Okay I read somewhere weird Internet things and this one popped out.

Quotes from The Bible
+ Show Spoiler +

2 Kings 16

2: Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.

20: Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And Hezekiah his son succeeded him as king.

2 Kings 18

1-2: In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother's name was Abijah [a] daughter of Zechariah.

Okay so If I add years 20+16 means 36 and he died, so after that his 25 years old son became as king.

So Christianity accepts 10-11 years old to have sex? Unless I totally misunderstood what these lines did mean.

It's possible that a younger person in line for the throne would result in a regent (perhaps Ahaz's brother) being appointed to act in Hezekiah's stead. Not a king and not necessarily worthy of mention in a religious text.

But of course this is just speculation and I'm far from being well-versed in religion.

Uh... you realize in times past people used to die pretty young? It wasn't uncommon for people to procreate when they were young (and often), because they died young too.

Okay now that I think, this was before Jesus was born (whoever believes that). So everything was "legal" before that (because official there wasn't religion yet) :D

Then again 10 year old kids having sex isn't illegal today so...

Hercules was renowned for making the world safe by destroying many dangerous monsters. His self-sacrifice obtained him the ascent to the Olympian realms and he was welcomed by the gods.

You can say you dont believe jesus was the son of god, or a did any miracles, but to outright deny his existance ?

I mean, the bible is not the only thing that talks about the guy you know ...

I know there was guy named Jesus (who born that time) but was he the real guy who was son of god or just regular guy? That I meant with my line.

so by the same logic, the world is about 6000 years old.

(this comes by counting up all the days that the bible puts out because god created adam 7 days after creating the world, despite what geology or biology says)

bleargh dude carbon dating has potential pitfalls, e.g. what if something suddenly created a lot of carbon-12, but still contains carbon-14? then it could be 1 year old for all you know, but carbon dating would say "oh shit this is some old shit"

edit: agree with frits.

Just look what korean language bible says about it, should be same kind of text lines there. But yeh title should have been 10-11 instead of 10/11.

Oh and perhaps Ahaz was forced to have sex with older girl.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Korean Royalty marry their children off when they were like even as young as 9 or 10?

Edit: Oh I forgot, they didn't have kids when they were that young :/

Interesting observation!

Well...just because it is recorded in the Bible does not necessitate that it is a reflection of Christian views.

Genesis 19:30-38 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
[NIV at IBS] [International Bible Society] [NIV at Zondervan] [Zondervan]

Lot and His Daughters
30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."

33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

36 So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab [a] ; he is the father of the Moabites of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi [b] ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

Does that mean Christians practice, or condone incest?

I hardly think so.

Actually there are no credible 1st hand sources of the same time mentioning the person. Mostly just mentions of christians and who they worship, texts that are written years after jesus died.

Sorry that I went off topic and I hope I dont start a flamewar by this. Just want you too look it up and see for yourself.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but I'm fairly sure it's ok in christianity (at least back then) for 10 year olds to have sex, as long as they are married. I think marital status was more important than age.

Okay? 10-11 is on the very low end of things, but it isn't unthinkable. Given that he was the king in the making, his diet was probably a lot better than the average person, so I don't see why an early age of puberty wouldn't be possible.

On October 09 2008 07:15 Too_MuchZerg wrote:So Christianity accepts 10-11 years old to have sex? Unless I totally misunderstood what these lines did mean.

To answer this question, an isolated Old Testament verse is not going to tell you what Christians believe. Notice what it says immediately following... "he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God." So that should tell you something right there. Not to mention that kings over the ages have tended to indulge themselves sexually. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here.

As OP says, this was so called internet thing.

Oh and I think there is part where they list some guys as 500-700 years old before they die, there was explanation for that too but can't remember anymore. This way humans reproduced pretty fast pace.

But atheists don't murder especially young boys. They are more open minded.
