I can't believe this still is needed but religious and gun control side discussions will be met with harsh penalties from page 52 and onwards. |

I don't get it?? The type of weapon is incredibly important as it leads to questions of where it was supplied, just like the questions of how the person made/acquired explosives. I got that, I didn't get the stab at Americans. If you recall, I was one of the people calling them idiots for arguing gun semantics in the first place. Don't blanket everyone like that, do us all a favor. On the contrary, blanketing can be funny sometimes; but lets stay on topic. Any new info ? Nothing that hasn't been posted yet. I doubt we'll get more information tonight. I believe we'll get new numbers for the island tomorrow. Hopefully they won't be horrid, but I'm not too optimistic.

When the media talk about "guards" at the island they're probably talking about people who's job was primarily to check if the visitors had the correct tickets and such. I doubt there were any guards in the correct sense of the word (as in guarding their safety). The man had come and claimed he was doing a routine check due to the bombs in Oslo. The "guards" who probably weren't really guards would obviously let him through.

Seeing the pictures is just too emotional

Surprisingly Al Jazeera had a better coverage of the press conference and alot of the events, than the BBC. I guess the BBC didn't want to show some of the more graphic images.
The most annoying thing is that now we all have to go to sleep without an answer as to the motivation behind all this and after 4 hours of watching it, thats doesn't feel right.

A lot seems to point towards a right-wing extremist displeased with the government and the labour party. It also looks like a lone wolf or a tiny group of people responsible.

He killed at least one.

I guess it wouldn't realy matter after all if he was carrying rifles and backpacks with bombs or w/e when he was dressed as a police and you know that your capital city just got bombed.

Actually since now you're referring to me, I'll go ahead and set the record straight since it IS relevant to this thread:
-A poster had implied that this act must have been executed by a "highly trained professional". I replied that in fact this act - although horrible - is an act that can be replicated by ANYONE that is crazy enough. It DOES NOT require a HIGHLY TRAINED operator to kill with a tool like an assault weapon. That was my point - it's an important point too. We must ALL be very wary of this type of violence as it can happen ANYWHERE so long as a lunatic/fanatic has access to the right TOOLS - in this case, an assault weapon.
-Another poster uselessly responded to me that I was wrong in my nomenclature - that "assault rifle" was not the right term. To this needless point I replied, with FOUR sources, that the description and aftermath of the violence clearly indicated that it WAS an assault rifle. Again, this point is important because it indicates that somebody had access to a very dangerous tool - one that enables this type of slaughter with relative ease.
Now, do you have any questions for me, this "bunch of stupid Americans"? By the way, I'm one person. Hope that clears it up.

But that doesn't make sense. What would they have to gain? Since most of the norwegian people would now side with the socialist party even more wouldn't they ? Is it the socialist party who agreed to send troups in Afghanistan back in the day or was it a different party ?

"We are working to ensure that the young people out there have confidence that we are real police," Sem-Jacobsen said."
Holy shit! Can you imagine what it must've been like for the kids on the island? Absolutely horrible. I wonder how they can recover from that mentally.

It looks like the numbers didnt increase the last 2 hours?
My feelings are with the whole of norway.

It's so strange and surreal having something like this happen so close. My roommates mother was really close to the place, my GF lives a mile away at most, and if she hadn't been out of town, she'd probably have been in the area. My sister still doesn't know where one of her friends is. Must say that I've gotten a lot of perspective during this day.

Watching, and reading reports from surviving kids from the shooting incident is some of the most disturbing/moving stuff i've ever heard or seen. THis is truly a horrible day.
|
tv2 just aired an interview with an eye-witness who had been about 20-30 metres from the shooter
disturbing interview
poor kid

Norwegian news so far:

No he had already assumed "responsebility" for her so i figured i would help someone else. An off duty doctor later (or prior) also had also checked her out there wasnt much else one could do for her.
