This is actually my first Murakami novel so I'm going to pick up another one of his books after I'm done with this one, however, I'm not quite sure which on yet. People seem to really like The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle but the fact that the translation has been heavily abridged is a bit of a disappointment. I'm also making my way through Theodore Rex. Yeah, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles is really good but another Murakami I really enjoyed was Kafka on the shore (not sure if this is the english name for it but i guess it is correct). You should look up that one too. And obviously Norwegian Wood if you want to read something really beautiful.

So far I've grabbed. Old man's war A fire upon the deep Ender's game Hyperion The forever war and foundations. Really enjoyed old man's war, probably start on the forever war next. Trying to work my way back into reading. TV/games are so distracting.

![]() Just casually flipping for now. I'll admit the vast majority of this is going over my head but there are some gems in there I do grasp, like: "The shortcut does not allow one to arrive someplace more directly, but rather to lose the way that ought to lead there." "If you listen to the "times", you will learn that they will tell you in a low voice not to speak in their name, but to be silent in their name." "Dying is, speaking absolutely, the incessant imminence whereby life lasts, desiring. The imminence of what has already come to pass." "May happiness come for all, provided by this wish, I am excluded from it." But the book was still very interesting I have to say. Also finished reading Masumiyet Müzesi, a super romantic novel. looking forward to see the actual museum being built in Turkey. Highly recommend everyone to read it. But the best one is definitly 天帝妖狐, in fact, the book was so good that I decided to buy all the books that he (乙一, Otsu Ichi) has ever written. And I am very impressed with all of them. Most were short stories and he has some very unique ideas. His very first novel used the narration of a person who was murdered by her fds and surprisingly, she wasn't angry or anything, but rather, she was hoping her fd not to get caught. If anyone can read chinese/japanese, you should definitly check it out. He writes the most dark, gentle, bittersweet stories ever. I bought two copies of 天帝妖狐 just so that one is going to place on my shelf while the other I can take out any time to read. ![]() ![]()

![]() I'm about 3/4 through, I have to say I like his short stories (Books Of Blood) a lot more. It's not a bad novel by any means, Barker is a brilliant writer, but I think his style just works better with shorter narratives. Will probably read The Hellbound Heart and Cabal after I'm done with this one, maybe one of those will change my mind.
