On wendsday in going to be attending at a panel discussion Negro pride (African American festival) and talk about norms videogames. I work as a esportsreporter for several American media channnels and i am kind of going to represent gaming, especially esports.
So what i would like your opinion on is:
There are very few black characters in videogames, compared to the white ones, and also quite few Asian characters. However there are a lot of Mexican and Black gamers out there and they are not represented in any way. How does this affect the way we look at Blacks etc? Does it affect us at all? Does if affect how WANTS to play, since they might feel uninvited and excluded?
Would it diffucult to admitt that you are black say when playing online or in gamersociety? Would such person be treated differently? How would you react if a good progamer came out as black?
Do we need to change they way we portrait norms in videogames? Does it affect how we perceive reality?
What kind of ethnicities and values are advocated in games?
id like to point out that the questions are not necessary representations of MY thought, but the questions i was asked to think and analyse about. The black comunity in America however does think it is important enought to discuss.
Thx for every answer ^^ Anyone in LA be sure to show up! On Wednesday, 14.15.
This would be a decent topic to discuss if you weren't all being obnoxious assholes about it. Yes, modern gamer culture does seemingly exclude groups of people. Thankfully, the SC2 community doesn't seem to be one of those.

Jesus fucking christ. Where in you're mind did you figure this was funny? It's actually not funny, but just assholeish.
I'm hoping for a Thread Lock asap because these kinds of threads are fucking immature as fuck, and most inteligent people that show up to teamliquid don't want to read about stupid shit.

Lol sorry what? I think it's a bit hard to "come out" as being black. Personally I don't think race makes people play/perceive oppenents differently. Unless you're playing against a Korean in sc then gg
Only 12.6% of American's consider themselves "African American / Black / Negro" according to latest census data. Given that it makes sense that the majority of game characters from the US are Caucasian. Furthermore, I would argue that gaming is more popular among whites than it is among blacks in general.
Off the top of my head there is definitely diversity in gaming characters in the sense that almost every game has a black character or two thrown in - expecting them to be the majority is not realistic and would not represent actual population in the US.
I honestly cant comment on this topic legitimately without it upsetting anybody so I will just steer clear. I actually have good facts, but dont want to get banned / warned
I can't believe people who are either trying to point out this guy is trolling or giving serious feedback to it. The same people who have the audacity to say "dude im intelligent and i don't wanna see these threads here"
