sounds like some great news once we get some testie confirmation. knowing what we've seen of him in the past with limited practice, he's always held his own, even against koreans. i'd love to see him qualify for an invdividual league and duke it out for the foreigners.

I doubt Testie will stay in Korea for more than 9 months. It's not because of him, I don't know how disciplined he can follow a training routine and how strong he is mentally to stay focused. I just think he cannot live in Korea. It will be another world for him, he will feel that way every single day. It may cause him to question his decision again and again. Sooner or later he will ask himself what he's doing in Korea when he could have a good life somewhere else.
He will most likely lose his aim after some time - feeling that he's walking in circles - and then he won't play SC with heart anymore. That will be his return to normal life, back home, finding a job, etc. Or in the worst case he will become another poker-freak...

Everyone needs something where he can go back to at any moment in his life.
I highly doubt Testie can break the rules of life, no matter how hard he tries.

I just hope Testie does good in Korea. I hope he proves all of the negative thoughts wrong. I really like more foreigners in Korea. I wish there was a pro gaming team in Korea that had a majority of foreign players. I like Testie because of his hair. Go Testie!

I just had the thought right now that this is a hoax. When I thought about it, I was glad, but in deep thinking;
beecause at WCG, Testie did absolutely horrible, 1-3'ing in the group (the forfeit win was his only win).
But I suppose he was in the 'group of death'.
So why would CJ jump aboard for another contract offer?

Obviously they aren't basing their offer on the event they were at. He's showed great potential at BWWI/Blizzcon/PGL even if he was loosing those matches which sparked their interest. Remember the match against bisu on Blitz X? If he was giving a good performance then at like 170 apm and practicing intermittently with DOTA and poker, imagine his potential in Korea. I'd imagine that's where they are coming from.

This 1 person deal sucks. Not knowing the language basically makes you totally isolated. They should, at the very least, take 2 at the same time. All the progamers that actually lasted had someone else, AFAIK -- elky/grrr (plus nazgul/etc at diff times), pj/lx, assem/leggionaire (plus some other guys who knew English on Hexatron/POS). I know for a fact it made it a lot easier on them (both game improvement wise and emotionally in general) to have someone to hang out/converse with.

Maybe I'm just a girl, but going alone to a place where no one speaks English would be the most boring, stressful, irritating thing ever.

Yeah, you're a girl.

Testie has said before, on these very forums, that he is more consumed with poker and dota, and not as interested in StarCraft, and you can't blame him, the competitive nature of this game is dwindling fast in the foreign scene. So i really doubt testie would go to Korea to try and become a progamer, and if they invited him, it sounds possible, purely because he played pretty well against the most amazing protoss in the world, and we know his PvT was very capable of dealing with progamers, Midas was probably one of the strongest TvP players in the world last year at WCG, and testie 1:2 vs him, which isn't easy to do at all, if the maps were a little less terran, he might of been able to win. I give him props for that show on Paranoid Android though, very nice game.

In any case i really doubt he will be going to Korea, and if he dodes he might have somewhat of an impact on 2on2/proleague scenee, but he won't win a starleageu or advance far at all in any major leagues. If he goes, best of luck, if he doens't, GL in Sc2 or whatever else you may do with your life.

Also i'm waiting for the Testie post to clear this up. And on a side note, i'm kind of surprised haji didn't post in here yet.

Also as further proof of him not really caring anymore, i direct you to inc's newest blog entry.

Anyways, this is the day of the amazing gamers clashing. Dissy was very nervous and wanted to get the games rolling. I read into this as a good sign. He says he doesnt care or expect much but I know better He just says that so nobody gives him shit if he loses and is more surprised when he wins! He REALLY wanted to do well (and thank god he did!). Nick on the other hand fully didnt expect to do well and I think really didnt care. Although, this event I believe rekindled his spirit as well.

Actually i realized after i posted this that it says it "rekindled his spriit" meaning that if he got offered that, maybe he would take it, who knows?

Hahah what is it with SC players becoming Poker fanatics?

are you asking about why we go that route, or why we're good at it? the second question kind of answers the first, so i'll just go for the 2nd question.+ Show Spoiler [offtopic] +

i'd say it's a pretty simple reason, SC players in general seem to go from computer game to computer game trying to dominate it, become the best, then move on.

a certain personality type is attracted to SC on a serious level, the very competitive type. and dedication and competitiveness is really the trademarks for what you need to succeed at an intermediary level in poker. so it's not so much that there's an SC-Poker link, just that SC players in general try to win everything, except with poker you actually get more than self-satisfaction for winning, you also get the $ that any aging SC player starts to realize they need.

afaik he could play random if he really wanted to... although you're right the coach would probably pressure him to choose one race for ease of practice

hmm on second thought i think i'm confusing race picking with random, i think race picking is allowed (with conditions) but random is not?

i always thought testie was quite a mass gamer and that he only pretended not to care.
somewhere i read about him "prolly the man who has played the most games on earth"

based on that i wouldn't think that he will improve as much to let him join individual leagues. Maybe he is also already too old. Being owned up by a kid like Flash because of superior reactions isn't working as intended. (well white-ra is 29 and still does it.. but that's also not the perfection geared progamer level outside korea)
talent wise he is surpassed by other foreigners like SEn, draco, mondi, lx ... they prolly had more potential to have a shot over there.. but lx has already been there and it seems he wasn't too happy, as his sk teammates didn't practice with him properly thus he could not have the maximum output.. but events like PGL prove that he was in fact very worthy and may have achieved something if stayed longer in progamer heaven.
draco is ambivalent.
mondi prefers to study and play poker.
and SEn.. dunno about his reasoning.. but he also seems to be thinking his chances of succeeding are very low.

but that all set aside (and above all the last wcg o_O o_O o_O)... testie HAS BEEN the one constantly taking games from koreans which shows that he is able to do it. And he has a huge advantage over nearly 99% of all the top level gamers -> a deep knowledge of all 3 races (what will he do in korea?) which might have helped him there by outplaying his opponents.
so what will become of him after a span of the most intensive training available on earth? He will definitely be the best foreigner.. korea changes you.. all skills you have and which might have been a bit rousty or unflexible are refined and i'm very excited how much potential this canadian still has to unleash.

Why would they test him, conclude that he's too slow mechanically, and then turn around some years later to sign him when he's doing worse, through inactivity or what have you? Nonsense
