The city has a very large area so land isn't really at a premium.

Aww guys it was only 108 and humid outside. A pleasant day by Phoenix standards.
And yes, if you can handle the heat it's a great place to live.

God damn. Portland is so fucking stupid.

Portland has also been unreasonably hot this year.

It goes like this:
1. People complain about housing prices 2. Some shitty ass "omg so cultural <3 <3 <3" restaurant or something sells their land so a bunch of condos go up 3. Everyone complains about how dish washers can't afford these condos 4. Everyone fights against these new developments because they can't afford it on the salary of a part time artist part time barista 5. These people then push for ultra cheap housing that ONLY poor people can live in 6. In the end, the new condos still go up, but along the way, they manage to subdue 1 or 2 restaurants being sold by launching obscene campaigns 7. None of their ultra socialist bullshit ever happens because they don't actually know how to do anything but launch hashtag campaigns 8. Prices continue to rise because people keep whining about gentrification 9. Gentrification totally continues, just as fast, because these dipshits won't let condos go up

DC is pretty brutal. I can't afford a nice house with an easy commute. Then again, I'm not sure a nice house with an easy commute exists at any price, but that's another matter.
I even blogged about the struggle of trying to balance housing price with location and other factors recently.

The perils of living in a large metro area, I'm afraid. Especially one with history.
The rather abysmal situation for housing I saw in and around DC was definitely one of the motivating factors for me to not want to go anywhere near that admittedly lucrative line of work. Salaries don't mean much if you have to live like shit in the process.

When Mr. Trump addressed a Boy Scouts jamboree last month in West Virginia, White House aides told Senator Shelley Moore Capito, a Republican from the state whose support was in doubt, that she could only accompany him on Air Force One if she committed to voting for the health care bill. She declined the invitation, noting that she could not commit to voting for a measure she had not seen, according to Republican briefed on the conversation.
Other highlight from that NYT report about Mcconnell

Was more like in the 30s or 40s when I was out there. Still it was bad enough that they had firefighters helping a bunch of elderly that I saw. The local Republicans groups were handing out free waters to everyone in line.

We are in the 80-100 range at least twice a week.

Denver is pretty bad housing price-wise, too. You can't really find entry-level housing for under $300k anymore. Something decent with around 1700 square feet is going to cost closer to $400k in the more affordable suburbs.

And everyone fights subsidized housing unless it's in communities with poor people. Nobody wins.
Edit: The suburbs of Boston have reached like $500K-$700 depending. Newton will cost you close to million for anything worth while.

The British spy behind a salacious “dossier” on President Trump has told the FBI about his sources for the document, according to a report.
Former MI6 agent Christopher Steele authored the 35-page unsubstantiated report published online in January, which alleged that blackmail against Trump was being used by Kremlin officials in an election interference plot.
Investigations into that alleged meddling have been trying to talk to Steele, who has experience in the former Soviet Union and disappeared after his dossier became public, with ABC News reporting that he has now met with the FBI.
He reportedly told investigators about the names of his sources, identified only by letters in the dossier.
It was not immediately clear what other information he gave.
A Washington Post report from earlier this year said that the FBI once planned on paying Steele to continue his work looking into potential Trump-Russia connections after an intermediary brought them his alleged findings after the release of hacked Democratic National Committee emails.
The U.S. intelligence community later jointly found that hack to be part of an effort by Moscow to tilt the election toward Trump.
Steele’s reported meeting with the FBI comes as the agency, the House, the Senate and special counsel Robert Mueller all investigate the alleged meddling, with the spy’s testimony also requested in a Florida defamation suit by a Russian businessman listed in the dossier.

If Trump goes nuts on Twitter over this story I will take it as evidence that the dossier is real.
