I am happy to see root getting sponsors after all this time, however there player line up I have to agree with IdrA on that they were good at the start of starcraft II but they will fall quickly as unique builds and abusive techniques can only get you so far. TLDR: This is awesome for ROOT, these are great companies, but it leaves me with two questions - why is this different from other sponsorships so that it works with ROOT's "by our own ideals" thing, and will ROOT be a full proteam with salaries or are they still working towards that goal?
Huge ROOT fan here, so I'm really glad they got sponsored like this! On the face of it, it seems like a really great thing; after FXOpen, I think these companies are up there with TLAF as the most involved in SC2 ESPORTS. Jtv has pulled out all the stops for SC2 streamers, as well as sponsoring tournaments; IGN is hosting a proleague; and PokerStars has been in it for the long hall as sponsor of both TSL2 and TSL3. This seems like really great news.
That said, it does make me a bit curious. CatZ always said that ROOT was looking for alternatives to the traditional team-sponsor model, so that they could play and live by their own ideals. I know that they wouldn't go back on those ideals, so I wonder what makes these sponsorships different from other sponsorship contracts - it could be that, instead of directly sponsoring the whole team like TLAF does with Liquid, where the sponsor agrees to financially back the team, these companies are doing something closer to buying advertising from ROOT (backs of shirts, etc) - something closer to how I imagine EG's sponsorship agreements work.
If that's the case, this may not be a permanent solution for ROOT's financial questions - it would definitely help them out with going to tournaments and maybe the rent on the team house, but they might not be able to pay player salaries or whatever. We probably won't get more information out of anyone, since it's financial, but I am pretty curious about this.

So the company that is forming a $150,000 league is sponsoring one of the teams that would compete? And, in the case of NASL, one of the players is on the league's payroll? Surely there are no other professional sports leagues that would allow this type of thing.

This delay is easy to explain. The morning of the day i wanted to set up the sponsor images, i was working in the garden which resulted in an accident. I needed to go to the hospital and stay there for nearly a week. I'm back since today and currently working on the new images.
So please don't speculate about this you don't know about. Sometimes its just as simple as a broken admin

And he's in good relations with admins over at JTV, same goes for Catz, and IGN is expanding into E-Sports. Glad to hear your're OK! was not really speculating, but understand such an announcement made on April 1st let people with doubts, l;ike I said, i wa shoping it WAS NOT a prank, since sponsorship is what clan managers worship almost more than victory, because without sponsors, traveling etc is expensive, and to win... guess what you need to travel, Grats to ROOT Gaming and BIG thanks for companies getting involved in the scene on behalf of All gamers, and Managers.

I'm not saying I like Team Liquid's site much either. I can understand why Team Liquid doesn't change though since being a major community site if they change a lot of people are going to find problems with the new site.
ROOT however, being a lesser known community site, has the ability to change their design to something more professional to represent their brand. It lacks stylistically in comparison to their logo and is very image heavy where it doesn't need to be at all. The design is very basic and is something that someone in their first year of web design could produce.
It's a suggestion, they can take it or leave it as they please. ^^; I'd be absolutely willing to provide examples if they wanted, too, to prove my point.

Look, everyone needs to know that I am NOT affiliated with ROOT Gaming whatsoever. The whole ROOTBeer thing was started one evening in the chat room on Destiny's stream. About 36 hours later, stuck at home with strep throat and nothing to do, I decided to make an Ap-ril F-oolz post for TL. I've been on here awhile and I don't really post a lot, so I wanted to make sure I put forth a good effort. I spent more time on the "press release" than the wallpaper (obviously) and added the little note on the bottom of the wallpaper so everyone would know it was an Ap-ril F-oolz gag. I posted and sat back. Most everyone had a laugh, and I was pleased with how everything turned out.
Then I see pics on @sc2rootgaming of the new t-shirts and holy balls they have SPONSORS!!! Now here is where I truly facepalm since all I wanted were a few lulz, and now in the back of my mind I'm thinking 'No one will believe this thanks to my poorly timed joke'. The irony of the teams lack of sponsorship was obviously lost on me, and I guess I'm not as big a fan of them as I think since this didn't come to mind while making the post.
I am beyond ecstatic for the ROOT Gaming Team and their new sponsors!! I am a HUGE fan of them, and I wish them all the best this weekend at MLG and in the future. I will be watching (if the stream ever comes up again) and I WILL be knocking back some frosty root beers!! I still think A&W Root Beer would make a baller sponsor, IMO.

I saw this comming the day they put "Destiny" on their roster. Destiny isn't the greatest SC2 player, and is probably the weakest (skill wise) of all ROOT players... But whenever his stream is up, there are at least 2k people tuning in. Sponsors love to see that... If I were to advertise with a progaming team, it would be ROOT as well.

More like 4k . I tune into his stream quite often just to hear them talk. It's hilarious at times. Usually there are 4k people tuned in. I think he hit 7k when he was doing his queen tactics. Destiny can bring in the masses quite easily. Catz gets a pretty damn good amount of people too. So do Minigun and Drewbie. Hell, they all get a lot of stream viewers .

Destiny is fairly skilled and he is grown into a great player. People tend underestimate him, he is pretty creative player with a good macro
