Sony Ericsson is the new sponsor for GSL. It is the 4th largest mobile phones manufacturer in the world.
Sorry that this OP is so low-content, but there's not much more to say.

Gillette and Panasonic were in similar positions when they decided to sponsor the Ongamenet Starleague for Brood War years back. Gillette was the last foreign OSL sponsor in 2004, Pringles (Other weird or notable e-sports sponsors? Coca-cola, Baskin Robbins, You Are the Golf King, a p2p program of ambiguous legality) was the last foreign MSL sponsor in 2006.

I do wonder what happened with Intel. They withdrew, or did SOny Ericsson overbid? Can't have 2 main sponsors? Don't know much about how those things work.

Don't know much about how those things work. Galaxy should be a Samsung phone. AFAIK, the Xperia X10 series is only Sony Ericsson line to have android. SE probably overbid Intel for the main sponsor. If they allow everyone to have their name on the GSL, it'll get too long.

I find this very interesting. Are SE phones in wide use in Korea? I know that Korea is one of the few countries other than the US to have a widespread CDMA cellphone network, yet in the US you can't get a SE phone with CDMA bands.

I think it's actually better for global e-sports for it to not be a Korean company. Other large Western/Japanese companies might take notice and be intrigued. I also think it's cool that it's not a traditional computer company like Intel as other's have mentioned, because it's a bit more mainstream and less niche, again helping other companies get interested, and maybe even getting the attention of people who like the brand but haven't been interested in e-sports/StarCraft 2.

Then that would be like truley awesome casting !!!!!!!! edit: BIG QUESTION The prize pool has been announced prior to this huge event. Does this mean 1.) they have already found their sponsors and are revealing them season by season 2.) they are finding sponsors for every GSL while the events are happening? what if they can't get a sponsor for GSl 3 ?

An internationnal company like this sponsoring the major SC2 event, it will probably open the door for a lot more companies who didn't want to risk it. I think it'll help esports in general, really nice news imo ![]()

![]() For the people who are saying this is the start of big western companies investing in e-sports, we had Coca Cola OSL back in 2001.^^ Many big companies have sponsored a BW league at some points, the problem is that they tended to stop taking interest after one tournament.
