Also, what kind of forum system does this site use? Apparently not custom-coded if the same code will work on another forum. I don't see any "powered by xyz" text anywhere, and kind of lazy :| someone tell me It's not code, it's just an image link.

At first this was win, but now it sort of makes me want to vomit.

SonuvBob, a static link shows a dynamic image here, depending on the username. Obviously there's some php code that automagically fetches (generates?) a PNG format picture of the user's name. This trick would work on other forums only if they had similar or identical features. And I wanted to know how I could identify such forums. But bleh. I'm starting to think it's stupid and unoriginal if I do it.
|
it has nothing to do with the forum, is what he's saying.
the code is in webpage that hosts the image. that make any sense?
|
The webpage would be this forum. So.
Well, somehow the link (on teamliquid.net) knows my username. But only if I'm logged into teamliquid.net. Apparently someone used this trick successfully on another forum. Which seems to imply that the forum system supports this dynamic image linking, or that this web site implemented such a system separately which also happened to be implemented by this other site.
God I'm fucking killing the joke for anyone else who reads it. Whatever.

no,
if i posted a youtube link here, it imbeds the youtube video. that does not mean the webpage the video is hosted on is teamliquid.
right click and select "View image"
it takes you to another webpage, another domain, to a place unassociated with teamliquid at all. that is where the code is. it is completely unrelated to teamliquid.
and this joke needs to fuckin die anyway
moreover, there's nearly 80 pages of people obviously not reading the thread, what's to say they're going to read this either.

God I'm fucking killing the joke for anyone else who reads it. Whatever. Not really complicated. The image is generated by TL.net regardless of where it's linked from, so the script will always have access to TL sessions and cookies.

BottleAbuser, if you wanted to look stupid, you could just say "that's me", instead of talking like you have any idea how this works, when it's pretty obvious you don't. Not to mention SonuvBob already answered you...
|
the image is in no way generated by tlnet -_-
|
Gene, I'm hoping you know what you're talking about, but I'm not thinking that you do.
There is some function of this website that passes my username to somewhere, otherwise the image wouldn't include my username.
Where is this other domain? How are you sure that it is not in fact hosted on this site?

no
there is a function somewhere that shows you your facebook image and status
that function shows it to you in form of a picture
I could host this picture on photobucket
i could link that photobucket image here
in no way is this at all related to teamliquid.

OH WOW
man im talking about the OP.
my bad, no i have no fuckin clue still how bobs poll is doing its thing
if i had to place a bet on it, i'd be with fonger

The poll is obviously made by SonuvBob and cannot be duplicated outside of TL, except if you have admin rights to insert the apropriate script(you can link it of course, but it will show your TL username, instead of the other site). The image in the OP can be put wherever you want, because it's just a link to myspace and nothing more.

it doesn't have your username in it, it just links to your own facebook. it works like this link. your account name isn't included, it just links you to your own account. as long as you embed this image anywhere, it will show your own picture as long as you are logged in to facebook. this will work on any site.
edit: oh, lol, the poll. well it still works similar to the link i posted above
|
in the instance of the poll, the same thing is going on, but it is indeed generated by TL. Looking at the source of the image, it's coming from TL's database/server i forget the correct term. unless you had access to any particular websites like database/server you would not be able to replicate it to work universally.
