Random background:

Loner and Luffy were on Team Panda, one of the first SC2 teams in China, but recently left. They're currently in Korea preparing for GSL2. Loner was rank 28 on teh latest Korean top 200, and Luffy was 116. Edison is there as their coach, since he was the coach/co-founder of Panda but left with Loner/Luffy. Loner and Luffy are definitely among the top Chinese players right now, and many would consider Loner to be the best. Loner is T, Luffy is Z.

Hello, Edison. A few days ago we learned that you, Loner, and Luffy will be going to Korea to participate in GSL2. Has all of this been confirmed?
-Yes, basically. There are a few more things being taken care of right now.

The expenses associated with going to Korea can’t be low, did you 3 get some sort of sponsorship?
-We have gotten 3 sponsors, GIGABYTE, I-Rocks, and Kappa. We are very grateful for their trust and support.

We know that you and the two players left Panda a while ago, so are you guys currently an amateur clan, or are you just team/clan less?
-We’re currently teamless. We’re good friends after all, so we got a few friends’ help, got some sponsors, and now we can go to Korea together.

You first appeared at Stars War as a guest commentator. Before that, did you do anything related to the e-sports industry?
-I was the captain of the amateur e-sports team Lingyu, it’s been 11 years since I’ve been exposd to e-sports.

We’ve heard your SC2 skills aren’t bad either, and players like Loner and Ace were people whom you beat many times before communicating and discovering their potential.
-That’s before. It’s actually been a while since I’ve seriously practiced. I mainly just help them study details and technical aspects, like maps. And random games. I’m more like a babysitter, haha.

I think many Chinese e-sports fans are worried about the results of going to Korea. Korea has traditionally dominated BW, and many people think this will continue into SC2. What do you think?
-To be honest, because SC2 hasn’t been released in the mainland yet, the attention placed on SC2 isn’t as high as we’d hoped. We’d rather view this trip as an experience and opportunity to improve. I think the result will be irrelevant, no matter it meets our expectations or not. Youth is short, but as long as we fought and tried and gave it our best, it’d be fine. At least we took this step, and we hope to use this to kickstart the entire industry, to draw more e-sports lovers to SC2.

You’re going to be playing against Koreans, so high quality practice is important. Do you guys play ladder or custom? Who against?
-We do both, but mostly custom. We mainly practice against Maka, Cool, etc.

What do you, Loner, and Luffy think about the balance as of the latest patch?
-TvZ is slightly more balanced now, but the Zealot nerf means Protosses needed more time to adjust, and have a harder time against early rushes.

A lot of old BW gamers think the ladder maps are the main contributor to the imbalance.
-It’s true, BW’s rise was also helped along by professional maps made by KeSPA. This can only change with time. We should try to adjust, complain less, and practice more.

Thanks for the interview, we wish you good luck on your trip to Korea.
-And thanks to you for the care. Thanks to all the friends out there who’re supporting us, and also thanks to GIGABYTE, I-Rocks, and Kappa’s sponsorship. We’ll try our best.

Nope it's Stars War, it's some tournament that is usually mainly War3 focused AFAIK, but they added in SC2 this last year. It was China vs. Korea vs. USA, with Idra, Artosis, Tasteless for USA, Ace, Loner, Luffy for China, and uhh...Check someone someone for Korea I forgot who. Clan wars style, one revival. China won 2-0, USA 1-1, Korea 0-2 surprisingly enough.

I'd like to know the win ratio, replays would be best though.

Anyway, good luck to them!

Sen doesn't play in that many tournaments right now, so we can't really tell. He's also playing from Taiwan. I'm sure Sen is up there though.

I really like his way of approaching e-sports as a whole, the business model that they had in china and that they seem to be trying to transfer over looks really solid.

The "since we can't really play much yet so let's just go and meet people while we practice" mentality is really good and will definitely help them in the long term.

I like that more foreigners take the chance of going to Korea, to take a shot at the gsl. I hope it continues like this. And i hope that more teams will follow, and that we might see dimaga, morrow and the rest of the top foreigners go there, it would be epic. Then I think a foreigner would actually win, because I dont think the koreans are any better than the foreigners, unlike in bw.

Counting down in 3... 2... 1...

Having seen some replays of Loner, I've never seen his lategame in TvP and TvZ. Some pretty well timed midgame pushes however.

Well... since no one else is jumping on this:

1) Taiwan is called the "Republic of China" officially
2) Everybody of value that belonged to the "Guomingdang" political party (which basically was China pre-1940s) relocated to Taiwan
3) The difference between Taiwan and China is like the difference between South Korea and North Korea (except economics, military, etc.).

I don't really care too much but my dad's hardcore about it so some of his arguments in a nutshell.

I'm a US citizen.

Firstly, great interview! Anyways, I couldn't resist expressing my view in regards to the whole Taiwan-China topic which was started after IdrA said Sen isn't Chinese because he's from Taiwan.

I'm an Australian citizen, but I'm Taiwanese and in my opinoin I don't consider Taiwan-China to be similar to South Korea-North Korea. Firstly, it's almost been 100 years since the people from the Guomindang political party left China and many things have changed since then. Taiwanese people have stuck to Traditional Chinese whereas the mainland Chinese people changed to Simplified. Not only was the reading/writing changed, but the way and manner Taiwanese speak is largely different to how Chinese people talk, not just accent-wise. A very large amount of Taiwanese people also speak the Taiwanese dialect. If I'm not mistaken, you find any North Korean or South Korean and have them engage in conversation. I'm fairly certain they will find it extremely easy to understand each other and have barely any differences in the way they hold normal day-to-day conversations whereas I have personally met many Chinese friends and from my experience, I have to focus and listen very intently to understand what they are saying. Not only is there differences in language, but also the cuisine has seen vast changes and many staple Taiwanese dishes which I doubt you will find in China. There are many more things I could mention but its past 2am and I should be going to bed. I hope you see where I'm coming from =) just wanted to express my personal view. I see myself as Taiwanese, not Chinese and I just really can't say that we are like North-South Korea. In my view, I would liken it more towards such as how Americans, New Zealanders and Australians all first migrated from England.

I don't like talking about politics in the thread, but you really tried so hard to distinguish yourself from Chinese, which makes you only more pathetic. Your "big difference between languages and cuisines" exaggerates too much. I'd rather agree Zyphen's dad than yours.

Also, Idra's intelligence is not enough to talk about politics. He only tells bad jokes.

chinese in general sense, which usually means a specific race rather than a region/nationality.

Here come the fenqing. How is zooy's language barrier example an exaggeration? How is distinguishing Taiwan from China "pathetic"? You're only support for your opinion is your ad hominem attacks which you use against him and idra. Those attacks make your views look more silly. Also, I would bet that idra, who has spent a lot of time with both east Asian and western citizens, is more keenly aware of race and politics than you are.

What the hell? I'm Chinese from mainland. Oh, that's why I attack him and Idra?

Just to make it clear, generally I hate all patriotism.

I was fine by that trash talk from Idra which has nothing to do with our discussion, but I couldn't stand someone pick up his words and make a fuss.

Those Taiwanese/Chinese guys above. Take your politic argument elsewhere. This thread is about SC2. Anyway, Taiwan people dont like/ look down upon mainland people.

On topic:
I've watched Loner play since beta, I dont think he's a good macro player, but its SC2, everybody can macro to some degree. But his ingame decision is damn good, and that why I think he still has great potential in SC2

This discussion doesnt go any further than this. Stick to the interview, Taiwan vs China has been rehashed enough times on these forums.
