I'm assuming you're referring to your own stupid arguments taking too much time so it would be good to stop. As for that line being racist, I'd like to point out that's what /your own country actually did/. Or should I say, your government? But that's ok because you shouldn't take offense to even suggesting that your government was at one point, racist, right?
PS. I regularly defend Paris as one of the most tolerant cities I've ever lived in. (I completely loved my four month there, I thought the people in France treated me awesome and were pretty polite at all times.) The fact that you even think my post said "Westerners = racist" not only completely debunks your entire post of "people shouldn't be insulted when their government is critiqued" but also misconstrues mine.

No because denying it would be retarded, because governments, and most people, were racist back then. People learn from their mistakes.
And about solidarity, if the Chinese knew what Mao has on his conscience, along with other commmunist leaders their solidarity wouldn't be nearly as strong. How is their solidarity not controlled heavily through propaganda and censorship?

Hey I love anecdotal evidence, please tell me more about how Paris is tolerant because of a few personal experiences.

I'll give you the point that, yes, Mao was definitely one of the worst leaders of China after he managed to wrest control of the country. His government was completely corrupt and quite a few signs pointed to him more or less being a dictator under another name. However, the China of today is scarcely the same as it is then, so using that point isn't entirely valid IMO. if you want to say people learn from their mistakes, then it applies both ways. Even the most nationalist Chinese would admit Mao had some faults.

Offtopic: But personal experiences are where we form our opinions on =P. If you must know, one of the most touching moments I've had there was when I first went to a club and couldn't speak a lick of French worth mentioning. A friend of my friend (I didn't even know the guy) just offered flat out to show me around and help translate for me. Not the answer you're looking for, but still a fond experience of mine.

I don't think any of those posts ever came up. Though we did have a few people calling others idiots, douche, and ball less. Those weren't the "Chinese mob kids" though? That's exactly what you are trying to say. But you are smarter and educated so you don't say it directly. But your overall answer is still the same. Summary: it is not your business + if you make criticism of the government you are an idiot and a China hater. That's some serious nationalistic ego issues. Untrue, I think if you want to make criticisms of the government then put it where it belongs. But having /every/ thread derail into a Chinese government bashing thread gets really really old.
Are you kidding?
he's criticising a GOVERNMENT program... remind me again why his point is invalid??

Yes. And actually, you got trolled into thinking I was a troll.
And yes, I read it. It's a govt. program. His criticism is valid

I find it funny that KissBlade, who has spent his morning going above and beyond to stop "China bashing", is the main reason that this thread has turned into a discussion on the Chinese government in the first place.

If an individual gets insulted when you call their government bad they are a bunch of nationalist idiots. How you relate to your cultural and political surroundings make up a large part of how an individual defines oneself, more so in the east than the west. More often than not, this has the effect of making a person take offense to a criticism of their government. As such, a bit of tactfulness doesn't hurt in these sorts of scenarios; I'm sure you wouldn't like it either if I said your government was crap and that you were a nationalistic idiot for taking offense to that statement.
I'm not the biggest fan of every decision our governments make, whether its Chinese, Korean, or American. However, I do understand the necessity of the balance between restricting personal freedom and ensuring the good of the state. Every so often a random government gives the pretense of leaning towards one end more so than the other and people are quick to jump on the hate bandwagon without thinking the issue through rationally. I'm mainly targeting the typical "Well, this is crap because it sounds like the government is restricting personal freedom and that's always a bad thing in my book so I'm gonna take this opportunity to criticize the government based solely on this one decision without looking at both sides of the problem." responses.
I don't particularly like this decision on the Chinese government's part, but I understand why they would propose something like this. The potential benefits have already been pointed out. I believe time will tell whether they end up outweighing the negatives.

Yeah, I'm just going to stop. =) Some people obviously just get their fun out of certain things.
^^ Great post btw Sprite. Sums up my opinion completely.

What about the anti-fatigue thing isn't cracking down on gaming? Don't really think it's a big deal, it's probably not healthy sitting and staring at a computer for more than 3 hours straight and what Emlary said is that it's not like they can only play 3 hours a day it was just 3 hours in a consecutive time period so they might be able to play for 3 hours take a break for an hour or 2 and come right back.
It actually seems like a good idea to me. Also making people accountable for their actions online, like how they would be made accountable in real life also doesn't seem to bad (referring to the need for name in registration for online games).
