another thing, I don't see how being "moody" or only showing up for important games suddenly makes you trade bait. once again, he has the best contract in the league, he is pretty untouchable unless a team wants to offer up a legit superstar.... | ||

Edit: For the record I think it's retarded to trade him, and have thought it's retarded for the past couple years given that it's not like he's suddenly become good this year or something. Just saying, he's fairly notorious for having some sort of attitude issue in game, although you could do far worse in terms of star player attitude problems. | ||

That's a bargain basement deal for Rondo's prime years. I think he's 25? So for his 25-28 seasons you're going to pay a top 3 point guard, who clearly isn't finished developing, 11m, 12m ,13m? For reference, Jose Calderon is getting 10.5 million next season. You could trade for Rondo if you're rebuilding or contending - that contract is really nice. | ||

While I agree that Rondo is one of the best contracts in the league, particularly with how he blew up this year, it's not inconceivable that he is moved by the Celtics if they think he's not the player they want to build around. I don't think it's a coincidence that it took three HoF players joining the roster to bring the best out of Rondo. Not only did KG, Pierce and Ray provide the perfect set of skills to compliment Rondo and his combination of strengths/weaknesses, but their presence kept him in check. With Ray likely gone and KG either gone or gone in a season or two, Boston has to at least consider how Rondo would perform and behave on his own. Personally, I would keep him at all costs just because of how talented he is, how great his contract is, and what he's brought to the franchise, but I'm not the one who would be putting my future in his hands. Also, I don't know exactly what goes on behind the scenes, but there's been enough smoke to indicate a fire for years. Edit: Recent examples being all the rumors about Boston shopping Rondo this season and the recent news about how he and Ray had some serious issues with each other. | ||

I think Rondo is at that age where he starts getting the things that he needs to improve on (if this is in fact something), specially if people have been telling him for a while. The guy has no problem playing and I agree with Southlight when he said that there are far worse problems a star player can have. edit: if they do trade him I can see it also being a good move depending on who they get back. Maybe the change of scenery would be good for both parties involved also. | ||

Pierce has deteriorated a lot recently. Hes never in a good shape phisycally, some of that is due to being lazy, some due to aging body. His elevation gets lower every year and his defence isnt nearly as good as it used to be. Maybe it was the shortened season but Pierce left a bad impression on me in playoffs. Cs can go for Josh Smith I think? Now if they swap Allen for someone else like OJ Mayo or even keep him their lineup would look good. They need a center and thats probably enough to not be worse than this year. | ||

Pierce may have regressed, but his style of play doesn't require a lot of quickness or athleticism. He was still playing very well in the postseason prior to his injury (i.e. game without Rondo where he pretty much ran the offense himself), so I doubt they will see him as someone they need to move barring a complete rebuild. Don't know the Celtics' cap/salary situation, so I can't comment on J-Smoove. I think they need to pick up a solid C to convince KG that he will have help in the post so he will stay. If KG leaves, then they really need to shore up their frontcourt big time. | ||

also, I never said rondo didn't have off court issues at all, just that the media tends to blow it up, as mentioned above, he is a unique snowflake, he doesn't fit your typical mold. I don't see how being an ego maniac is a bad thing, most very succesful players, in all sports are ego maniacs, except for maybe wayne gretzky. on any given regular season game, you might get rando or rondo, but you know every playoff game rondo is showing up, rando might come in for flashes (see 1st quarter vs the heat), but eventually rondo will show his face (see the 7 quarters following). boston has tons of cap space, close to 40 million at least, just take away bass, ray and garnetts contract gives you close to* 40 million, 21 + 10 + 4.5 in just those three players. also hollins, wilcox, stiesma, dooling, pietrus, daniels, pavlovic, oniel and sean williams all come off the bench, that is probably another 10 million there. | ||

Trading Pierce would free up a lot of cap allowing Cs to get w/e they want pretty much. | ||
