New rates won't hit 2017. That would make the bill retroactive which is pretty much illegal. They will be in effect for 18.
I'll probably put a couple thousand more into charity now that it won't go to taxes (thank god they took out the idiotic tax on vested stock options). I already max my 401k, max my IRA and put 30, 40k into investment accounts a year. It's money I don't need.
There's a good chance that this tax bill gets nuked in the next couple years, so I'd recommend people not get too used to it.

The big thing will be that you might get more per pay check due to the withholding changed, but could very well end up owning more due to the withholding changes.

My life focused on dealing with the cities being super pissed off about urban blight caused by inflated property values.

“If we can’t sell this to the American people, we ought to go into another line of work”. - Mitch McConnell
most americans still disapprove of the bill, but this won’t be the last thing Mitch says that is a bold faced lie or false promise.

And to think people cheered her when she got off the plane last time.

I believe Sanders said so during a briefing
i mean this is just flat out wrong the tax bill is for the 2018 tax year

And i am very certain that come 2017 we are going to get a lot of people who claim that they saved in taxes due to the bill that isn't even in effect yet.

Well, obviously thats the fault of the Democratic congress that was elected in 2018. Exactly. Its giving people money now and hoping they blame someone else when they get fucked over by the same bill a few years down the line. Its a con job, plain and simple. And sadly a lot of people are going to fall for it. Frankly, it should be criminal for a government to bait and switch like this.
(and this is all ignoring the utter disgrace that is the healthcare portion, which just lights a bomb under the whole thing).

A follow up to a strangely interesting story I posted earlier.

So now both sides search through every discounted ballot to find one they can contest in their favor?

The democrats should just use the 2018 budget to cut federal assistance to under earning states that also happen to be Red. Say the states just need to work harder and pull themselves up by their boot straps.

I concur it should be criminal; and the republicans should really be sent to jail for it. we need laws to prosecute such horrible behavior; I don' tthink there are any on the books.

I don't know but I doubt it. The circumstances around this one were a little odd. It involves an election worker noticing the ballot and writing a letter. The Democrats lawyers argued it couldn't be even considered since it was too late.

Income given to the rich states trickles down to the poorer states everyone knows that.

After seeing so many red state people claim that CA was getting hand outs from them I am all for this. Make a law that says a state can not get more from the fed than they contribute. Bootstrap it up Wyoming you useless shit

What prevents this election worker from being the one to mess with it?

Nothing I suppose but when they opened the ballot box it was in, apparently it was paper clipped with 2 other "bad" ballots. Apparently he talked with more experienced workers when he was counting it and told others later. If he messed with it that would have had to have been when he was counting it. And the rest of the ballot was straight Republican.
