I said about the college part that it is still forced labor, and it is mandatory.
I'm referring to the middle-school and high-school requirements when I rightly call it slavery.

I didn't know about this plan, but as I think about it, I like it alot. It accomplishes several goals at the same time, namely sending more kids to college while getting things done and hopefully establishing an ethic of communal responsibility in the next generation. I wish Obama had been president while I was going to High School

Well, don't whine about it. This is not a thread for complaining.

evandi, you clearly don't know what slavery is. If you don't want to do community service, that's your choice. Nobody is forcing you to, and nobody is taking away your personal liberties if you don't. That's an obvious difference that a narrow-minded person like you must not understand.

Well, I like slavery to. I think we should bring it back. I think there just wasn't enough slavery in the past.
I would like the next generation to understand the value of forced labor.
Perhaps someday we can all be slaves together, but until then we can only hope for such wisdom as candidates like Obama would lend us if only he were president.

Well, BlackJack, I actually failed a class in Highschool because it had a mandatory volunteer work requirement. It made me so sick that I wouldn't do it. (they got rid of the requirement after that particular class)
My point is that this is all going to be mandatory. It is not going to be voluntary, hence it is slavery.

Forced labor that you didn't do? Good job contradicting yourself.
You made a choice, you chose not to do it, you did not receive a passing grade. Where is the slavery?
Is homework slavery? Cause they won't pass you if you don't do that either. So clearly that's "FORCED LABOR" as well.

Umm, I thought the words "requirement: volunteer work" was contradictory.
Its not right to announce public education and then require children to work after demonizing child-labor.

Everything taught in school is supposed to be educational. Work is not education.

You're an idiot for taking a class that had a requirement that you didn't want to do

I have a friend that lived in Jacksonville and they had a volunteer work requirement for high school, big deal. Volunteer work is a great public service, glad it makes you feel "sick" to help others. Fuck you to hell kid.
Maybe you should be bitching at your teacher that made you do it then? Seems like you're bitter about that whole ordeal
And for the last part, countless people have already said it is not mandatory, just pay the extra $4k yourself then.

You're an idiot for thinking that.
It was a required class.
And even if it wasn't, the activities of high-school classes aren't all anounced ahead of time.

Hate it when I take the troll bait... this guy isn't serious he's just trolling. Anyway if he is serious, it just makes Obama look better because if someone this stupid were vehemently for Obama I'd feel sort of ashamed and embarrassed. Now I just feel more anti Mccain because this sort of outrageous slander reminds me of his current campaign.

The requirement is community service, not volunteer work. Everything you do in school is work. You do it for a degree, not because you are forced. They can't force you to learn, and I think you're proof of that.

I'm not a kid.
No, they said we had to volunteer. If that doesn't make you sick, I don't know what should.
My time belongs to me. If I want to volunteer that would have to be voluntary. To twist volunteerism into something that is involuntary servitude is sickening.
I'm sorry, but I know how to read and I'm only taking this from Obama's website.
But you know what? Charles Rangel, that rascal also tries to pass a bill requiring community service every once in a while, so I'm not crazy for reading this correctly.

Oh, god, dude. It was specifically called "volunteer work". They told us to volunteer to make it sound better.
School is about improving ones self. Work does not set you free, thats more along the lines of Nazism.

He also called for some sort of national security force as large as the army. Sounds like a police state. Of course he must mean well. If you say so.
