I like resources such as Pollster or RealClearPolitics for gauging trends but they're terrible for trying to quickly find where the race stands after significant events. Half the polls in Pollster are using data from 8/30. All the polls posted on 9/6 and 9/7, sampling after or during the important convention speeches, are tilting in McCain's favor.
9/6: 9/3-9/5 Gallup Obama 47 McCain 45
Rasmussen Obama 49 McCain 46
9/4-9/6 Gallup McCain 48 Obama 46
Rasmussen McCain 48 Obama 48
9/7: 9/5-9/6 Zogby McCain 50 Obama 46
9/5-9/7 Gallup LV: McCain 54 Obama 44 RV: McCain 50 Obama 46
Note that this is a predictable movement after such heavy media coverage of the Palin and McCain speeches. Convention bounces tend to fade quickly when the new most important events come up. When there's a debate or any news story of significance in the race the short attention span of America resets the ball game.

you don't think that's at all inappropriate? i just don't think an article you agree with must neccessarily be "really really good".

How? I didn't write it, and I'm not trying to be objective here. It's no secret that I think she's an idiot and anyone who would vote for the republicans in this election is an idiot.
Plus, I just think it was well written. There really isn't any difference between the two besides the lipstick (lol) and the religion.
|
I agree with you Hawk, that article is pretty interesting. Obama might love church just as much but at least he doesn't let his religion cloud his judgment to the point where it just gets stupid.

YOU'RE RIGHT.
i don't agree with Palin, but some characterizations of her do more harm than good to democrats and Obama. I think both sides should stay away from trash-politics.

Palin argued when running for governor that creationism should be taught in public schools, at taxpayers' expense, alongside real science. Antipathy to Darwin for providing an alternative to the creation stories of the Bible and the Quran has also become a feature of Muslim fundamentalism. Saudi Arabia prohibits the study, even in universities, of evolution, Freud and Marx. Malaysia has banned a translation of "The Origin of the Species." Likewise, fundamentalists in Turkey have pressured the government to teach creationism in the public schools. This is just retarded.
Palin has a right to her religious beliefs, as do fundamentalist Muslims who agree with her on so many issues of social policy. None of them has a right, however, to impose their beliefs on others by capturing and deploying the executive power of the state. Reducing abortion to a mere religious belief is also retarded.
Why is this a good article?

Report: Palin tapped travel allowance at home
An analysis of travel statements filed by the governor, now John McCain's Republican running mate, shows she claimed the per diem allowance on 312 occasions when she was home in Wasilla and that she billed taxpayers $43,490 for travel by her husband and children.

obviously the killing people indiscriminately wasn't the angle...
it;s about her intertwining faith with politics, just like the countries the article talks about.
praying for the oil pipeline in alaska... saying iraq is 'god's will'...attempting to ban books deemed offensive... teaching fucking creationism in schools and basically saying piss off to science... abstinence only education..
you don't see a parallel there?

Yeah, even though this election could show a great sign of progress (a black man as president) an atheist would be the most favorable characteristic IMO.
Lol, imagine if a Swedish minister would come out as religious (the same level as american presidents).

How is that retarded? That's exactly what she wants.

While running for Governor of Alaska and asked about the teaching of creationism along with evolution in public school science classes, Palin answered: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both". When interviewed the next day, she stated that while open debate between the two ideas should not be prohibited if it came up in discussion, creationism did not specifically need to be part of the curriculum.[12] -Wikipedia citing: http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/elections/story/8347904p-8243554c.html Comparing this position to antipathy to Darwin, prohibiting the study of evolution, banning the Origin of the Species is retarded.

Oh goody, creationism! Let's teach bullshit that has no factual basis at all!
She's been on record before stating that she wants it. Side by side, by itself--it's all bullshit. Teach that crap in Catholic schools. Tax payers don't desrve to have their money wasted on that crap.

wow are you fucking KIDDING me???? Scientists (the intelligent people) would like place creation of the universe at what, <1% of being the reason we're here? And she wants it taught alongside Darwinism? Fuck sake! Retard ><.

She backpedaled from her statement and she's never directly said she believes in creationism. She said she believes in a "creator" which is pretty vague and can be twisted a million different ways. She basically said more education is a good thing, which is still a terrible answer but not quite as bad as "lets teach creationism"

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said to an outbreak of laughter, shouts and raucous applause from his audience, clearly drawing a connection to Palin's joke even if it's not what Obama meant. "It's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."
McCain's campaign called the comments "offensive and disgraceful" and said Obama owes Palin an apology. Obama's campaign said he wasn't referring to Palin and said the GOP camp was engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." Obama's camp also noted that McCain once used the same phrase to describe Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.
This bitch is amazing she mentions lipstick and bulldogs yet the moment it's used as a counter attack the GOP acts like it is a sexist attack.

Guys, lets leave Palin alone. It must suck going from the woman of the house into a trophy-VPcandidate (McCain likes trophies. See: wife). And by all means, Obama was the one who made the mistake by not tapping Ron Paul for VP.

Obama has been playing "conservative" (I dont mean right wing) politics this whole time. He hasn't done anything really shocking, stay quiet on issues such as Georgia and choosing the middle ground for a lot more.
But yeah the right wing has a habit of playing retarded attacks that somehow seem to work. I mean, come on. Kerry served in nam while Bush was in Texas, and the GOP got people to question's Kerry's patriotism.
