I think their are quite a few teenagers on this site, so I think this would be a great idea for helping us succeed in school! Since an official thread is much easier then just blogs.

Post any help you need, and since I'm guessing the majority of TL users are in college/been through college, legit help can be given (;

Anyways, here is my question

find the range of f(x) = 3x^2 + 2 if the domain is limited to {-4, -2, 2, 4}

I don't know where to start here. All I know is the range has to be above 2 because of the "+2" in the equation. I'm guessing you're going to have to find x, square it, and multiply by 2. Which I don't know how to do.

I don't see why one big thread is a problem though?

Rightfully so. o.o You are on the internet... solving simple maths probs shouldn't be that hard.

The range is all possible F(x) values...basically what you will get when you plug the x values in.
for example f(-4) = 3*(-4)^2 +2 = 50
your range in this case would be just four values (or less if they overlap) (I think it is just 2 as this is parabola)
You can punch the above into excel or into a scientific calculator and it will pop out the answer if you aren't the strongest at order of operations.
the domain of f(x)=x^2 is all value greater then or equal to zero.
the domain of f(x)=x^2 for -2<=x<=2 is all values between zero and 4.
however since your have only four discrete domain values, your range is four or less discreet values.
PM me if you need anything clarified.

To mods, this is a good idea, but boundries need to be stuck to. I say limit it to explanations of how to do problems etc, and no just giving straight answers.

To the OP, sorry can't help ya. Anywho, if this stays open ill probably be posting as the year goes on, first year BPE/BED reporting.

I got -46 as the lowest.. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Did 3 x -4^2 +2 and got -46.

Fml math is not my subject ;/

I'm pretty sure that homework threads are not allowed on TL. At all.

Maybe ask a mod or something, I noticed a lot of them get closed. Otherwise I'm game.

This thread seems to defeat the point of homework to me.

You are a life saver man, you really simplify it. Thank you.

Yes, I just made a blog and got it closed. I think one big thread is a good idea. I'll put in the OP explanations only. I doubt most people just want the answers anyways, most people try to LEARN the material IMO.

So you should just take it home, and not do anything because you don't know how? Homework is meant to show that you know the material, just because you're getting help doesn't mean you haven't learned the material.

I'm going to stop arguing now, and I don't want this thread to go off topic any more.

From the 5th TL commandment...

"This includes non-StarCraft related voting campaigns (vote for my friend in this contest!) or blatant threads asking for homework advice (how do I solve this equation??). TeamLiquid is not your personal army. It is not a substitute for Google or a tool for lazy students. We're here to discuss things and have fun, not for your own selfish needs."

Open up your textbooks. Start reading about what domain and range are. If you want to plague a community with your simple math questions then use yahoo answers' homework help section.

If you want help from me I charge $100/hour.
