how fast mmr varies? I have around 60 games and I'm 11 2 in last 13 games. My strategy is random heroe, rush guide on dotafire. The level is veeery low so I would like to know how longs does it take to have more interesting matches.

with manta you don't have to spend 300 hp to dispel stuff, plus even without stealing stats illusions eat hits anyway it's probably better to get a bkb first anyway an early skadi is much worse than an early manta, really the only strength of skadi is that it's slot efficient

Is not the best item for sure (If i needed bkb then i'd skip it and go straight to bfly) but some hp buff from ultimate orb is nice and that illu can be lifesaver for some situations. And we can only 6 slots of items (that's why AB is a good item on him).

personally i kinda favor SnY to manta atm... the cost of going ultimate orb+recipe is wayyyyy too high and manta only scale on certain heroes while SNY give you sick move speed and dissamble later for hailbutt heaven
|
Just get S&Y and go for skadi afterwards. You get all the neat passives and no redundant actives :D
|
Ya SnY is good, you probably get almost the same hp buff from Sange compare to ultimate orb.
|
Wow, for the first time in ages I see sny as a serious recommendation for a hero. It doesn't seem that bad as it allows you to keep up with your prey. I'll still go mom basher for old times' sake
|
Go blink slark and pounce on unsuspecting storms.
|
sny isn't even that bad of an item it's been buffed a million times
|
sny seems like it makes a lot of sense on slark, I tried it out in practice when slark came out and it felt like the best choice among the options. Unlike many heroes, slark gets a lot of use out of both yasha and sange, so the build up for him is excellent, as well as the reduced cost making it even better.
edit- does maim stack with OoV?
|
Maim and OoV should be completely unrealated, maim isn't and orb effect anymore
|
I would go point booster, treads/phase, bracer, yasha, orb of venom into drums, skadi, manta. I've never played slark though. I'm not sure if he has mana problems but bottle instead of orb of venom would fix that.

For people with the test patch - is the halloween map gone?

If you get bottle on slark you waste the HP regen part, the bigger one. As for mana, your abilities are so cheap one guy with arcanes on the team and a magic stick should be enough most of the time.
|
there isnt really a correct way to play slark tbh... the hero is too shit to put into competitive level so you have to build him differently base on the level that you play. I would imagine a BKB rush on slark in the highest level of play to dealt the maximum dmg just like BH or sven or even PA.

S&Y is good though. I just wouldn't feel the need to disassemble it on Slark. Just keep it and make Bfly.

Just keep it and make Bfly. i was talking about manta in general for every hero. The price increase this patch make me doubt it effectiveness on half of the heroes that i normally get it on. mean while SnY price buff is incredibly underrated: the boots ms nerf also an indirect buff into SnY 15%ms.
edit: sometime on heroes like AM/naga, i will get the yasha and delay the manta for quite sometime to get items that give me better benefit.... hell i would get a fucking lorthar over completing manta.
