So, im sure there's very few people in the Starcraft community who doesn't know who TotalBiscuit is by now.
In terms of Starcraft, we know him from things such asThe SHOUTcraft Invitational/1 through 4, a crazyPro Random Monobattles Tournament , commentating events such as Dreamhack, several different IEM-events and most recently, a personal sponsorship of BlinG and several other quite notable things + the vast amount of non-starcraft related content/achievements.
By now, the Starcraft community and scene is notorious for being hard to penetrate for both players and for content providers who happened to switch from games that didn't happen to be Warcraft 3 or Broodwar. We're a bunch of elitists, lets face it . Note that this might be a generalization and might not be true for you reading this, but as a whole, I think it's safe to assume that we as a community has come off like that. I think this has been specially true for TotalBiscuit - On the recieving end of said elitism and aggression, mind you.
In his latest video, TotalBiscuit describes in 20 minutes what his life has been like for the past 7 years and his plans for the future. Not as as a content producer or caster, but as a person. I thought it was quite enlightening and it felt like it completed my picture of the man behind the microphone. In the video linked below, he explains about how he got involved with content, getting involved with The Game Station/Husky and how gaming has impacted his personal life through some pretty steep ups and downs with a wife and stepson 6000 miles away. If you are a viewer of his content in any form or the other, or even if you hate the guys products, I recommend you to watch this video.
It's great to see TB getting some personal peace now. He works so hard for people in many of the gaming communities as well as new developers. So thank you TB.
I've been a fan of TB for years now, ever since the old days of WCRadio, and I was certainly thrilled when I saw him take interest in the StarCraft community. Best of luck in the future!
Even though I don't know him personally at all, I've grown to appreciate greatly what I perceive as his personality/off stage character. TB is a genuine stand up guy, much respect and best wishes!
TB is too dangerous an influence to be let into America. He will revitalise tophats and monocles, and before you know it, Americans will be spelling "Aluminium" and "Colour" again.
TotalBiscuit has nothing but respect from me and will always have that respect. He has gone through more than I ever could imagine going through and I don't know how he has done it. Best of luck in everything he does in the future.
This video will got through to me, as somebody who enjoyed his wtf series immensely before he became a caster, and then kept enjoying his casting it's really big contrast to hear him talk about what his life has been like the past few years.
Having gone through eerily similar experiences in my life, I really look forward to things going well for him.

As someone who knew of TB before I started playing SC 2. I know that at this point everybody here loves him. The dispute with Incontrol gave him some haters, but after a while everyone saw that wasn't the case even Incontrol (Don't take this as an attack I love incontrol, but it's a fact)
I knew most of this but still brought a tear to my eye. My wife is American however I can barely relate. I met her playing LOTRO and long distance is hard but luckily she was able to come live with me here in UK and it all happened within 12 months. For TB and Jen's relationship to survive over so many years is a testament to both of their characters. I am so happy for you both. gl with the rest of your lives.
ps TB's wife has the cutest voice ever so here is hoping that over time Jen also starts churning out more content on her stream WOW/Diablo and ofc GW2??

I know TB reads TL, so I hope he'll see the support of his fans or simply people who respect him here. I don't watch much of his content, but he is a stand up guy and this video just multiplied my respect for him a massive amount. Kudos to TB for having the guts to put that out on the internet (and I'm going to have to assume Gemma for being ok with it) and good luck over in the US.
Now that he doesn't have these issues to deal with, maybe he will have more time available, and can spend some of it learning about one of the games he commentates so his casting will improve.
Been a fan since he uploaded that first Cataclysm video of the Worgen starter area. He made a Red Dwarf reference... I immediately subbed to his channel. He's also the reason I bought Magicka. Big fan of his work, I know how much long distance can suck, I just had a year of it. Hope it all works out for him in the US.
and of course... there's the minor detail that he's now able to go to MLG's if he wants to... Sundance has said he'd love to work with him after all. TB - Day[9] casting at MLG
Congratulations to TB and his family. I saw the story when it was first posted on TL a while after I was first acquianted with him due to his dreamhack casting. Hadn't heard of him before but I preferred his casting over even Day9 that day. He's done a lot for the community and I can't imagine how the past five years must've been like. Glad to see he's able to return to his family.
Wow, within about 20 minutes, TB has gone from someone i've respected to being admired for sticking to something for that for such a length of time. Gl in the US!
Glad to see he's almost finally through his hardships. TB got me into Starcraft almost a year ago, ironically through the custom game Star Battle. He brought me my first awesome macro game (Socke vs. Morrow, I believe it was in a Bo7), gave me horrible Terran advice in his I Suck at Starcraft 2 series (fortunately, I didn't play terran) and gave me countless hours of laughs, thought-inducing opinion videos, awesome game reviews (joking, first impressions) and general awesomeness.
TB's had my respect from day 1. His 'reports' so to speak were a lot different from others as mentioned in OP's video that grabbed me from the beginning. My utmost respect and best of luck to him and his family from now on. I'm glad he's found his way out.
I had only seen a bit of his stuff before now. But with his recent appearance on SoTG and this video, I have to say he seems like a pretty awesome guy. Gonna have to go through and watch his stuff now.
I've followed the story of TotalBiscuit for a long time, ever since he got started. I just want to say, TB, you are an amazing person for your determination and perseverance. You are an inspiration for me - good luck with your journey, and lead a happy life!
I remember watching the Episode yesterday with a few hundred comments. After watching it had almost 1000. And now, in about a day 6000 comments? That shows how much the people appreciate to get to know the man behind the mic. I don´t have a YT account but thought about making one just to comment myself.
The story itself was quite good known as he posted it on TL, but in this detail and with his own voice its completely different. He wasn´t the nicest person around by just reading his post here or on twitter/reddit. But that´s a) understandable regarding his situation and b) completely irrelevant if I don´t get to know him personally. I was never so entertained by any YT caster (or commentator at live events) so I really appreciated everything he did.
Good luck in America and with your family. (And thanks to Huskey for helping him)
He is a very smart guy with extreme experience with games, thats why he is so interesting to listen to. I know some people dont like his casting in SC2 as they think he dont know the game as well, but this guy plays TONS of games. So my hat off to him, i think he is the coolest guy in the business without a question. He is the voice for the gaming community. When he speaks, the world listens. Everyone from developers to gamers.
My only qualm with TB is that his production values and quality of content is so good that it has rendered me unable to watch most other YouTube channels of any description.
Best of luck to TB, I was partially aware of the situation before but this made it even clearer. Whether teh americaz can handle such a cynical brit, however, is a topic of its own.
i personally don't know much about TotalBiscuit as an sc2 caster, but i have had an rather disheartening experience when i played the WotLK beta test with him (mostly poor manners). From that ive strongly had a clear, yet not hostile, dislike towards him, but am hoping that his sc2 casting will rekindle that past.

sorry my english not the best, and no disrespect
I have this with some people aswell, but you gotta remember. Sometimes people just have a bad day, or they're just pissed off at something or they're just in a mood to be bad mannered while normally they may be very nice people. But because his name is so famous you remember that experience.

yes, i agree with you exactly, for this very reason i attempt to forget the past and simply enjoy his sc2 casting career
Sad that he is leaving the UK, truly one of the best thing to happen to gaming journalism. It's rare to find such an honest and more dedicated person to video games and eSports and I hope he can continue to work like he does with even better circumstances for himself and his family in the US.
Haven't known about him before he casted Starcraft 2, but I imediately liked his style. Then I saw his Video on the ME3 day one dlc and a few others and agreed with a lot of his points and concerns. I hold his oppinion in high respect and have a lot of respect for him as a person too. His backstory is touching and I'm really happy everything worked out in the end. Best of luck TB and keep beeing awesome!
TB i was never a huge fan, I definitely respected you, you have done a lot for the community and you have brought a lot of fun to the community. People like you, Husky, HD, EonShikeno, Force, etc. are all necessary for the community to bring the new youtube people in to the community. You have played a huge role in this community. I think you need a rest, a great time to recharge your soul batteries. Now its time to bring those games from death to life. Also play some Touhou cuz i think its awesome if you could get people into it .
TB is a legend and puts so much hardwork into content and the community - so much of which goes underappreciated and taken for granted. It's fantastic things are starting to look up for him and I wish him the best of luck across the pond!

Here is me not giving a flying fuck, yet hoping that he can get his arse out of our beautiful United Kingdom and to the vile united states where he clearly belongs, his false and boring stereotypes are an insult to us real British people and those of us with the displeasure of knowing his existence will be glad to rid him of our country.

Watch the video and that will answer your question
I didn't know about any of this going on but I'm really glad to hear things are working for the better. This was really uplifting to listen to and I wish only the best for TB going forward. He has been one of my enjoyments to listen to play various games and of course I've always enjoyed his casting. Welcome (back) to the us sir, may it work out for you!
Seems to be a man of his word. I particularly like his unvarnished take on some things that the popular opinion is heavily against. We'll have these whines about casters, and he'll jump in and say that the whines would make casters have to be silent full-cast. The stuff he said in the executives interview wasn't cute, it wasn't flowery, it was raw. Need more of that in the scene.
Am I the only one that feels like he just told the world, "My wife was unfaithful"? I wonder how his wife feels about having their "trust issues" aired out on the internets for the sole purpose of creating and maintaining his livelihood (aka e-fame).
I've never particularly liked or disliked TB, but after listening to the 18 minute long story of his marriage troubles and how he's actually only seen his wife and stepchild a hand full of times.... I just feel sorry for him. He was right about one thing for sure, him, his wife, and especially the kid are going to have a lot of adjusting to do. Hopefully it will all work out for the best.

I remember watching the Warhammer: Spacemarine WTF with my girlfriend and she was like "This is the first time it sounds to me as if he is really having FUN with what he's doing". To a lot of people, including myself, who mostly just watched your WTF and some other series I never had any idea why you put out so much content and who the man behind all this stuff actually is.
Now I feel as if I'm knowing a little bit more and... you gained a lot of respect over here. Please keep it up, your channel is one of the bastions in the internet where I feel being treated by someone who is honest with his opinion. =)

Eh what? If you can't understand why there is trust issues living apart for several years you can't have been in many relationships. Also you assume the trust issues comes from his part and not the other way around (or both). If you live such relationship and don't have any issues you are very lucky. First, my wife and I will be celebrating our 6th anniversary in 3 weeks. I met her hours before I drove over 3,000 miles from Texas to Alaska where I was to be stationed in the military. We maintained 2 years worth of long distance relationship (Alaska > Texas) and I'll count myself in the "lucky" category.
How he runs his business is his business, but he could have addressed all of the content related issues and living situation without telling the world about their "trust issues". So, to me, it just comes off as a stunt to keep the e-drama masses engaged.
Still wish him the best of luck. It's not an easy thing that they are trying to do.

To you it looks like that because if you said that, that's why you would do it. Therefor that's what you assume.

Releasing a very personal video of yourself, spilling your guts out to the public, causes a minority of trolls and idiots to assume and judge.Go figure.Maybe you should consider taking some PR lessons from your friend Husky after all. Anyways, all the best to you and your family.
while that reply wasn't really nice, it kind of fits though, doesn't it? does anyone really believe he pre-scripted this entire talk and thought about "hummm how could i make this generate drama?" i certainly don't. And the fact of the matter is, if someone opens up and you basically offend him by naming him a drama queen for it, you are somewhat of an ass. Adding to that all the other stuff that this video has generated (his wife getting massive amounts of emails telling her she was lucky that TB "rescued" her, which comes close to calling her incompetent, and well just go read the youtube comments, there's some gems in there too), and all the hate he gets all the time for anything he does by some idiots, one can understand an occasional slip of temper.
Anyhow, i'd prefer if everyone would stop telling him how to behave now, let the mods handle it. i remember he mentioned somewhere that he is aware of his shortfalls in PR, so no need to lecture him about it, it'll just get worse from that and this thread will be closed rather soon then i assume.

Why are people confused? Seems like a fairly reasonable assessment of his intelligence. Only someone ridiculously stupid (or young, I guess) could go from "having a long distance relationship contains trust issues and doubt" (which I imagine is obvious to everyone who's had one and others can imagine) to draw the conclusion "you're saying your wife is unfaithful for the sole purpose of creating e-drama."

i took trust issues to mean potentially cheating. which given the circumstances is perfectly human for both people in the relationship and thus pretty obvious.

Yeah, well that is fine. Maybe someone is being stupid and ignorant, although I don't think that he was being aggressive about it at all, and how does TB respond? Calls him a cunt? WHAT THE FUCK?
Completely inappropriate, and someone of his status in the eSport community should realize that. He has no right to speak to anybody like that, just like the rest of us, and the fact that he seems to totally disregard that and be completely entitled. Again just... WHAT THE FUCK.
LOL that's a typical TB response to someone saying something like that. And honestly if someone responded like that to me I would probably say something along the exact same lines
I don't know man I think you kind of forfeit the right to tell someone to not discuss the things you put in a public internet video blog thing, or call them stupid cunts because you don't like their opinion. He's the one who put it out there
Pretty sad how people can go an pick on TB just after he shared such an intimate personal story. Loved the video, best of luck in the US to you and your family! : )
I have to say that I agree with you Cyde. People on the internet will judge anything at the drop of a hat, and after being in the spotlight for a while like he has been, and even after 2500+ posts on this website, he should have seen that coming.
Does that make it any less painful or irritating? No, it doesnt, but you cant be a major contributor to the game and the scene and still make comments like that. I don't really care about the comment that much but it does make me a little less of a fan. Sure I'll still watch your shows/ casts but I can't get 100% behind a person who will retaliate like that against a community that has given him an awful lot.

He's not posting in the "esport community" (whatever that is), he's posting in the TL community. And in the TL community, you don't get to be a dick towards people that actually contribute to the community, and they very much do get to be a dick towards you if you piss them off.

He's not posting in the "esport community" (whatever that is), he's posting in the TL community. And in the TL community, you don't get to be a dick towards people that actually contribute to the community, and they very much do get to be a dick towards you if you piss them off.
Dear god people WTF. This is a happy thing for TB and his wife that has been an ongoing thing in his entire existence for far too long and you decide to nitpick and ruin it? WHY? Are you really that desperate to suck every happy moment from him?
Good on you TB and I'm happy that you can finally be together again. Ignore the haters please =/

People on the Internet are trash. When you talk to another with any kind of anonymity they become a completely different person to their real life persona where there are consequences for being a gigantic twat.
That said totalbiscuit has the worst habit of wasting time on replying to these people. it's truly troubling to say the least. Best way to deal with anti fans is the day9 way. Ignore them, energize those who have your back and then all a sudden all have are fans. Everybody else just becomes meaningless buzz, a blurr on a web page. It's the moment you reply to them that they get a soap box to get their message out.
I would never have read some of these messages if I had not seen tb reply to them. It is that simple.
He calls idiots in twitter all the time, not sure why you people are acting like he did something inappropriate. I for one can't stand Day9's overly positive, let's hug all each other yadda yadda. At least I get to read some of the most retarded comments ever when TB replies to them 'cause I usually just skip 'em.

Ohhh, I see, somehow he is better than the rest of us. Okay. That makes perfect sense.
No wait it doesn't. The other person was not attacking him, and even if he was, TB, as a figurehead in the community and as an adult shouldn't respond like that.
EDIT: And if anything, his position here should make him act BETTER than that, not get away with it. If the President of the US called someone a cunt, it wouldn't be alright, because of his position. Once you assume a place of importance, you have to be more responsible. Clearly (since this isn't the first instance of this), TB doesn't realize this and many people don't really seem to care.

If you think what he said is out of order report him or PM a mod. TB's been banned before he'll be banned again I'm sure, that's not going to change his outspoken attitute when attacking Blizzard over tournament fees or biting back at a poster trying to press his buttons. I for one think this is fine, he has contributed loads to gaming and SC2 specifically, and genuinely has a passion for it which comes across in his work; this doesn't absolve him from punishment for behaving badly but when his is embedding in the community to the extent that he is he has a right to tell someone to fuck off when they make comments such as these.
TB's great and it was insightful to hear his situation over the past years, I hope things work out for him and the vid keep on rolling in. But, for the love of god, TB, don't lose your accent.

This discussion is futile. TB have a long history of responding to trolls and stupid people, often by responding at their level. As much as TB have to accept there will always be those kinds of comments, the viewers have to accept TB will respond to them as well.
Buncha fuckin crybabies in here. "oooh he's being rude, esports community, responsibility blah blah blah". Fuck off. Everyone in the community love or hate knows TB or at least the majority does so it's not about publicity. Not really, public figures are subject to criticism that others are not.
I agree what he said was rude, but you really need to control yourself - you are acting immature. Again, if you didn't want to make it a deal, then you shouldn't have put it out on video.
I'd just like to wish TB the best of luck. Having to deal with all the hardships in your life and still become as successful and popular as you are now is actually quite inspiring. I didn't know who you were until I started watching 'I Suck at Starcraft'. Whilst I wasn't sure about your casting style initially, now I definitely enjoy listening to all your content.
I'm looking forward to even more awesome content now that you're ostensibly in a much happier place in your personal life.

I'm not crying, nor did I say that you were killing eSports. You are creating somebody in your head that you despise and then attacking them, not me. Again, you are acting like a child, and I am saying this from a subjective standpoint. If I were to show this whole conversation to someone who had no idea who you are, they would think you are being quite the little whiner.
I am appreciative of all that you have done for eSports, and yes for sure your hundred bajillion subscribers shows more promise for eSports than my eight, but how does that give you a right to be a dick? You think that calling someone a cunt, not maybe.... clearing up their fuddled opinions (rofl) is a better way of handling it? If someone came up to you in real life and said that they thought, I don't know, you were a pedophile, you would rather PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE than clear it up? Real mature, man.
Oh and because you have more publicity doesn't mean that you're opinions are somehow better than mine. This stupid logical fallacy is applied by pro-gamers or commentators all the time, that you have to be better than them to criticize them. Lmao. Tell me exactly, if this philosophy held true, how would anyone train Usain Bolt?
By the way, I just want to say I have no personal thing against you; I don't hate your casts, but I certainly am no fanboy, obviously. You just kind of piss me off, sometimes.
EDIT:
The reason why people don't care is because of this little thing called "free speech". You speak of entitlement when you're here dropping the f-bomb and responding to others in a condescending manner. What makes you entitled to that?
Yeah, the difference is, free speech doesn't mean everything you can say you should say. Shall I bring up... the KKK? And before someone says, "OHYMGOD YOU ARE COMPARING TB TO TEH KAYKAYKAY??!?" no I am not. I am using it as an example. Again, how would you react if Obama came out and called Romney a cunt? He, as a human being, has alllll the rights in the world to say that, but he doesn't. Once you bring yourself up to the level that TB has come to, you have to take on more responsibility.
As for being condescending... sorry about that, I suppose. Didn't mean to come off sounding like that to you. But, even if I has, my supposed entitlement doesn't justify or negate TB's.

Just FYI here in America if you punch a grown man in the face there is a very good chance he will shoot you in the face. And then get off scot-free by claiming self-defense. Look it up it's one of the things that make this country so awesome. So you might want to tone down your tough guy act.
Also calling someone a stupid c**t for a simple question of whether or not you were oversharing personal details of your life does not in any way shape or form make you seem like the "grown man" you imply to be. Same goes for threatening to punch someone in the face

well, maybe the n-word is more offensive than the c-word, but that doesn't justify using it.

I'm not going to be lectured by a fucking Australian on the appropriate use of words. You come from a country where cunt is used as a friendly greeting.
All this thread has shown is that the disgusting underbelly of the community has a tendency to crawl out of it's dark holes when it thinks it can get away with it.

While TB does have well-known forum rage problems, it wasn't a simple question of oversharing but a dramatic and, frankly, retarded misinterpretation of what he said.
It's not at all controversial or dramatic to say that trust would be an issue in a marriage where the partners live on different continents for a period of years. I'm sure TB didn't really give saying it any second thought, because to a reasonable person it would be pretty matter-of-fact.

Quite. The point is someone who CLEARLY has no understanding of the kind of issues that occur in that situation, makes an extreme accusation based on his complete lack of understanding, which makes him come off as an absolute ass at best, a disgusting piece of shit at worst. Note the vast majority did "get it", he's the first to EVER make that accusation and one of a tiny handful who was actually offended when I reacted negatively to his nonsense.

Just FYI here in America if you punch a grown man in the face there is a very good chance he will shoot you in the face. And then get off scot-free by claiming self-defense. Look it up it's one of the things that make this country so awesome. So you might want to tone down your tough guy act.

I think he's being serious. I wouldn't punch people in the face if I was in the US. That shit's just too dangerous.

Not really, a "factual" statement isnt racist,
To quote "wikipedia" regarding the word "cunt",
the Macquarie Dictionary of Australian English states that it is "a despicable man", however when used with a positive qualifier (good, funny, clever, etc.) in the Britain, New Zealand and Australia, it can convey a positive sense of the object or person referred to.[6]
Hm if TB will get banned for calling people cunts and whatnot will he make another reddit thread about being mistreated and how bad TL is? I'm looking forward to it

TB, I would expect you to be unhappy about what he said, as it was rude and uncalled for. But as you did disclose the information I think you could've politely interjected and explained, rather than use derogatory and inflammatory language that is abrasive and, frankly, infuriating to some (myself included).

Boring drama aside, I'm happy for you man! I've have no idea how hard it would be for me to not get to see my fiance or kids everyday. For a few months I worked in Oslo and that was very painful (Not living in Oslo the city is awesome, but rather missing alot of stuff).
Really hope it works out well for you and fuck the whiners

No it isn't. Despite having a laidback culture, my country is really strict when it comes to racism or sexism, or any other form of discrimination.

I do not really want to participate in this upcoming war because It is quite clear who is right. What I actually want to point out is that I red TBs posts in his voice. Also another word to TB: You realise that you are arguing with a person that has shown quite clearly that his viev of you is very biased because of hatred and/or dislike? Because if you do you should clearly know better than even thinking about such a person being able to change his/her mind IN an argument. And if you even dare think that you have to justify yourself: You don't. Seriously, everybody sees that you're right. And if not they better present some good, well-worded reasoning instead of saying they will shoot you.

i am well aware that wikipedia says the c word can be used positively. But i live in australia, and i know that that's not the case. If you use it, you will offend other women who hear it. And if you think i'm lying, and you are dying to see it first hand that i'm wrong, then go ahead and try it. You will be very suprised.

So yeah, if you don't want to get called a cunt, try not being a cunt. If you'd said that to me in real life I'd have punched you in the face, just like any other grown man would.
Oh my god... again, what in fuck? I have not said shit about your announcement, I've said shit about the totally childish way you acted and continue to act. You want eSports to grow? Don't act like a bitch. No one takes a bunch of people flaming each other seriously. And WOW, look at you, an eye for an eye right? That's what grown men do, right?
Nope. Grown men would act like men and HANDLE the situation. Not overreact, as you just did. Someone disagreed with you, and now apparently they are sub-human? That's fucked up.
Oh please cry some more, really it's super entertaining. I've handled the situation just fine, told someone exactly what I think of them just like a real grown man does. Over-react my ass. Whiny easily offended little shits have a problem with it, big surprise.
And do drop this "killing esports" shit will you. I do more for esports in a day than you'll do in your lifetime, I'm pretty sure I know how best to make it grow and I can tell you for a fact that posts on forums that nobody BUT esports viewers actually read do precisely dick to affect it's growth one way or the other.
If I were to show this whole conversation to someone who had no idea who you are, they would think you are being quite the little whiner.
They could say the exact same thing about you. Somebody called someone else a cunt for being a cunt. I can't see the argument here.

Hmm...
TB's qualifier was "stupid" cunt, not a positive qualifier. For what it's worth.
But I could care less, and I'm not getting into it. I'm kind of hoping that a mod does something or just calls us all stupid cunts for killing this thread with all the flaming and pushing this topic way off course.

wow man, i don't think telling someone to eff off is ever a right thing to do, you need to learn to control your temper. But what really worries me is you using the c word. Now i know it's cliche but our community is trying to rid itself of the sexism stereotype that gamers have, so that esports can grow. But to use that term is somewhat sexist and overall, killing esports.
