I've seen easily a dozen stories about Sikhs being attacked due to being mistaken for muslims this year. Yet I don't recall seeing news stories about actual muslims being attacked in the US this year. Where does this turban = terrorist thing come from?

There've been quite a few attacks on muslims too; it's just less news-getting than the bigoted idiots who can't even properly identify the object of their bigotry. I'm not sure why the idiots don't learn to identify; I guess they just figure they look middle-eastern-ish so they go after them.

The long-classified pages detailing alleged ties of the Saudi Arabian government to the 9/11 hijackers will be released by Congress as early as Friday, sources told CNN Thursday. Known as the "28 pages," the secret document was part of a 2002 congressional investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks and has been classified since the report's completion. It turns out there are actually 29 pages, sources said. Sources said there are still some procedural steps that need to be taken before the release, which members of both parties in Congress and family members of victims have been seeking for years. "This is great news," said Jerry Goldman, a lawyer who represents families of victims in a class-action suit, seeking to sue Saudi Arabia. "The families are happy just as the American people should be happy that information that has been kept hidden for well over a decade is finally coming to light." Former Senator Bob Graham, who chaired the committee that carried out the investigation and has been pushing the White House to release the pages, said Thursday he was "very pleased" by the news. "It is going to increase the questioning of the Saudis' role supporting the hijackers," Graham told CNN. "I think of this almost as the 28 pages are sort of the cork in the wine bottle. And once it's out, hopefully the rest of the wine itself will start to pour out." Graham added, "Would the U.S. government have kept information that was just speculation away from American people for 14 years if somebody didn't think it was going to make a difference?" Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said the report will be posted on line soon. Source

meanwhile, the white house trolls pence: The White House's top spokesman reacted to the news that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence will be Donald Trump's running mate by applauding Pence's decision to accept more federal money for Medicaid in his state under Obamacare. "I'm not sure to what extent President Obama has had a chance to interact with Gov. Pence," Earnest told reporters Thursday when asked what Obama thought about Trump's reported pick. "I know Gov. Pence has done some important work to expand Medicaid in his state… but I will leave it to the candidates to decide who would best complement their skills." Source

To me, it signals that he sees this as a race of turnout. In a way, playing the general election as a midterm election. I think he and whoever else is advising him are not appreciating how much time Democrats have to ice things over with the Bernie supporters and to just generally recover from the Comey stuff. I think Clinton will win, with room to spare, but not as much as I thought before. I think Clinton will manage to reach people in the middle, while still keeping her core thanks to Bernie. I think Bernie will be a key player in preventing Trump's low turnout strategy from working. i don't think bernie supporters will flock to hrc. they saw his endorsement as a sellout from what I see, i suspect a majority will sit this election out. hrc represents everything bernie stood against so there is a real visceral reaction from his supporters against her.

They won't all, but many of them are independents or otherwise that typically don't vote anyway. I think that among the voters, Bernie will be able to get enough. Not a ton, but enough. And let's not forget Obama and many others. We're at the lowest point in Clinton's numbers and Trump is focusing on increasing his turnout rather than eroding her support. I think we'll be good.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/clinton_favorableunfavorable-1131.html http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/trump_favorableunfavorable-5493.html Notice the trend lines. Clinton is on a clear down-trend and has been since she started the campaign. Trump was on a slight upward trend and seems to have basically leveled off for the last 6 months. If this is a race to the bottom, it looks like Trump is actually winning.

I think we'll be good. Clinton is favored but far from guaranteed victory. My gut feeling says it's about 70% chance of a Clinton victory. FiveThirtyEight puts it at a little lower than that, at about 2/3 right now - a drop from the 80% before.

It surely will be a great fun, but I'm just afraid, that if the current trend set by trump and likes continues, soon the twitch chat will be how politcal conversation looks like and the candidates will cater to that.
