Artosis, from the bottom of my heart I would like to extend my thanks to your continued effort to provide top notch community content. You are an awesome person filled much epic win!
I think that Oak guy left out his most common nickname (well he didn't leave it out but he snuck it in near the end). He said Mcleod, who was a pretty well known T in the early stages of SC2. He had like 1000 games played REALLY early on (around 500-500 record though). I remember seeing him a lot, pretty cheesy guy though ^_^ I think thats him~

Hes living in the GOM apartment and casting Code A. Working to set up streaming, interviews, and other content about SC2 in Korea. He just doesn't have the time to commit to the game only now. It's almost impossible to do well in MLG, GOM, etc unless you are 100% committed.
Interesting news from cArn, I hope that works out for him. How did cArn do in the qualifiers? Obviously he didn't make it, but curious to know if he won a match.
Nice footage. Would've liked to see more of Oaks play but I understand that life doesn't always give you want you want. Thanks Artosis for being the man.
whoa the interview with FXO boss is actually really interesting.
They have plans for a GSL-size LAN in Malaysia and are setting up a teamhouse there. And i really like how their plan sounds very business-like. They think about how to sustain their "investment" long term by sponsorships and business ventures and not about just relying on donations or the parent company (FXO)
Quite interesting how they think that Korea seems to be not embracing SC2 fully and that the future of SC2 is not just in Korea like in BW but all over the world.

Yeah, by far the most interesting interview. If his plans mentioned in the interview and also in a few posts on TL are brought to life people would go ballistic.

I think it could be a really good idea to have a big event in Malaysia , life is much cheaper here so teams would have an easier time to sustain players down therer , it's a really touristic place as well so plane tickets are not that expensive ( around 500 euros for a round trip from paris). It's something where I could see myselft flying to , trying to qualify and if it doesn't work change my plan and enjoy the country . Thanks for the interview artosis!

Oklahoma ftw!
Now I need to get out there so we have another Okie in Korea :3
I don't mean this in a mean way, but are any of these players (other than mOOn) actually good? I feel like I've never seen them win anything (even minor $50 tourneys) so it's confusing as to why they tried out for GSL
Well we've all heard of Spades and mOOn. Carn is pretty big in France and I believe was a wc3 progamer?
Torch was (to my knowledge) relatively unknown until he tried out for gsl1/2 and made round of 64 or 32, not sure which. Ever since then he got picked up by ST, so is undoubtedly very good.

Torch is going to cast Code A? Ummm huh?
He basically subtly hinted at it somewhere else thing it was on carefoots stream.
I'm curious to see how well Oak plays. We only got a little glimpse in the hour long video. It would be nice if Artosis could get a replay out of the guy.
actually i liked the FXOBoss interview the most :D seems like a really cool guy and i loved how he presented his (very awesome and ambitious) malaysia-teamhouse-plans. can't wait for this, FXO fighting!
I don't really know that Oak guy, but I kinda like him - I wish him the best! Also thanks alot Artosis for being a huge baller and throwing down that qualifier video ^^ Good stuff!

wait so are Oak and the VT guys staying in the GOM house for now because they are there and they need a place to stay or are they *officially* part of the group of 8 who will be there permanently?
Nice interviews, thanks artosis! I definetely agree with Torch that Moonglade has a lot of potential, but I hope Torch can do well too. Interesting comments from Open though, kinda cool. Gl to Oak and Carn too!
Wow FXO Boss has a very appropriate name, this guy is a total boss in every sense of the word. It sounds like he has some big plans and isn't scared to throw his cash around to make them happen.
FXO Sponsors multiple things, not just SC2, so they are pretty awesome IMO Yay for SC2 gamers owning awesome companies like FXO/TLAF/Pokerstrategy! You guys are all awesome for all you do for the competitive SC community.
Great vids Artosis! As always they are insightful and awesome!
ecifircas, you need to listen to what I said again mate. I said nothing about esports being bigger in malaysia than korea.
If you want a detailed explanation here it is.
We feel that sc2 is going to be more global than brood war was. Because korea hasn't really taken off with sc2.
As we have contacts and access to malaysia, we decided that this would be the best hub for a team of our company to be located. As its only a cheap 5 hr flight to korea if they play in GSL. A cheap flight to USA for MLG and a cheap flight to dreamhack. Thus giving us access to the world, rather than being stuck in one corner of the world having to skip planes every 10 seconds to get to an event.
Malaysia is also terribly cheap, and our house will be 5 star compared to the houses in Korea.

Logistically, we feel its a smart move.
I hope this helps with your misinterpretation.
Not that the FXO players are bad, they are very good, but I think that with the resources you guys appear to have, you could sponsor some top notch player that are around.

No its not his name on sc2 now. It was in BETA. In NA his name is tGOak he is on our team toxic gaming. (recently changed to Nearz gaming) He has another name on NA that was ProfessorOak. Now hes in Korea >< Oak Represent!

Which one?!
..also; does she get you cheaper tickets for their games? :D
Hmm, I'm really not sure about this Oak guy. Not to insult him or something, he seems like a nice guy, but i think there are just people who would fit that spot better than him. I think the way that gomtv picks their candidates is just wrong. They shouldn't only go after ladder rating, but also look at things like tournament runs and stuff.
I really really hope that nobody else asked to be in the gom house, because that Oak guy, whatever. Hes 3000 masters, no tournament experience are you serious? we will never see him play a streamed game. I would love to know the process behind that decision.
Edit: Oh also, FXOBoss seems like a very smart, competent guy. Look to see FXO becoming a huge name in esports.
I don't really know what to think about Oak. He seems like a really nice guy but yeah we've never really heard of him. I'm hoping he gets more well known, seems like a likeable guy based on his interview. I think FXO could be one of the more premier teams in eSports in the future, they're already building up a good team just skill wise, and their plans to internationalize eSports are very cool. Boss seems like a cool guy too. Sad to see nobody make it in, but they'll hopefully have more chances in the future. Torch was so close!
Good luck to Glade, Huk, Ret, and Haypro, and great work Artosis!

the guys they got are the only ones who could make it looks like, other pro's you think are worthy probably don't think it's worth it to go. Why would euro pro's go to make 1300$ when they got many euro tourneys plus they gotta buy plane tickets. You have to defeat all code a and then beat a code s player to get in. Most Pro players don't think it's worth it. Dunno why your syaing oh it's not fair the pro's don't want to go it's that simple.
I don't know about Torch... Sometimes I feel it's nice he's so well spoken and articulated, but sometimes he just seems like a nerd living in his own world. Sometimes, it looks really professional great job! sometimes like during the CollegeHumor interview, it just seems really im 30-living-in-my-moms-basement

I have a feeling that GOM has some kind of guideline that they invite at least one random top ladder player over to Korea than reserve all spots for more well known pro gamers.
Wow, Haypro and Ret got seeded? That's... surprising. :o Wasn't it said that they would seed players based on achievements? Oh well, they definitely got the talent, I'm looking forward to the next GSL. :-)
Btw. is there a foreigner which managed to pass the qualification rounds?

Not surprising at all, at least for Ret being picked. Tell me what other foreign players are in Korea that have better achievements?

The only foreigners to make it in were the 4 seeded ones. This was the only qualifier for Code A.

Everything in this post is pretty thought out. Brilliant. Malaysia is awesome, and I agree wholeheartedly with what is going on here.
Korea basically has GomTV spearheading every tournament. This is shocking, where are all the $50 Weekly Tournaments that NA/EU have? What about the $100-$400 showmatches, $500+ Monthly tournaments, etc? Why aren't we hearing about people like Sjow who are continously dominating and instead only have to rely on ladder/GSL achievements? Pretty sad times.
Thanks Artosis for all the great work as always <3
GL to TL Code A guys and also Moonglade, it sucks no one qualified the old fashioned way but whos to say these four guys wouldnt have qualified? At least Ret and Huk would have qualified imo, also id give Moonglade a good chance.
In regards to the 'complaints' about OAK being in the house. I can honestly say that if anyone else bothered to show up, it may be a different story. He made the effort to get there and thus got a spot. The house was fairly empty, and it was a bit disappointing.
That being said, the people who are in there are all top notch people, and I think the experience was fantastic because of the people involved.
There was a comment earlier about us sponsoring first class players. I guess my question is, who in our team isn't first class? Our recruitment process looks to the future. mOOnGLaDe is an amazing player, so is sheth, moonan(allaboutyou) optikzero and filthy. They all compliment each other as a team, and will be strong together.
Our recruiting is not yet over, we are just taking our time to develop what we have before moving further forward. We are also making sure we have the logistics set up so that we can manage a team without it flopping. I truely believe that if the stars were aligned, we could have 3 of our players in code S. But again, it is up to the players to put in the effort to get there. Our company can only do so much and give so much, the rest is up to the player.
Remembering, we are treating this entirely as a business, so we do not want any form of failure.
Also, thanks guys for your compliments, its truly appreciated. I can be a bit prickly at times but thats what happens when you work 14-18 hr days
I didn't previously know the players on FXO, but from the interviews / thread, definitely hope they make their mark on the GSL / tournies around the world. The BoSs sounds pretty boss
Everyone on the FXO team is pretty damn strong. Especially with the recent acquistion of AllAboutYou I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing FXO entering some team leagues (GCPL Season 2/SCL) and tearing it up.
If you got one more Protoss, FXOBoSs, you'd be looking pretty even
Definitely derailing the thread by this point. Nice to see Artosis playing from the observer point of view, a shame he didn't qualify though.
Hope to see more from Oak soon, he might not be famous, but seems like an interesting honest person, and we need all sorts of foreign players to make the athmosphere more diverse in Korea! Oak fighting!

Well, I hope that I don't offend anyone, I'm quite a newbie to the starcraft 2 scene. But according to Liquipedia, the only achievement Ret has after the Beta-Phase of SC2, is a silver medal from the craft cup. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Ret (Not counting KoTH, since that was only a single best of 7 and no tournament.)
And I would've thought that they would ask non-korean players from all over the world (like: "Hey, didn't you place really high on that tournament recently? Do you want to come to Korea to participate in Code A? You can have one of the seeds from us.") instead of the non-korean players that happen to be in Korea.
On February 04 2011 02:28 beat farm wrote: why arnt any of the top european players in the house?
I guess it's cause unless they win, or place really high up in code S, they make way more money in Europe, as there's really only the GSL going on in Korea, wheres there are tons of tournaments in Europe. I'm pretty sure Sjow is going though.
