I wouldn't want to make playing something that happens under pressure or stressful in other ways.

I wouldn't want to make playing something that happens under pressure or stressful in other ways. We'll skype later and I can explain things to you. I do kind of want to do it if I'm able to because of the fact that we're for sure not going to be meeting a couple weeks from now for who knows how long.

That being said I did say we were off earlier, so if Req is busy now then we'll probably still be off this week.

The Librarian that should've killed Amakthos should ideally not be fought (because there will likely be more encounters than just it), but we can almost certainly beat it if we need to. Capabilities (from what we've seen): -Silence Field (~100ft radius) -Casts Hold Person (2nd level), or comparable spell; paralyzes for 1 minute WITH concentration; can cast this every turn, and it can potentially cast it level 3, or even 4 [+1 per level above 2], but every combat turn gives someone a wisdom save to break out: the most important ones in a fight, Rex/Roam, have high WIS mods, so this isn't terrible: ~50% chance to break out is...ok) -~30 damage on a hit (given he autocrit on Amathos for 60, might go up to 40 average), potentially relatively low attack modifier, given it normally attacks beings that are being held down (for auto-hit/crit). -Moves 10ft a turn (20ft if running?) - unknown AC (may be easy to kill if AC if relatively low/not plate) -unknown HP Strategy and Recommendations: 1) Kite; Hold Person is 60 ft cast range, and its silence field is ~100ft, so its presence is easily detectable. As long as the direction from whence it came from is ascertainable, it should be relatively trivial to move to another room before it comes into sight. 2) Run; it's max speed is 20ft a turn, without casting slow person: everyone in this party is at least 2.5x faster. Once out of the range, it has little demonstrated chase potential. 3) Fighting is not optimal but possible. Battle Strategy: Order of usefulness in a fight against the silence field librarian. Amakthos: Is largely useless without verbal component spells. If he had true strike, it would be possible to utilize it, but otherwise, completely neutered without OP warlock cantrips. Can try getting out of range and putting buffs on himself, but otherwise. His choice of non-verbal cantrips (not all of which he's learned) are Minor Illusion (not useful against illusion dispelling), True Strike (potentially useful, but he doesn't have it, also otherwise a trash cantrip unless you prepped it beforehand), Friends (lol), and Thunderclap (EE, he probably doesn't have it, but decent: the librarian silences the massive noise drawback of that cantrip, so it's...damage, even though its better against mass swarms of stuff). Otherwise, hit it with a dagger? Uh... Myself: Neutered in the long haul. Can use Counterspell to block two attempts at Hold Person, which ideally gives us leeway to run away. In a fight, can also use lucky and the shale lance to help take it down. However, after Counterspell and the Shale Lance is used up, I'm a non-factor. Roger: Can melee, has a crossbows. Will be reliable DPS, even without heal spells. Also, artifacts. Artifacts everywhere. Rex: Has spell sniper, and can actually shoot the librarian from out of his range with cantrips: very important, probably becomes our hypothetical main source of DPS in a firefight. Has a bow as well, and can also flaming sphere out of range and walk with it back into range to hit the librarian with it (concentration is not broken by paralysis, from what I can tell from the handbook; only damage [roll v. DC 10 or half damage CON save, whichever is higher], and incapacitation/death). Roam: has high AC, as long as he isn't held (which, with fairly high WIS mod, is more likely), will probably block the attacks from the librarian (given hypothesized low attack mod, given reliance on hold person), and can hit it with double melee pickaxe to the face. In a fight, basic strategy is kite. Keep out of range and have Rex snipe it for as long as possible. (theoretically can kill it like this without getting into range, but LoS and terrain issues makes it unlikely). Once we can no longer kite and are within the silence field, shoot it with bows. Once it's in range to hold person use the 2 turns of no-hold person-casts to kill it in melee, with Roam ideally tanking. First floor is the ideal battleground, as wide open corridors and layout means we could actually kite it nearly permanently. 4) The Book Let's use this as a last resort.

Also, terrain/cover is advantageous to that strategy because Spell Sniper also means Rex ignores anything less than total cover. Eldritch Blast has 120 ft range, so playing at the edge of the silence radius should still allow him to fire some of the time. He also has Guidance from outside the Warlock cantrip list, so on turns where he can't fire, he could just tag someone with a Guidance. On July 22 2015 17:07 Alaric wrote: Wait... 60 HP? Isn't Amakthos Wave's character, a Warlock so d4 for HP rolls? How can he survive that? d6. Nothing in 5E has lower than d6 HD. And the answer is that he wasn't meant to survive it. The dice gods happened to favor him on his death saves, but he was *supposed* to die.

![]() I only remember that i 2nd edition a rule mentioned how if you take over a certain amount (half your HP or 50, can't remember precisely) it'd count as a special kind of crit you'd have to save against or immediatly die from the trauma. I would understand if you answer me with "Just watch the episode, you nitwit!"

From the rules for paralysis in the Appendix of the PHB: A paralyzed creature is incapacitated (see the condition) and can’t move or speak. So anything that breaks on being incapacitated also breaks on being paralyzed.

But still, theoretically speaking, based on what we know, we can take it assuming its Hold Person cast range isn't bonkers.
