Winner of oGsTOP vs ZeNexByun
+ Show Spoiler +oGsTOP! Q. Congratulations on winning Code A. First of all, how do you feel?A. It was hard since it went the full distance but also more gratifying for the same reason. Q. Did the fact that there was no automatic Code S place for the winner make it harder to prepare?A. Since there was less 24 hours to practice before the finals, I mainly focused on mental imagery training. (T/N: sort of like creative visualization as in 'playing' in your head) Q. Did you ever think about whether the winner should be assured a place in Code S?A. I've been working hard for the past month. So it's a little disappointing that the prize money is the same as what my teammate oGsjookTo got for finishing last in his Ro32 group of Code S. Also, the fact that there was nothing like a trophy for the winner adds to that sentiment. Q. You go straight into another important match.A. It's hard but I will work hard to get promoted. Q. What chances do you give yourself for promotion?A. It's certainly possible if I do my best. Q. What were your priorities if any, for choosing your opponents for the up & down matches.A. It was important for me to choose players according to my most confident match-up. That meant it would be a smart move to choose players of the same race. Q. Is there a particular reason for choosing SlayerS_LegalMind and SanZeNex?A. I also considered choosing AnyproPrime.WE and HongUnPrime.WE but my hand just went to those names. I didn't stress too much about my choices. Q. Is there a reason why that was?A. I was confident that I could beat any protoss player outside of my team so it didn't really matter who I faced. Q. Before you made your first choice, your hand hovered around TSL_Fruitdealer's name.A. I really wanted face Fruitdealer-hyung but after discussing it with my coach and my manager, we came to the conclusion that it would be more meaningful for me to play him in Code S rather than in the up & down matches. Q. If you could say one thing to TSL_Fruitdealer?A. I don't think he will get demoted to Code A but I'd like him not to underestimate his opponents and make sure he reaches Code S. Q. Your results after GSL Open Season 1 were disappointing.A. It was very difficult after failing to qualify for Seasons 2 and 3. I also travelled to sweden (T/N: Dreamhack) which also didn't turn out great. Afterwards, I realised the importance of being in Code S and that is why I really want to secure promotion this time. Q. Lately, there have been a lot of talk about the TvT match-up. What are your thoughts on that?A. I've been practicing it a lot recently. However, I feel my builds aren't stable so it remains in the research stage. Q. It seems like your female fanbase has increased quite a bit.A. I haven't been paying much attention so I'm not sure. It doesn't feel real but I'm just thankful that more and more people are showing up to cheer for me. Q. Any final words?A. I'd like to thank my mananger (oGsTheWind), my coach (oGsGon) and the team captain (oGsCezanne). I would also like to express my gratitude for my teammates and my parents for their enduring support. Had to whip it up in a jiffy since I was in a hurry. Please feel free to point out any mistakes.

I agree here. Code A might not be what everyone wants to see, but they do deserve perhaps a trophy or some form for at least accomplishing something on a level that surpasses a good majority of us.

You have a typo by the way.

Thanks ^^

Didn't he say that he will choose Fruitdealer in up and down match? I was happy when he said that since that would be a brave move so he's all talk and back away on the very last minute? or maybe he's smart

Thanks for the translation

I was waiting for this. Thanks for taking your time to translate the interview
|
Great job on the translation, always love to read these.
Anyone know why he wanted to face Fruitdealer? Some sort of conflict I don't know about?
|
Fruitdealer eliminated him in GSL1 IIRC.
|
The winner doesn't auto enter Code S? Seems pretty dumb but I guess the numbers work out this way. Really hope he can take out FD and advance.

Thanks for translating! ^^

In my favorite GSL games so far Glad to see TOP doing well, I hope he makes S class

Sick series. oGsTOP hwaiting!!
|
good terran. nice to see him back after gsl2/3 failures. he should have beaten FD back in gsl1, he had the series, so no surprise he thought of choosing FD. He'll take out legal and or sans easily.

I also travelled to sweden (T/N: Dreamhack) which also didn't turn out great.
It seemed like he had a good time, but maybe not? :/

The up and down matches are scheduled for 4 days. So that's 2 groups per day. Anyone knows how it works?
I remember hearing the casters mentioned that 3rd place has 2 chances, so it means if the 4th place loses just one game, he's instantly demoted? How bout the code A player?
|
Whats the prize for 1st place in code A and code S.
|
So like the winner of Code A gets a thousand dollars.
That's it for his entire month of hard work and overcoming all.
No trophy, no seeding into Code S, no recognition.
Like, there is no motivation for getting first place. The final of Code A is about as consequential as the final of WCG Korea, in which the champion gets only bragging rights.

Each group consists of 3 players, a code A, 4th place code S and 3rd place code S player. The code A player first plays the 3rd place code S player in their group. The winner of that is instantly code S and doesn't play anymore. The loser of that game plays the 4th place code S player and the winner is code S and the loser code A. That's why they kept saying that 3rd place has 2 chances, etc. Hope that helps explain it.

I am sure that it was a good time. He is referring to not doing well.

Oh come on, you sexy beast. He can't honestly say has hasn't noticed his personal parade of fangirls.
I'm sure he'll make it into Code S. Said that a while ago. It's easy to see that there are some players that don't belong in Code S, but I am confident that time will sort that one out.
|
Jesus Christ. Most of those answers don't even directly address the question that was asked. Top gives a more boring interview than Kimi Raikkonen. + Show Spoiler +obscure reference for more SC players, I know. But it's true.
Thanks for putting the time into the translation tho.

Thanks for the translation.

I actually kinda like this guy, I think he'll do very well in code S.

TvT is usually a snooze fest IMHO.
Code A,Final - oGsTOP vs ZeNEXByun
Changed all that. A Lot of fun to watch, great players! I esp like ZeNEXByun. Fantastic.

If I was a girl I'd be his fan. He's a cutie.

Thanks for the interview! I always read these as soon as they pop up ^ ^

I kinda feel bad for TOP as the distinction between Code A and Code S is ridiculously huge (in terms of prizes) and there were some, well, 'undeserving' players in Code S. But he pulled it out and no doubt he will stomp over sanZenith and Legalmind so gl hf to him
|
Yeah I'm glad he didn't choose Cool because then there would be a chance of someone undeserving being bumped down to code A (whereas now it's certain that someone undeserving will stay in code S though)
|
Haha where did the female fangirls question come from? (context anyone? :D)
|
yea top I'm sure your hand just went to legalmind and sanzenith LOL
|
YEAAAH! Go TOP! I became an instant fan after watching his games vs MC in the Kaspersky tournament. I'm seriously thinking of starting a fanclub if I could ever get off my lazy ass. (Btw, great question for him when he undoubtedly wins EVERYTHING: Which kind of top do you mean? The spinning top (inception posters shall become dominant) or the "top of your game" kind of top? I really wanna know so I can get my artsy pals on it immediately.)
|
I'm excited to see Top Play some Protoss players since TvP is such a fun yet frustrating matchup late-game. I'll be tuned in to see his builds and style so i can emulate him on ladder. Terran Fighting.
|
Pretty disappointing that the winner of Code A finals doesn't get an auto Code-S spot. That and the prize money is like of the very bottom Code-S player. I think it should be at least a Code-S spot for winning the Code-A tournament.
|
Wish him the best of luck in tonights matches! Sad that he didn't even get a trophy for winning code A. Thanks for the translation!
|
+ Show Spoiler +Gogo oGs I knew it was gunna be an oGs player to win Code A, I just feel like if you win Code A that should guaranty you a spot in Code S but I feel like hes got a great shot to make it anyway
|
lol.. top vs fruitdealer is one of the series I remember the most.. he had such a huge lead and threw it away.. if he had just played like 99% of other players wouldve played after killing so many drones he wouldve stopped fruitdealer from winning the GSL.

Thank you for the translation!

Good interview. I'm not a fan of the current system for GSL. Movement between leagues seems too hard and too small. For aspiring players, working your way through whatever long process code B will require, only to have to plow throw at least 24 of the 32 members of code A, and then not finishing in the bottom 8 of the 24 players in the up and down matches, seems excessive. And all for that you get a small prize and the ability to play in the next code S. Almost as bad as grinding away as a B-teamer in broodwar. I'd like to see a more fluid and accessible system for new players who didn't necessarily play in GSL's 1-3.

code S gets 80k+. code A 1k. what are those silly koreans thinking?
It's midblowing discouraging.

I find it completely absurd that the winner doesn't get an automatic by into Code S. I mean, the whole point of the up and down match system is to prove that you're one of the better A players, and who's better than the winner of the entire tournament?
And no trophy? I mean, come on! I don't know if anyone here watches motocross/supercross, but the Lites class (125cc, 250f) where the younger guys work their way into a decent sponsorship still rewards a damn big trophy and a respectable purse for the top finishers.
There needs to be more incentive to win Code A, otherwise people will just put in enough effort to get to the Up/Down and then drop their effort (and subsequent entertainment value of the match) towards the finals.

The problem is that if you let the winner of Code A get the spot of the worst Code S player, you will have to figure out who exactly the worst Code S player is. Therefore imho the current system is fine.
I do however agree that the Code A should get more recognition in the form of more prize money and a trophy.
|
I don't have any problems with the Code A winner not getting automatically up to Code S. If he is any good he should win quite easily, especially since he got to choose who to play against. I think those matches are really interesting to watch, since so much is at stake for the players.

Automatic promotion into code S would screw up the current Code S format as who would he swap with from Code S? The current format is working fine and is really entertaining..
Code A needs more prize money though - to encourage people from outside Korea to take the plunge and go to Korea there needs to be some serious incentive..

If Code A winner got bigger prizes than Code S last placing players, then those "bad" players might want to lose on purpose on Code S, to gain the possibility of rolling Code A players and have a better chance at winning the prize than on Code S, this would completely mess up the system, so I agree with what they're doing, even if it IS kinda sad.
Or even WORSE, once I win Code A, I'll lose on purpose on the up and down matches, and roll the Code A all over again, sounds awful. Maybe a trophy though, for some emotional value.

This. Technically (going by points, obviously it's not the same in practice right now) the bottom Code S player should be better than the top Code A player. If you combine the two codes into one then the top Code A player would be 33rd overall.
Looking at it this way, it's perfectly understandable why ogsJookto would get the same prize money as ogsTOP. Although I can also see the other side, given that Jookto played only 2 games to be eliminated and receive his prize money, whereas TOP had to play several sets against different players in order to receive his.
|
imo the collection of these tvt's definitely bestest the one tvt between jinro and ensnare. while that game was beyond epic, this code a final was definitely the most educational.
|
This is not surprising at all, oGsTOP is clearly one of the most solid Korean Terrans out there.
|
Picking who to play against to get into code S is almost as good as getting a free ticket into code S, anyway >.>
Win code A = 1k, but you also get a near-free ticket to get into code S which is MINIMUM 1k each season.
