At least the effect of the US vote is less ambiguous.

I think it's pretty disingenuous to suggest if Trump was doing precisely the same thing he wouldn't be getting flack from the people being referenced. God forbid either side just admit they were trying to score political cheap shots.

Yup, some people raising money for a recount of the vote in 3 states is a direct threat to our democracy *rolls eyes*

I think all the recounting is some sham (and would wish politics people were that *real* (some canadian ones are!)), but that some Trump supporters believe these two points: 1. Clinton conceding the election to Trump, challenging the claim 1 week after another candidate raised money to challenge it 2 weeks after the election ended 2. Trump saying the election is rigged despite no evidence, repeatedly saying he will not/may not accept the results of the election, will only accept that the election isn't rigged if he wins are equivalent, is insane to me, and is the reason a lot of "Trump" people drive some "anti-Trump" people mad.

It wouldn't be, because the history of the candidates to this point were vastly different. Appealing to the media coverage doesn't address the actual problem with the claims, especially if we've already concluded/seen for ourselves that the media is shit on both sides. I think all the recounting is some sham (and would wish politics people were that *real* (some canadian ones are!)), but that some Trump supporters believe these two points: 1. Sorry, there's a built in handicap for Republicans in my opinion/statement, and it's fair that people wouldn't recognize that as it was phrased. I'm aware and agree they aren't equivalent, but Trump's words weren't some grand threat, the "election is rigged" is such a nebulous statement it's both true and untrue at the same time, and it shouldn't matter because the election process and our populations comprehension of it should be sufficient to render such a charge DOA, but that's not the case, and that's the real problem, not anything Trump said. That, is my problem. That people want to have a conniption fit about Trump, but can't be bothered to actually look at the integrity of our electoral system, and it's functionality in a 21st century America, save should it benefit some party in the moment. + Show Spoiler + We have Republicans countering Hillary's popular vote lead by suggesting millions of illegal residents voted for her and plenty of Democrats mentioning Russian hackers while talking about paper ballots in Michigan and a swirl of stuff about the electoral college, but it's all just a show. Let's take for a moment the idea that Republicans go further and more frequently with their deceptions in order to manipulate voters. The concept from Democrats was "in order to beat them, you must join them" when it came to campaign finance, it should come as no surprise that they thought the same of fear-mongering, lying, and propaganda. It should also come as no surprise that they sucked at it compared to Trump. I think the conversation around who is more mindbogglingly contorted in their observations is wholly unproductive, we would be better served calling them all out for appealing to the lowest common denominators within their respective enclaves. We are letting our politicians (and their sponsors) walk away with our democracy, and we're busy bickering the most banal aspects. There are terrible things happening right now (and have been for a while) what it looks like to me is that people are ready and raring to put it all on Trump, no better than Republicans and Obama. It's way past time that both sides take responsibility for grandly failing us and to accomplish some of the most basic things they claim to agree with us (the American people) on. /rantover

I really hope that ultimately, Clinton and her retainers fade away in the wake of this Trump win. They're still grasping for relevance and they're quite deeply ingrained, but it's a possibility.

You have to squint pretty hard for that to look the same as "they're going to rig the election, I won't accept the result unless I win"

It's "I feel like the system is rigged against me, I want to look into it before I concede if I lose."

Plus I do enjoy the hypocrisy from some Clinton supporters in the face of the electoral upset. Didn't she already concede on election night? As far as I'm concerned, Clinton participating in this recount thing is just for the sake of trying to save her bruised ego.

I do try to differentiate "Clinton" from "Clinton supporters" or "Clinton retainers" since it really is sometimes hard to know what she does and does not actually have direct involvement in. Perhaps that's by design, but nevertheless I use caution there.

(Note I don't actually think this happened, just that it would be funny)

just wooah, as if there's no difference between someone who says he wants to kill a man and someone who already killed a man. the only way to justify this is if you call it a pity recount because people payed for it and they need closure.
