He is not tasteless or artosis or chill. He does not consistently provide correct strategical insight. He is not the most dedicated or passionate Starcraft player or fan.
However, he has an unrivaled ability to convey passion and enthusiasm for Starcraft. This is the kind of talent that one would expect from a writer. Personally I became interested in Starcraft by watching him, started lurking TL.net, and went to iccup where I became C-. Now if I go back and listen to his commentaries they bother me for the same reasons they bother many other players that are as good or much better than myself. However, I continue to respect and admire klazart for inspiring me to take up the game.
I wish that he commanded a little more respect on teamliquid. I don't think he ever claimed to know very much about the game, but the amount of love he receives from his many youtube fans should convince everyone that he is a valuable part of the community. Same story for me. I forgot exactly how I got interested in SC again, but I almost gave up on it because I could barely understand half the things said on TL and just had way too little knowledge of the game to understand why they were doing what they did.
I still watch the occasional commentary from moletrap or diggity if they cast something like the ESL or yankee league even though I've sort of outgrew them. The original guys from SC2GG get so much shit around here but I'm glad they were around, or else I probably wouldn't be watching SC today.
On topic, it's funny as hell to see a forum full of aspiring writers acting just like any other forum on the internet.

From the Authonomy FAQ: Why doesn’t a book’s rank correspond to the number of bookshelves it’s on?
... Finally, the contribution to a book’s overall rank provided by of each bookshelf recommendation will vary depending on the talent spotter ranking of the bookshelf owner: The support of higher ranked talent spotters counts for more than lower ranked ones.
How does authonomy calculate my talent-spotter rank?
Every time you place a book on your bookshelf, you start to share in the success of that manuscript. As that book becomes more popular across the site, your reputation as a trend-spotter will rise accordingly
The earlier you back a great discovery, the more you have to gain. If you’re the first person to recommend a hot new script, you’ll gain more from its success than anyone else. Conversely, if you back books that are already popular, you’ll find your reputation might not rise as quickly as you’d like.
So the book was ranking up not because of increasing total registered time, but because the book ranking up itself was increasing the talent-spotter rank of its voters-- especially its early voters.

I don't think it was the youtube thingy that got him the votes. Only about 200 people have watched his video (and many of them are probably Authonomy people). He has more than twice that number of shelves, so the suppport is coming from elsewhere. Quote from one of their forum regulars

I actually like Klazart alot. He was pretty much the driving force of me getting into the game about 2 years ago, so I'm very thankful for that.
Obviously as I got better his commentaries were more jarring to watch due to the mistakes/lack of insight, but they really are very entertaining when you're a noob - or tired and just want to watch a game and switch off.
The book is actually pretty good to. Needs editing and its a little stilted in places, but is generally well written and structured.
This site on the other hand...So basically when I finish my book, if I get my family, TL and everyone I know on facebook to back it I can go to number 1 on this website...cause as of right now the video only has about 2k views, which would mean probably 1kish backers. So it would seem that the site, if it actually is significant, is so open to abuse its not even funny, since some facebook lurker could bump themselves right up without even thinking about it.
Looks to me like we're going to see some new rules and regulations in future :/

I don't get it. It's like these people have never seen the internet before.
Referring to someone pasting a Wikipedia link: Yeah, there's a great review on Klazart's site where someone downloaded a website from a math textbook.

Hmm i like this besides the shit talking against eachother in this thread over something not related to SC -.-. Go us for being dumb!!

iNcontrol what do you mean by Tone? you need to clarify it.
Definiion: Tone (linguistics): the use of pitch in language to distinguish words
somehow you have to provide fact that shows Klaz's terrible abililty to use pitch in order to distinguish his words.(quote him on places where his pitch prevent him from distinguish words)
if what you say is true, then it means you can't distinguish Klaz's words because of Klaz's tone, hence, you won't be able to understand Klaz's at all. which also means it would be very very easy for you to provide many cases of when you think Klaz failed to use pitch in order to distinguish his words.
and then from that point on your argument is solid, if people can't understand what the commentator is saying, then the commentator has failed. If you can't provide evidences to back up your claim about Klaz's tone being terrible then your argument does not stand.
Which leave you only 1 argument, which is Klaz's lacking in indepth game knowledge, which i agree with you.

This is a great post.
He is wonderful for nubs from what I understand. And the voice thing apparently is a minor issue. He obviously isn't struggling for fans. So getting all pissy and calling me unamerican and other shit is irrelevent. He is in the public eye as a commentator, he can take criticism.

I'd suggest stopping arguing to read the site. It's pure comedy gold. An example:
recon
the best character in StarCraft is the ghost.
You claim to have watched this site for a few days to get to know how it works.
You should send in the ghost for a little longer. Turtle not zerg.
You may have won the game. But if you want to play again, you've gotta find some friends and so far, it's not your playing that matters, but the way you play.
We've been leveling up for months and you using an exploit isn't going to work.

Looool wow Klazart fans are the fucking swarm, and like Inc said I don't see how anyone likes him.
Klazart to me is like fastest maps, noobs central with a huge following.
And hey, all the more power to him for making it happen [:

I have a feeling this book will overtake Klazart's soon:
Book Review:
Aside from being a comprehensive and almost infallible guide to the Shadow Rush, this book offers some fairly layered insight into the complex labyrinth of the human psyche. What is ostensibly a straightforward tutorial soon gives way to stunning depth, probing the very deepest chasms of human desperation.
The reader is taken on a harrowing journey inside the very nature of self delusion as it unfolds on the pages. It's soon very clear that pressure, and the shadow rush, can effect all our lives in ways we might never notice without the aid of this eerily prescient tome.
Affecting, immediate and important, Shadow Rush is not to be missed.

On March 22 2009 16:12 nttea wrote: well the ranking is not just based on the number of backers, but also their rating (they call it something i forgot what) i read on klazart's youtube comments that if you back a book early before it begins to rise then this rating will increase, (you will be considered a good talent spotter). So what we could do is all pick another book to back, and if everyone votes on that then the ones voting early would have the talent spotter rating increased, thus increasing klazart's book ranking. I suggest Sye Pascoe's book since he's friendly. But that might be nice or not nice to him, it could make the other members of their community dislike him.
ah nttea you beat me to it. On a related note, the talent spotter ranking is being screwed over. http://www.authonomy.com/PeopleChart.aspx?pg=1 http://www.authonomy.com/PeopleChart.aspx?pg=4
