I have watched almost every interview I available about Diablo 3 trying to pass the time and in at least one of the more recent ones they directly state that they are reserving some of the tougher monster abilities for Nightmare, Inferno and Hell. This is why I don't think anyone will be able to speedrun a hardcore inferno in the first few weeks - they'll be hitting monsters on Inferno with new abilities they've never seen before and not knowing how to deal with them. I'm not sure which interview it was stated (perhaps the Blizzconn one discussing inferno mode? One of the newer interviews discussing difficulty?)
Hardcore will be very tough with online only. I can't count the numbers I died because of lag/dc in the beta. I think alot of "hardcore only" people will run into their doom. I would play through normal to see the hard parts.

a big part of the lag/dc was no doubt due to poor game design, and b.net 1.0 etc etc. While these kinds of HC deaths will still happen, I dont know if I remember more than 1-2 times when b.net has lagged for me in SC2. Ofc if the lag comes from my computer or my shared internet, thats another matter

Yeh, there's always going to be some slight chance of internet issues, no matter how good your connection usually is. But of course that's a risk a hardcore player should be willing to take. "But I died due to lag!" won't help them, which doesn't mean we aren't going to hear this all the time from hardcore players after release :D Of course these deaths suck, but you mustn't allow the slightest possibility of reviving a dead hardcore character. If Blizzard would do that, hardcore would be going down the drain.
Anyways, after watching these fantastic demonstration videos (thanks a lot @OP and the person doing the videos) I just get that much more exciting.
Also finishing Inferno with a hardcore character has to be one of the biggest challenges ever and the race of doing it first will be glorious :D One Elite/Champion group with unfortunately strong affixes and BAM!
Doesn't matter how good you are at dodging attacks and separating out monsters to fight 1 on 1, if you get teleported into the middle of the pack, rooted and torn apart in a second :D
"Players will have the ability to create a character in Hardcore mode after they have completed normal difficulty in Softcore mode. This was confirmed at Blizzcon 2011 but at that stage it was still not set in stone. [1]" http://www.diablowiki.net/Hardcore
So yeah... I'm not giving false info, It's just outdated info (they changed it like 1,5 months ago)
The lava and the wall affixes look tough. Especially considering on hell / inferno they'll have at least 2-3 more affixes. This game is going to be so sweet.... May 15th can't come sooner!~!!!!!!!

Was talking to a friend of mine, trying to settle some of his worries. It feels nice that I can confidently promise him he will die a lot in the later difficulties.
I just can't imagine people complaining about difficulty... I think their Blizzcon 2011 powerpoint said it just fine:
right at the start. It's the exact same thing as Act 1 normal beginning in D2.
D3's act 1 start was harder than D2's act 1 start (imo). The Den of the Fallen was harder than any of the optional caves in the first 2-3 zones, I thought.
Lava + teleport = burn in hell. I wonder what other affixes they're gonna put in. I hope we don't see lightning enchanted. That affix was seriously broken.

I think Blizzard said inferno monsters can have FOUR affixes!!
A nightmarish, jailer, waller, and teleport champion would be ridiculous.
Mind you, we have not even seen the HARD to deal with affixes yet... Imagine waller, extra strong, lightning enchanted, fire enchanted... I'd shit my pants.
That's why Teleport/Leap etc seems pretty oblig
I thought teleport had like, a 30 second cooldown or something. It's not gonna be something you could spam like in D2, right?

Lava is only broken because it seems to stack and you have no way of knowing. Though it seems like one of those things that with enough resists(remember we have very little resists at this level) won't be that dangerous. Think of them like Gloams that were absolutely horrifying if you had little to no resists yet with max lightning resists and some lightning absorb they became entirely manageable. Monks with their hacks of being able to stack one resistance and applying to the rest are going to be nuts. That passive is going to be absolute gold. GOLD JERRY!

...which I don't have a problem with at all <3

Runed the word on the streets is you can either teleport as many times in 2 seconds(~4 times) or you can continually teleport till you run out of Arcane Power. Either way it should be good to get you out of the "oh shit" situations but, not necessarily chain teleporting across an entire dungeon to the exit.

Tell me about it. No charged bolt spamming god damn mobs. I never want to see that again :þ. Imagine that + waller. Molten seems to be semi the same thing but easier to handle.
