I'm surprised GH hasn't come in yet and given the easy answer of "black people"
But really Black people get screwed over the most over these trade deals. They came to La Detroit and Chicago for the manufacturing jobs and when they dried up in the 70's the communities collapsed economically because the programs were shit for them.
Then because of the lost of tax base we get the basis for the shitty situation in those towns. Not to mention the flat lineing of the value of labor in the country due to the opening of labor in other countries in the market. You don't have to make the argument against free trade deals complex if you don't want to. You introduce a low cost alternative to what you have now and people will go for the low cost alternative.

CLEVELAND — Hillary Clinton’s long national standoff with the press is over.
On the maiden voyage of the general election plane Clinton will share with her press corps for the next two months — a Boeing 737 emblazoned with the campaign’s “H” logo on its wing tips and tail in a scion blue evocative of Air Force One — Clinton greeted the group of close to 40 journalists traveling with her.
“I was just waiting for this moment,” Clinton exclaimed as she walked to the back of the plane, positioning herself in the doorway separating the press from the Secret Service and the staff sections of the plane.
“I’m thrilled,” she said, holding a rolled up sheaf of papers in her hand. "No, really! I wanted to welcome you onto the plane. I think it’s pretty cool, don’t you?”
A hesitant press corps, out of practice with casual interactions with the Democratic nominee, paused before responding. “You’re supposed to say yes,” she said.
Clinton planned to hold a more official gaggle and answer questions aboard the plane later in the day, she said. But to relieve some of the mounting tension with the press that she has studiously avoided for the past month as she has focused on raising money at high-dollar fundraisers, she came to say a simple hello.

Roger Ailes hired Peter Thiel's gawker lawyer to go after Sherman.
Los Angeles based attorney Charles Harder is a busy man. First, he represented Hulk Hogan and won a $140 million defamation suit which resulted in Gawker‘s demise. Then, he was hired by Melania Trump and filed a $150 million lawsuit against The Daily Mail which ultimately led them to retract a story. Now, the libel lawyer has been retained by former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes to represent him in possible legal action against Gabriel Sherman, a reporter for New York Magazine, LawNewz.com has confirmed.
“New York Media and Gabriel Sherman were contacted by Charles Harder on behalf of Roger and Elizabeth Ailes, asking that we preserve documents related to the Ailes, for a possible defamation claim. The letter sent by Harder was not informative as to the substance of their objections to the reporting. Sherman’s work is and has been carefully reported,” Lauren Starke, a spokesperson for NY Mag said in a statement to LawNewz.com.
Sherman is best known for his series of articles accusing Roger Ailes of sexually harassing multiple woman. He’s been a constant thorn in the side of Fox News ever since publishing Ailes’ unauthorized biography. The network even reportedly had a massive opposition research file on Sherman. In the journalism world, he’s been praised for exposing the alleged culture of sexual discrimination at Fox News.
Ailes reportedly hired Harder just days after his two other attorneys stepped up their attacks on Sherman. “Gabe Sherman is a virus, and is too small to exist on his own, and has obviously attached himself to the Ailes family to try to suck the life out of them,” Mark Mukasey, who is representing Ailes in a sexual harassment case, said in an interview with The Daily Beast. .
It is not clear if Harder will file a lawsuit against New York Magazine or Sherman. However, Harder has been in contact with the magazine.

Except it's proven Ailes sexually harassed women... how would this lawsuit work?

The idea isn't necessarily to win. The idea is to muddy the waters and intimidate your enemies. Truth may yet prevail, but before that there will be some sternly worded press releases and allegations of lying.
|
It's also a "you've decided to bother me? I'm going to bother you" reaction from Ailes. He's hated Sherman's guts for years because of his journalistic work on him, and he basically wants to make his life as difficult as possible.

"I'm rich and can afford this lawsuit. Your news paper my not be able to. Especially if it's backed by billionaire that also doesn't like your paper."
We will see how it pans out, but New York magazine is far from the daily mail and gawker.

Soaring ocean temperature is 'greatest hidden challenge of our generation
The soaring temperature of the oceans is the “greatest hidden challenge of our generation” that is altering the make-up of marine species, shrinking fishing areas and starting to spread disease to humans, according to the most comprehensive analysis yet of ocean warming.
The oceans have already sucked up an enormous amount of heat due to escalating greenhouse gas emissions, affecting marine species from microbes to whales, according to an International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) report involving the work of 80 scientists from a dozen countries.
The profound changes underway in the oceans are starting to impact people, the report states. “Due to a domino effect, key human sectors are at threat, especially fisheries, aquaculture, coastal risk management, health and coastal tourism.”
Dan Laffoley, IUCN marine adviser and one of the report’s lead authors, said: “What we are seeing now is running well ahead of what we can cope with. The overall outlook is pretty gloomy.
“We perhaps haven’t realised the gross effect we are having on the oceans, we don’t appreciate what they do for us. We are locking ourselves into a future where a lot of the poorer people in the world will miss out.”
The scale of warming in the ocean, which covers around 70% of the planet, is “truly staggering”, the report states. The upper few metres of ocean have warmed by around 0.13C a decade since the start of the 20th century, with a 1-4C increase in global ocean warming by the end of this century. Source
Out of curiosity, is there anyone in this thread who either doesn't believe in global warming/climate change, or believes that humans are not (or barely) responsible?

I think you're more likely to find people who believe its anthropogenic but not much we can do to stop developing countries from developing so there's no reason for developed countries to act.

I agree that Detroit and Chicago are an absolute mess but what about Pittsburgh? "The steel city" but fuckall steel is still made there.Reinvented itself and is high on Americas most desirable cities list. The problems with Detroit and Chicago go far beyond manufacturing jobs being automated or offshored, it's a culture thing.
Anyway just seen the latest news clip of Clinton, the worst coughing fit yet.Something is seriously wrong with this woman. Will she be able to last through the debates without another long attack?

I'd assume so, we even have some 9/11 truthers around here I'd be sincerely surprised to find truthers. Now myself, I disagree with the aspects of climate alarmism (couldn't resist) which predict catastrophic irreversible harm if huge international projects limiting carbon dioxide emissions are not taken in the next 20 years or whatever.
I'm perfectly fine being wrong as the science advances and less of the CRU and hiatus/no-hiatus events take place. I cannot overestimate the reassurance that, while promoting his Oscar-winning documentary, future Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore said the point of no return passed earlier this year.

No, we have legit truthers. Like jet fuel can't melt blah blah. It adds much needed context to the rest of their posts.

Er, there's two different stories that people are conflating a bit about the Gawker lawyer. Aile's lawsuit is against the Boston Globe about Gabriel Sherman.
The Daily Mail has already retracted a story about Melania Trump in response to the threat of 150$ million suit from the same lawyer, apparently, on behalf of Melania Trump.
I remember seeing polls that put the % of US truthers at around 30% back at the height of the Bush presidency in '07-08.

A voter initiative to legalize recreational marijuana will be on the November ballot in Arizona. The state’s Supreme Court last week rejected a final legal challenge to the measure.
A lower court judge had thrown out the challenge, saying the group called Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy didn’t have a right to sue.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Jo Lynn Gentry’s ruling went on to reject all of the reasons opponents laid out for keeping the initiative off the ballot.
The opponents said initiative backers used illegal and unconstitutional “bait-and-switch tactics” and that the initiative violates Arizona’s statutes in three ways. They include a misleading 100-word summary that leaves out important provisions, an “incoherent” text and title that obscures the extent of its impact on other laws, and a failure to provide a legal funding mechanism.
The high court sidestepped the right-to-sue argument, with Chief Justice Scott Bales calling Gentry’s reliance on a 2015 rewrite of a law “murky at best, and rather than wade into those waters, we turn to the merits.”
Bales went on to affirm Gentry’s ruling rejecting the merits of the opponents’ lawsuit, saying the summary substantially complied with the law’s requirements for initiatives.
The ruling means that Proposition 205 is on November’s general election ballot.
Four other states will also have recreational marijuana initiatives on their ballots, including California, Massachusetts, Maine, and Nevada.
Voters in Florida, Montana, North Dakota and Arkansas will vote on medical marijuana.
Under the measure, adults 21 and older could carry up to one ounce of marijuana and consume it privately. Adults could also cultivate up to six marijuana plants in an enclosed space and possess the marijuana produced by the plants. No more than a dozen plants would be allowed in a single residence.
The system would regulate pot in a way proponents say is similar to alcohol, with a 15 percent tax on all retail marijuana sales. Most of the new state revenue would go to Arizona public schools and education programs.
