A Cleveland County woman says she called a sheriff's deputy for help, but when he arrived at her home, he shot and killed her dog without provocation.
Tara Harmon said she called 911 because of a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. She told Eyewitness News 5’s Carla Wade that when the deputy arrived, she asked him to wait a few minutes before going into her back bedroom so that she could put away her two dogs.
Harmon said the officer did not wait and when her 6-year-old dog Sophie came near the deputy, he pulled his weapon and shot and killed the dog. Sophie was a female blue heeler who had just recently had puppies.
Harmon said the bullet ricocheted off the ground and went through a wall in her kitchen. Her small children and elderly mother were in a room about 10 feet away.
A spokesperson for the Cleveland County Sheriffs Office said they are investigating.

maybe he didn't like dogs, idk. i dont see why we should be discussing this, though. he obviously made a stupid mistake and that's the end of that.

It's hard to say, given that we only heard one side of the story.

Stupid cop. Cops that have nervous trigger fingers shouldn't be cops in the first place.
If that happened to me with the cop shooting my dog i would probably take his gun and badge and force it down his throat while making mashed potatoes of his crotch!

What a senseless post. If you tried that on a cop with a loaded gun you would end up like the dog as well...

I would take his gun before he would have the reaction time to shoot. Besides that was just a post about how i would feel if that happened to me. You don't have to go all einstein on me dude.

Why shouldn't we discuss incompetent police? I don't know, maybe because a policeman/woman who draws and shoots for no reason is a really dangerous thing to exist?

Stupid cop made a stupid decision and probably won't be punished at all for it.
Move along...

i think we can all agree that cops like these should not be cops in the first place. there, discussion over, no?

also, the cop probably had his own reasons for it. frankly I'm amazed people are so quick to jump to "incompetent cop"

Looks like you shouldn't call the cops in America.

I just looked up how the 'blue heeler' looks on google. I think the cop thought it's a wolf or something. Totally legitimate self defense I think.

Your reaction speed and martial artZ skills are not relevant to whether or not it would be senseless. The cop did something incredibly stupid, but you achieve nothing by attempting to beat him up for it .

I wonder if the police-related incidents really this common in the US, or is it more a case of most individual incidents over a huge population getting a lot of media attention. Similar topics seem to be fairly common on TL at least, as well as few actual news sites I read.
Still, some of them seem so weird and random that it makes me wonder what kind of education and tests are applied before someone is allowed to join the police force and during their stay on the force.

I think there should be a more thorough process in the selection of our armed professionals, and an even stricter guideline of discipline. After all, not only are they paid by our taxes, they also have armed power that they can abuse.
My suggestions: 1. Thorough physical test 2. Thorough psychological test 3. Removal from office of any use of gun outside those defined by the police guideline. 4. Disqualification of all benefits. 5. Jail time.
That will deter some idiocy from the police officers.

LOL. Does this look like a wolf to you?

That dog doesn't seem to be even that big. Not that you should "defend" yourself with a gun. But who knows.

Not really much to say.
If this is all the facts, sucks, fire him. It's probably not, though. There's almost certainly more to it.

Dude are you serious? Yeah a wild wolf just suddenly ran out of her house...

Well infact i would achieve alot by attempting to beat him up for it. I would take sweet revenge for my dog and it would feel so good to punish him for it.

This feels like one side of the story... what if the dog actually tried jumping at the policeman?
I think it must've been a not-so-peaceful dog, otherwise why would she want to put him away?
|
If it came charging at me, I'd shoot it. It's self defense.
And if you were stupid enough to charge at a cop in rage, you'd end up dead too.
|
Sad to know it had puppies, but cops don't go around killing people's dogs for no reason. I'm pretty sure that the dog was barking/attacking (probably protecting his owner or the puppies), and the officer decided it was reason enough to take it out.
Heck if I had a gun and a dog was attacking me, I'd use it. Really stupid to think that the dog was just walking around and the cop went "FUCK! BANG! BANG!".

Then he didn't have to shoot the dog. If the dog was hostile then the policemen probably thought: "Well i have a gun..... i'll just make it easy on myself".
Instead he could of tried to calm it down or kick it or shout at the owner of the dog so she could of come and calmed it down.

What kind of pussy shoots a dog like that.

If someone killed my dog, I would kill them. I'm not even lying, my dog is one of the very few things that I actually love.
