Q. Congratulations on your victory. How are you feeling? A. I'm happy that I won for the second time, and I will keep trying to win for the third, fourth and even eighth time.
Q. You kept your promise you made on media day that you would win 4:1. A. I played comfortably. I was able to keep my own pace.
Q. What was the purpose of the nexus ceremony in the second set? A. I wanted to intimidate the opponent and follow up from the zealot dance in the first set.
Q. With the victory today, you are now the number one in the prize ranking as well. How much more money do you want? A. I'm setting my goal to 300,000,000 Won. If I participate in other tournaments like TSL, I should be able to surpass this goal easily.
Q. Did you expect ST_July's drop in the third set? A. I didn't expect it at all. I was expecting him to come from the front, and I was very shocked to see him drop at my main.
Q. What did you think after losing the third set? A. I thought 'I just took a punch'. I was already preparing for the dark templar build in the next set, so it didn't bother me that much.
Q. You didn't do a lot of damage with the dark templars in the fourth set. A. I thought it was alright since I kept all of them alive and even killed a queen. The build was to lead the game to my flow. I even ordered my practice partners to start with making spore crawlers during my practice games.
Q. How are you going to spend the prize money? A. I'm going to save up and buy a house. I bought my mom a new car with last tournament's prize.
Q. Are you planning on going on a diet? A. Since being a progamer is very stressful, I relieve that stress by eating. I'm still exercising a lot, so I think I will lose some weight in the near future.
Q. You didn't use any colossi today. A. I was confident in my gateway unit control. I didn't purposely neglect them, but I just played according to every situation. ST_July didn't force me to make collosi, so I played based on gateway compositions.
Q. With the second title, you have become the best. Who do you think can catch up to your career? A. I don't think anyone can catch up to me. I don't know about second places, but I will always keep winning. As per each race, I think MarineKingPrime and IMMvp are the 2 best terrans, but IMMvp was knocked down to Code A recently, so it narrowed down to just MarineKingPrime. I think IMNesTea, ST_July and oGsZenio are the best zergs, and SlayerS_Alicia and sanZenith are the best protosses. I'm also expecting a lot from other oGs protosses.
Q. What are your goals in the World Championship and GSTL? A. I want to win in GSTL and that's pretty obvious. However, I want to put winning aside for now and work well with my teammates first. For the World Championship, Korea will be battling against other foreigners, and I don't think I even need to play, so I'm not putting too much focus in that.
Q. Are you planning ahead for the group selection for next season? A. Many players are tackling me. MarineKingPrime and TSL_Rain want to get revenge on me, so I'm thinking of picking them. I want to ask everyone if they want to play against me and pick them if they wish to. I think oGsTheWind has been in Code S for too long. I want to knock him out so he can focus on coaching. (T/N: LOLLLLLL)
Q. What nickname do you like the best? A. I like 'Protoss President'. I heard that foreigners call me 'boss'. I want to be called "Protoss Bonjwa' in the future.
Q. Any last comments? A. oGs is now sponsored by ESH. I want to thank the related personnels. I also want to thank Manager Hwang Kyu-Hoon, Coach oGsTheWind and oGsGon for allowing me to focus on gaming. I will try my best to win in GSTL as well. I also want to thank my mom for always cheering and texting me words of courage.

wow, he had these builds meticulously planned out, even to the point where if he was completely hard countered he would still do what he wanted to do :o
|
lol isnt it kinda rude to ask him if hes planning on going on a diet?
|
Lol on.. calling out his own coach.
|
That was fast! Thanks
|
For anyone who didn't know, oGsTheWind said on HuKs stream that if he got knocked out of this GSL he would retire
edit:
Clarification: knocked into Code A in the up and down

Q. Are you planning on going on a diet? A. Since being a progamer is very stressful, I relieve that stress by eating. I'm still exercising a lot, so I think I will lose some weight in the near future.

Haha, wtf is this? I thought Koreans were supposed to be polite. Is MC fat? What's considered impolite in one culture may not necessarily be the same in another. Not that I know much about SK, just speculating.
Anyway awesome interview. MC really is sure of himself. That makes me feel a lot better after reading that thread about SC2 being too volatile, hopefully it's starting to stabilise and we may even soon see the emergence of our first bonjwa.

Hilarious interview:
#1) are you going to diet #2) the wind needs more free time to be an awesome coach #3) MC doesn't even think he'll be needed at the WC's xD
I'm always happy to see him win, since he always provides entertainment whatever he's doing xD

It will happen sadly .
Nice interview, a bit rude with that diet question tho. He's not fat come on, it's not like every progamer has to be as skinny as byun, hyperdub or ensnare.
|
Lol, hilarious interview. "Since being a progamer is very stressful, I relieve that stress by eating."
Hope he can achieve his goal of first bonjwa Scene is so volatile right now though, might not be possible.

I really lol'd at the diet comment. July is much heavier!
"So july, you're in the GSL finals. How do you feel?!"
July: "HUNGRY."
(I was rooting for july to win. he's just so much cooler a person.)
|
LOL "are you going on a diet" hahahahahahaha
Only one more gsl then he's the first bonjwa.. I can see it.
|
Awesome interview. I think you just gotta love MC for being the baller he is.
Nice transition from "suicide toss" to "president toss" anyways
I think somewhere in the intro to the finals he even stated he want's to become/ be called "Emperor" or "King"
|
LOL calling out his own coach, oh MC whattaguy
|
Ill clarify the diet comment.
Korean people tend to talk about your weight almost like it's making small talk. When seeing family for the first time in a long time the first thing they say to you will likely be something about your weight..."Oh, you've lost weight!" or "oh, you've put on some weight". It's not meant to be rude or anything, just how the culture is.
|
MC played so perfectly he deserved to win, thanks for interview translations, was hilarious!
|
Amazing interview.
I love how MC is cocky but at the same time isn't afraid to give credit to players where credit needs to be given. He realizes that there are other amazing players that might beat him in the future, doesn't proclaim himself to be the best and then cry about balance.
That said please don't pick MKP in group stages!!11
|
I love his style. Cocky but has every right to back up his cockiness with hard work and awesomeness.
Also, oGsthewind just refuses to budge from Code S. I reckon he stays in Code S forever and never get past round of 8. I don't even understand why he is playing, and to be honest he seems to be such a freakin' baller: "Well, I'm not supposed to be playing this game myself... but heck I'll just be in Code S anyways. Why? Cuz I can"
|

Great interview, did not know weight was this important in Korean culture

This guy is allways acting xd. I dont like this kind of people =\

Carry Wood Leaguer to victory in Monobattle. Watch MC bring Protoss another victory. Translate the words of your Great Hero.
All in a day's work, like a 'Toss.

Nice transition by SanZenith, going from "shit" to being mentioned by MC as one of the best protoss players aside from himself.

Congrats to MC. He is truly a great player.
Thanks for the translation, Canucks. Good work as always. And keep them coming

I think the diet question is saved for JulyZerg when he win. But maybe the interviewer thought, ah what the heck MC is suitable for the question too and just use it.

I find it damn cool that he bought his mom a car with his last prize money.

He is going to build a palace with the prize money.
Protoss Autocraft FTW!

sanZenith really that good?
Didn't actually manage to watch any of the GSL matches apart from the final, but I remember him being labeled one of the worst players in GSL together with BitByBit... and now this
also is MC trying to allkill through the GSTL all by himself? :D
|
On March 19 2011 19:51 DongWang wrote: Only one more gsl then he's the first bonjwa.. I can see it.
I think people doesn't quite understand what a bonjwa is...A Bonjwa is someone who shows TOTAL DOMINANCE through a long time.
MC won season 3, and lost on GSL january, and now won again, this qualify him as a one of the best players, if not the best, but not enough from bonjwa.
Another thing about it is, look at BW, there wasn't a major tournament every month, so if someone is in a momentum it usually ends before the next tournament. This way you can really know who is just very strong and who is a true bonjwa.

Q. What was the purpose of the nexus ceremony in the second set? A. I wanted to intimidate the opponent and follow up from the zealot dance in the first set. I like that answer. Im not a big fan of BM, but I am a big fan of mind games. I know if i saw that happen to me i might be a bit more pissed off on the next set. Who knows, that might give a slight edge.

Lol @ diet question.
It's funny how something like that probably sounds A LOT different in korean than it does in english. I english that's such a rude question really... Like, "hey, you're kind of fat?"

Haha...I may not be a huge MC fan, but I have to admit this interview is awesome.
What are you going to do with the money? Other Progamers: "give it to my parents I guess" MC: "Imma buy a house"
How are you going to prepare for the World Championship? Other Progamers: "I will train hard and do my best" MC: "Korea vs foreigners lol, I won't even need to play"
Who do you want to face in the next GSL? Other Progamers: "I will pick players who I can display my strengths against" MC: "I wanna knock my coach out of Code S"
Also, in Korea it's actually pretty common to ask people questions like "are you going on a diet". People often comment on each other's appearance in ways that are brutally honest and would be considered rude in a lot of countries, but it's just considered normal and not something to take offense at.
|
Damn, MC is gonna be loaded with prize money after this, no wonder he's thinking about buying a house. What a baller.
Thanks for translating!
|
Stating manZenith and Alicia as best protosses is pretty interesting, though to be fair they both did really well this season, alot better than more well known protosses.
|
I don't think anyone can catch up to me. I don't know about second places, but I will always keep winning. No Jinro? Hmm, I guess he was just off guard with the mech play.
Zenio? Hmm, wouldn't quite agree with that, but he is pretty good and I guess there aren't many other Zergs.
Alicia FTW :D San FTW :D
No FD/Genius but they haven't been doing so well recently I guess.
Lol at the diet one. That does make sense, however. Eating is very helpful.
Smart of him to buy a house too. Save up as much money and live off the interest and/or just buy a house all in one go and not have to worry about taxes and stuff xD
It's nice for the interviewer to ask him what name he wants, although that sort of defeats the purpose of having a fan-nickname.
Lol he wants TheWind to lose so he can coach? You could also say that because he is in Code S, he doesn't have to work as hard (as opposed to being in Code A and trying to work up) and therefore has more time to coach. He is the coach of his team though, so he's probably just joking/trolling xD
|
To us MC looks fine, but in Korea many people are much skinnier than us....NO offense

+ Show Spoiler +Now if only we could stop the Forcefield imba crying and appreciate the skill required to use them as MC did. He is fairly chubby by NA standards but I consider him morbidly obese, people need to keep up their shape. Are there signs for first bonjwa?

July's been asked about whether he's dieting several times during his BW career. :p
Interesting that MC thinks San's among the top Protoss.
|
He's not a bonjwa,at least not yet. I still feel that technically,MvP i better as a player. Congrats MC!

|
Winning 2 seasons doesn't make you a bonjwa. If he keeps this up for a year or 2, then I could call him a bonjwa.
There's a reason why there's only 4-6 bonjwas in over a decade of bw history. You don't just win for 2 months and become a bonjwa. You have to hold that dominance for a very long time.
|
It was sooo rediculus to se MC's level of controll! And it looks like he just calmly took each match in stride straight to the win.
I thought is was interesting that he said that July " didn't force [him] to make collosi." So not only did he win, but pointed out that July didn't challenge him to change his builds. Also, this shows how comfortable he really is, being ready to adapt tho what the other player is doing.
|
|
what a baller though.. congrats to MC.
XD

~~> I'm a firebat!! :D

MC is kind of awesome. Makes me want to switch back to Protoss.
|
MC makes Toss look so OP... but no other Toss demonstrates that level of dominance so you have to give him props.
I'm curious to see if other players start using mass, mass sentry (as opposed to just mass sentry) in games and if that affects game balance.

lol, he always looked kinda beefy to me, in hte good way all he needs to do is exercise and keep eating and he'll keep slaying nerds :D I'm really glad he won, people may hate him for using to much gateway tech but he did use it wisely and strategically imo

Im a zerg player so it was obviously disappointing to see July lose (esp. in a manner where he was completely outclassed). But I must say, MCs FF were pretty sick. They BARELY overlapped with each other which meant that he used them to their (almost) maximum efficiency. Thats something that I dont see often but something that I notice Tyler likes to stress. Wonder what he thought of the games, guess we'll find out on tuesday.
|
HAHA I love how he is going to put two finalists in his group because they want revenge.
|
BossToss didn't use a single High Templar or Colossus in any of those games.
It was kind of anticlimactic to watch him just roll over July with the same basic WG pushes every game (except the one he lost), but.. that's just how MC does it!
|
I don't see how Jinro can't be called one of the best Terran in the world considering he rolled MC in season 4 with inspiring mech play. Maybe MC has a counter now tho.

He definitely is one of the best Terrans in the world.
Thing is, he's probably more on the same level as Nada rather than MVP/MKP.

Personally hte highlight of the interview was his rating of SanZenith as one of hte best tosses. That's just too amusing. Especially after Tastosis' trolling in the first few gsls :D

LOL his responses are amazing

MC acknowledged sanzenith as one of the best protosses!!!!!! LOL yeah way to go
|
Love the guy, he's cocky but doesn't come off as whiny on the flipside. Lives in oGs with our Liquid boys, and is learning English. What's not to like?
|
Awesome, thank you for the interview. Awesome job by oGsMC, but I feel he's coming off way too cocky (yeah, I know why he was called Suicide Toss, but still...). And no recognition to Jinro?
|
Hhaha, if they asked MC if he was going on a diet, you think if July won they'd ask him if he was getting lip?
|
MC is so sick. I love his confidence . Truly a great and superior player.
|
He relieves his stress by eating. Hahaha.
|
This was an awesome interview, MC wants to kick out his own coach rofl.
|
So, by winning two GSLs now, is MC officially bi-winning?
|
After watching the finals and reading some of MC's interviews he has officially become my favorite player. He is soooooo solid at everything and he makes it all quite entertaining at the same time. Gotta love the cockiness and his general attitude towards starcraft lol
|
Man I love MC's confidence and attitude toward the game, I don't think anyone can stop MC right now especially not a terran or a zerg but a PvP I could see him losing. Congratulations on winning GSL again and dominating in the finals for a second time.
|
i dont like mc not couse of his playstyle its becouse hes so fkn conceited and arrogant i mean ok he did won twice but this game is out for 1 year or so and who knows who will be top in 2 years so i wouldnt say no one can catch up to my record-.-

Which is why I absolutely love this guy.

Haha. How funny would it have been if he just stared, dropped the mic on the floor and walked away from the interview.

very nice view! Yo, he has some respect for San and Alicia, nice! "I think oGsTheWind has been in Code S for too long. I want to knock him out so he can focus on coaching." LOOOOL this kid is awesome

MC brings so much more personality to the SC2 scene, really standing out as a charactar which is what we really need ! Amazing input to the whole scene :D

Truth be told I would prefer not to have a dominant player on the scene, yet.

you know i saw his other interview, comparing to Boxer, this guy is too cocky...he needs to be little modest buddy !

To give an analogy to your argument, Kobe Bryant should not be arrogant even though he is the best player in the world, because we won't know if he will be #1 in 2 years? I don't know dude, seems like you are giving him too much crap Let him enjoy his success, he earned it in every way possible...

Korean people tend to talk about your weight almost like it's making small talk. It's not meant to be rude or anything, just how the culture is.
People are overestimating the cultural difference. Yes, Koreans are more frank about weight and dieting. Yes, (like Americans?) Koreans joke about weight and tell family/friends that they've gained/lost weight, esp if they haven't met in some time. However, that's not the same as asking if he (a stranger) is going to diet in front of hundreds of people. It's as rude in Korean culture as it would be in others; I know because I'm Korean. Only way I see this question making sense is if a lot of people were talking about his weight/dieting on playXP or if he mentioned it in another interview somewhere.

in asian cultures, for some reason it's okay to call someone fat. It's like calling someone out on a nasty smoking habit in the US. It's seen as a health reminder or warning, like "you know that isn't healthy for you right?" Here in America we defend the fatties though XD

From what I gather many koreans (and other asian societies) don't find it rude to be very direct and straight forward. The question about him being fat is a perfect example. I'm pretty sure he wasn't offended. At least there's somewhere where people aren't overly worried about being politically correct. Great interview btw, funny that he wants to knock his coach out. I'm actually wondering if we will soon have our first Sc2 bonjwa.

MC gives the best interviews. The first few I read I was getting too much of an arrogant vibe out of him, but I'm increasingly suspicious that he just loves playing to the crowd

@gostunv
I think he means like, after he retires from progaming. Which might not be for a long long time. Perhaps people will start to play into their 40s heheh. But they'll make a lot of money if they keep most of it in the bank with interest (they probably really don't need to use much for anything, they already live in a team house and are fed).

I love how people are making all these speculative comments about how Koreans are way more open about talking about their weight and shit. The fact of the matter is the neitzien starcraft communities have a lot of passive aggressive insular nerds just like we do. Really if someone like, "Sheth" (lol sorry bro) won a lot of tourneys in North America there would probably be a good amount of mildly derogatory comments on western forums about how he should probably watch his weight more or w/e. It has absolutely nothing to do with the game it's just how people are. If anything Koreans are less tolerant of people who have weight issue than western communities. PlayXP is just playing on its audience. It's fine to say it's not a big deal(because it in no way is) but don't pretend an apple isn't an apple. The question was kind of a dick move.

I was pulling for July, but props for MC being respectful in the interview, admitting the drop caught him off guard and listing July as one of the best.

Perhaps I'm having trouble understanding what the requirements for a Bonjwa are, besides dominating for a long time. I'm confused because I'm looking at SAviOr's liquipedia entry (never followed BW unfortunately) and under his accomplishment's list, it seems like his largest period of dominance was in 2006 - but even then, he didn't win everything - he got three golds and a silver. In other words, are you allowed to get 2nd, or even 3rd at some point in a year, and as long as you win most everything else in that timeframe, could you still be called a Bonjwa?
|
I dislike MC's attitude. I respect his skill, but his cockiness will eventually be his curse. He might seem invincible now, but FruitDealer, Nestea, MarineKing & Mvp seemed invincible too at some point.. even a nerf or buff to the race could make a difference (who can be sure the game is 100% balanced right now..)

Give up now, there's honestly no rhyme or reason to it. It's just a popularity contest. Example, going by win-loss Boxer best year 2001, netted 73.68%, compared to Jaedong's entire career straight up netting 68.34%. Yet boxer is always listed as bonjwa and Jaedong isn't.
Nerd rage passing.
Given the quicker tournament turnover in SC2 compared to SC1, I think it is going to be harder to declare a bonjwa at all. I mean could even MC win 10 of 12 of these tournaments in a year? Whereas OSL MSL together only produce 6 a year.

Boxer were imho called Bonjwa years after his great accomplishments. The first Bonjwa who was called was Savior. If I remember right, he didn't lose a single Best of Series for about 10 month. Also he dominated the Proleague in this time. It was simply rare to see him lose. Nada, oov and Boxer are belated called Bonjwa (imho, I'm not 100% sure about that).
Jaedong also was very close to be called Bonjwa but Flash disrupted it all. : /
@Holyarrow: Note, that BW Tourneys like MSL/OSL goes for like 6 month instead of just one.
|
Q. With the victory today, you are now the number one in the prize ranking as well. How much more money do you want? A. I'm setting my goal to 300,000,000 Won. If I participate in other tournaments like TSL, I should be able to surpass this goal easily.
