Looks like GSL is hitting the cables in Korea. They will start broadcasting GSL on AniBox starting February 22nd, and they are set to broadcast many other Starcraft 2 leagues in addition to the GSL, although they are only covering the Code S in March.
Personally, I have no idea they even had such channel, but this is looking a lot like the beginning of SC1 scene with Tooniverse and all (which was also a cartoon/animation channel). Hopefully we will see this turn in to something big like the BW leagues.
Wow this a good step forward
I heard about this from some guys on th Korean server. It's true.
It's a step forward at least. I am really interested in how many watch the GSL games. Is there some data for that?
Also, since you seem to know a bit about this, could you put in some more information? What's AniBox? How many people will be able to watch it? How many are likely to watch it?
This is great, the best way for SC2 and the GSL to gain wider acceptance is to get it on TV it is much easier for people to watch and dose not require any special software. Hope to see the Team League get on there next
awesome, SC2 is exploding in Asia finally aswell now SC2 is on television and also will be sold in China :D
Awesome news, baby steps, baby steps. Thanks for the update
good news, let's see how it turns out
oher sc2 leagues ? i'm waiting for the day koreans start watching western starcraft tournaments like mlg or iem from their couches, that will be a happy day for esports and sc lovers worldwide
Good good, the plan is working.. mwahahahaha
Interesting. I heard that parts of GSL were already being broadcast on an obscure Korean channel at an obscure time, though hopefully this new broadcast will be a bit more convenient and well-known.
Hopefully, MBC Game and OGN might consider picking up SC2 once all the KeSPA vs Blizzard legal drama is done. If not, hopefully another high profile channel will.
One small step for AniBox, one huge leap for starcraft 2.
this is huge news.. i wonder if this will spark the team sponsored leagues?

I was hoping that this thread was about SC2 on foreign cable channels, but this is great nonetheless
sc2 future looking bright =] hope this shit get's even bigger than it is.

Aw, you tricked me. Definitely thought this was for Americans ): Still, great news! More exposure to the E-Sports scene!

Exciting news!
Any way the thread title could be changed to "broadcast on Korean cable"?
Hopefully GSL 5 will be like GSL 4 in quality. Don't want SC2 on tv to get off to a bad start.
great stuff, sc2 whaiting!
Cool news! Hopefully its the first step of a long walk on TV for sc2.
Great news, definitely a step in the right direction
This is pretty cool. Amazing starting place on an anime channel, just like BW.
Edit: Oh wow at prime-time spots too.
So far the schedule is: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 Every Saturday: 2:00 p.m. to 6:00
This means foreigners on tv playing Starcraft!
Jinro and IdrA :D
Wonder how far the IdrA vs Zenio rivalry is going to get bigger :D I hope someone is going to do some crazy ceremony in that group on TV LOL. Oh sh** Hoping MC does some ceremonies :$

I totally thought the exact same thing haha I was hoping to get on the phone and call my cable company and add it right away.. oh well... defiantly a big step for eSports and a step to the future away from SC1.
This will make the foreigners more well known. Jinro and Idra better be ready for the screaming Korean fan girls
Yesss sc2 fighting!
now we need sick animated / cg intros
Fantastic news. Thanks for sharing. I'm torn. I want sc2 to grow, but I don't want BW to die.

I think they can both easily live alongside eachother, im sure stuff will get repeated and im a fan of many sports in my country and can normally catch everything i want via recordings and stuff so i wouldnt worry. This is great news and i hope players play up to the camera with ceremonies and taunts similiar to that of MC/Zenio and in the future firebathero :D
FBH doesn't even do ceremonies anymore, he's a clean cut army man.
Amazing news! This is what SC2 needs to be popular in Korea. A huge step in the right direction!
I wanna receive the channel =(
Watching Starcraft 2 on TV must be very cool.

Speaking about that does anyone know details about Kespa Vs. Bliz?
Back on topic: It nice that SC2 is getting more recognition.

Seems like this is a pretty healthy development for a game some people still insist is going to die any day.
Thumbs up!
Thats sick, so glad it's getting some more exposure.

great news for the community, this is huge!!

This is good news for the sc2 scene thanks for posting hopefully the foreign scene will get sc2 on tv eventually as well
umm i thught GSL's been broadcasted for months
Dammit, I got really excited at first because I thought that it was going to be a foreign cable network(wishful thinking I guess).
However, as others have said, this really is an awesome step in the right direction. Hopefully if this does really well, other networks will maybe consider doing the same. I know G4 had a televised cast of one of the EG tourneys, but I managed to get the unfortunate situation of not being able to watch it.
now all we need are those GSL maps on blizz's pool to make some nice macro games and then more koreans will start to embrace sc2.

Good translation of the recent happenings in the Kespa Vs Blizzard.

nice nice, a step forward

no, internet tv is popular in korea and thats GSL has been so far. this is cable tv.
Looks like they'll be doing delayed broadcasts of GSL, GSTL, and other SC2 events that most foreigners don't know about.
Awesome news for sc2.
Awesome! I can't wait for further development, this is amazing ^_^ Thank you for the update!
AniBox is such a small channel, my apartment in Korea doesn't even carry it as part of their TV package. Nevertheless this is a step forward.
fantastic news, SC2 FIGHTING 100th POST FIGHTING
Awesome. This is great news for the sake of SC2 in Korea. Cable exposure would really help the cause.
The channels called 'Anibox'?.. guys don't search it on urban dictionary.
I love this news. Hopefully the allure of being on TV draws bigger crowds to the GSL.
Sounds like a small TV channel for animation (i.e. aimed at a younger audience).
Of course, any news of SC2 getting more TV time on Korea is good news, but I'm not sure I'm as jubilant as some of you guys considering that we don't even know how big this TV channel is.
Also, since you seem to know a bit about this, could you put in some more information? What's AniBox? How many people will be able to watch it? How many are likely to watch it? Exacty. I'd love to know this as well. Maybe some of the Korean TLers can enlighten us there.
kinda minor channel though..
This is great news! They had to get their foot in the TV door eventually. And now they have :D
12 hours a week will allow them to broadcast the best matches each week and not show the really bad ones.
gamenet, mbcgame, we wanna the true ones. Anyone can clarify things about it?
SC2 is slowly becoming as popular as SC:BW!!! Great news :D
Defiantly step in the right direction, very good news.
Yeah, as other's have stated, i would love for anyone who happens to live in Korea to comment on the channel, as in how big/how many viewers this could bring. Im curious as to just how big this actually is for SC2
get SC2 on KBS Happy Sunday with Lee Seung Gi as the host and its geeeeeeeegeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
EDIT: People have been asking about the viewer potential considering Anibox. Actually, the three major broadcasting networks in korea are MBC, SBS and KBS. I have never heard of Anibox.
Sweet :D This will be not only a step for SC2 but also for GOM! And in the end, that just helps SC2! :D
"and other leagues"
Hype hype
Great news... Please make it free on europe too , i would love if a european cablo channel picked up Starcraft2 too, like eurosport or something..
Congrats to GOM! Maybe someday we'll see SC2 on some obscure ESPN at 2am one day.
My life for Aiur, my heart for you.
Great news indeed. Good to see SC2 taking its first steps!
Fantastic to see SC2 going on TV in Korea. Hopefully this will lead to bigger and better things in the future.
Wow this is super awesome, great step for eSports!
wow, a lot of good news for the community lately. Thanks for the translation^^
Wow this is awesome news.
Should get DirectTV and DishNetwork to carry it. Love to see this get more Western exposure.

another great news ! gg ^^

Is this going to be next to the channel where they broadcast Go games all day? They get so intense as the whole board fills with white and black. Oh wait the GSL is better next channel. Big step!
ESPN next?...
That would be a true dream come true...

Great to see that SC2 may be gaining some ground.

Cool, SC1 started on Tooniverse, which was another Anime channel too.
Plus Anibox is in HD, which neither OGN nor MBC Game is. It's probably better than Gom did this.
Weird thing is that AniBox gets exclusive rights. WTF is with Blizzard related things and "Exclusive" rights lol.
If this doesn't help SC2 take off then there's zero hope for it

AniBox is small and less known than Tooniverse when SC1 broadcasting started but it's ok. it's hard to get prime time to broadcast GSL on any cable TV unless Gom establishes their own cable TV, it's good step forward though
Hm yea just realized this is an Anime channel, which is pretty beast. This will help spread SC2 to the kids/teens/young adults (who pretty much can all play SC2!) and help "convert" some of them into SC2 :D.
Also, HD, cool! Didn't know MBC/OGN didn't have it, even though it's hard to tell the difference haha.
Edit: I was looking at the Avatars of some of the people who commented in the playxp site, and one of the GIFs (from user 캔시 ) looks like some kind of Protoss unit, but I don't remember seeing this in the game. Is this the "full" unit portrait/animation of one of the Protoss units, something that looks like a Protoss, or what? Thanks in advance, that Protoss unit looks badass xD

Great first step to get sc2 out there, perfect place to start.

So is there any way I can watch a restream of this channel? :D

A marathon begins with a single stride.

BW became that popular because of the female audience. If you look up the stats, the females made up 70% or 80% of the followers of BW. To be able to reach the female population Star2 needs to get on bigger Korean channels, or it will die. Is this channel too big to attract the females? I do not know, but I hope.
Looks very promising! Anything that brings SC2 further publicity is a really good thing! I know it is already, but let's hope that this news helps western SC2. Tournament sponsors and broadcasters can now look at Korea and say, hey SC2 is on TV now, on a fairly popular channel, maybe we should do that too. Or at the very least give them additional incentive to sponsor more tournaments and give bigger prize pools, if not put it on TV themselves.

Yes, this is a crucial point. In addition to females, BW appealed to people on a casual level; i.e. people who aren't playing 'seriously' on ladder or iCCup. I hope anibox can get some good TV talking heads for SC2, because half the excitement from watching progaming comes from the announcers.
This means the commentators should have to pass a test. The basis of the test would be to check if the commentators can yell
'STTORRRMMM'
'CHOGULING'
and 'CARRRRIEERRRR'
effectively to a point where people get riled up.

If you have Qook internet/tv service in korea, they show the games in HD on Channel 1 at random times. even though i already saw the games live, i was able to catch jinro's matches yesterday on my big screen.
