it doesn't excuse his behavior - but it explains why he acted like that. still douchey.

"They boo, they use profanity. Then, when they introduce the teams, they practically mumble the names of the visiting players and then they turn out all the lights, have some kind of light show, boost up the PA so that it hurts your ears, and introduce the home team as if they just saved the planet. Then, during the game, the fans are screaming on every call, the coaches are screaming on every call. "It's hostile. You can call it what you want, but it's a hostile atmosphere. "Okay, the game ends. Now, everyone lines up to shake hands. I hate that. They shouldn't do it." He lit his cigar. I couldn't resist. "You hate sportsmanship?" I said. He almost threw the cigar at my head. "Sportsmanship!" he said. "That's not sportsmanship. That's phony, fake. They don't mean it for a second. What's more, it can lead to trouble. Guys are still hot when a game ends, especially a close game... "There is a good deal of phoniness on the big-time college level. In fact, during the NCAA tournament, when coaches are given a pregame schedule, it includes a notation that says, "When you are introduced by the PA, please walk to the scorer's table and shake handles with the opposing coach." "That's dumb," Red said. "That's all about image." My opinion is the media who are forcing their own fantastic standards upon the players are the arrogant ones. Lebron pushes himself to play the best basketball of his life for the series. He's not making excuses or qualifying the Magic's victory. And people have the gall to insist on demanding that he shows Jordanesque competitiveness to expecting Dalai Lama-esque graciousness in losing.

he just lost after having the greatest season of his career and the best team and path he's had to the finals yet. He was hyped to the point it was almost a foregone conclusion who'd be playing from the East in June. Let him vent - this isn't going to be easy for him to get over.

The Celtics and Pistons were always good with each other after the series and the reason the Pistons left the court against Chicago was because Jordan had talked shit about the Pistons the day before. Him and Dwight played all summer together, you'd think he'd show some support like Carmelo did with Kobe. Talking to the media might suck, but the media is also the reason he's a hundred million dollar endorsement guy. The story is definitely overblown, but he should've shaken hands, he should've talked to the media and he shouldn't have given that ridiculously terrible explanation today. You're not going to shake someone's hand after fighting them? What do you think MMA fighters and boxers do? I guess playing basketball takes more out of you than getting punched in the face.

Press conference : "What happened?". We all know the answer to this question. Then "you were teammates with Dwight during Olympics" follows. So what? And then they question if he will sign new contract with Cleveland and that's pretty much it. Add some small talk and polite talk to it and that's it. Shaking hands is different, yes. Can't blame skipping press conference tho. My X- factor in the series - Bynum. If the guy gets himself in the foul trouble early in the first game then I think they will have serious problems with Orlando.

Do you expect him to get more times vs the Magics if he doesn't get foul out in less than 10 minutes? I think Pau Gasol actually few of the guys who can slow Howard down to less than 25 points a game.

Lebron would agree with all of this. he just had a momentary lapse of judgment that can happen to anyone. this is not to justify what he did, but he is not perfect and just an emotional young guy, i don't see what is so out of place in this situation.

I think the Lakers will employ the old Hack-a-Shaq on Howard to put him off his rhythm and hence put more pressure on guys like Turkoglu and Lewis (who will choke) to bolster the scoring sheet. Lakers in 5 or 6.

Because his lapse of judgment carried into the next day. You'd also think it'd be a moment that you'd want to share with your teammates, rather than run off alone with your mom.

Except you know, Shaq, being as a promising as he was back in Orlando, after getting swept by the Rockets in the Finals in (95 I think?), shook the Houston Rocket's hands. He was crying, he clearly got outplayed by Hakeem, but his dad told him, you will shake that man's hands and he did. Lebron threw a little fit, walked out of the stadium thinking he was above sportsmanship, thinking he was the title-less King, leaving his team (who are already embarrassed at their collective performance) to deal with the aftermath. I honestly hope he breaks his shooting arm badly enough to sit out the next 2 seasons. Jordan shook the Piston's hands even after their little All-Star game debacle, Shaq shook Hakeem's, Kobe shook Nash's, Lebron became an insta-bitch.
