The only people I saw say they didn't care was the euros after placing last.

Yes. I seriously believe the players did not give one shit about playing in that all-star tournament. They had nothing to gain from it in comparison to playing with their own team. The things i listed are very real. They probably cared about being picked, due to it being a popularity contest, especially NA because it boosts their fanbase and income.

Region vs region means alot to fans, not to players, if they are beating or losing to teams i dont think they give a fuck what region they're in.

"nothing to gain from it"

worlds seeding was based on that tournament. Anyone "remotely interested in watching competitive play" thought that the rewards were too great.

Both formats are cool, all stars tournament was really fun and cool, but because Rito has put us in a situation where getting to see international cross matches is a treat, I'm ok with giving it up, but in a non-exclusive situation I'd most certainly be looking foreword to All stars. Like I don't necessarily disagree with you that this is going to be a better tournament but you are making stuff up to support your point, Players don't care about region v. region LOL

I think it's more accurate to say that some regions (NA, Korea) cared a great deal more than other regions (EU, China).

do you even think that would be the case if not for it being Gambit? I feel like any combination of western European players would have cared a great deal.

that is a guess however.

The actual/potential NA All-Stars are closer to each other than the same pool of people from EU, which I think really boosted how much effort NA put into it.

EU teams, from what I see, tend to be more separated from each other, so it was really more of a "business" relationship for All-Stars, combined with Gambit choosing not to emphasize it. Even if Gambit players weren't selected, I still don't think much would've changed, though this is of course pure speculation.

Korea tends to be more enthusiastic/tryhard than other regions when competition is framed as having national pride on the line. Also helped by the fact that Korea is a single country as opposed to a continent.

China is also fairly nationalistic, but WE and iG aren't super close with each other (though I wouldn't go as far as to say antagonistic), and the people that were voted in were also, with maybe one and a half exceptions, not really the top performers of the region at the time. This led to general apathy, but they managed to do well because they were still simply much better individually than the competition minus Korea.

I don't know enough about the off-screen dynamics of SEA to comment, but my suspicion is that they had a more relaxed attitude knowing that they weren't in contention for a top spot anyways.

The result of All-Stars was really a foregone conclusion TBH.

Not really players from EU teams always go out after LCS together and most of players are good friends with each other.

I think he means due to how large Europe is compared to the US, where every team is based in different parts of it, since not every EU LCS team has a house in Germany/close to Cologne?

Whereas almost every team in NA has lives close enough to each other that they can regularly hangout on offdays, EG+Coast playing poker, C9/TSM going out to eat, etc.

I could be completely off on the EU scene, but this would be my guess.

I find it interesting that Bjergsen was able to get a 5 year visa when his contract ends in 2015 with TSM. Maybe I'm thinking too logically about the governments timing them with contracts in mind or maybe Bjergsen is getting an extension.

Outside of "lel my favourite players are on one team!!" what do you gain? A whole damn lot of subpar play because players 1) dont care and 2) arent going to reveal tactics to other teams (everything from rotations to picks) so you end up with garbage games that are reminiscent of high level soloQ because nobody gives a fuck and arent going to just openly give away their (+their teams) inner workings to their competitors.

players were actually quite open with each other about tactics. and there's a lot of pride at stake. you have no idea of what you're talking about.

Team Coast picked up Awsomniac. They're in the semifinals of Rito's EU Challenger Series

My thoughts on Awesomniac have been really mixed. I'm more interested to know where they're going with this and what was behind getting into the Challenger scene...in EU?

Expanding brand.
Cloud 9 is already one of the biggest brands across Western esports scene, TSM has their Smite team which is EU based, CLG were first and still surfing for legit DotA team.
Coast want to expand on EU squad in lol, which has good chance to qualify at least for promotions. Pretty nice decision considering level of EU LCS.
