I don't have my own photos so I will just take photos off google. Guns I own: Bushmaster AR-15. My setup is very similar to this one but without the bi pod. + Show Spoiler +
M1 Garand. My finish is more beat up than this ones. + Show Spoiler +
Springfield 1911. The same as this but with my own grips. + Show Spoiler +
A Luger that my father passed over, with box and accessories etc, in excellent condition. I'm completely indifferent when it comes to guns but I know when to appreciate a fine relic.
Is this a joke ? Is that virtual weapons or are you just psychos ? What are you gonna do with this murder toys ? Is it expensive ? Are you allowed to have such an arsenal in your country ?

1) No 2) Just love guns 3) Shoot stuff at gun ranges and crap on our property 4) Automatic weapons cost thousands of dollars, and to acquire a permit for automatic weapons costs tens of thousands of dollars, months of background checking, and most people are not eligible to get them at all. Let alone semi automatic. Guns are not by any means easy to get unless you're talking about some pea shooting .22

Holy mother of destruction.. ONLY 4 GUNS, one of them an automatic assault rifle? Call me a liberal or whatever but why would you ever need that kinda weaponry for self defense? Also you want a .50 cal? You scared of terrorists coming to your town with an APC or what?

AK-47's are not sold standard as automatic.

I own a pip-squeet .22, .45 ACP, a .38 revolver, and a mosin nagant from my grandfather.

In the US you have to jump through a few hoops, but it is possible.
Anyway, I've got a Safari Arms 1911 of some sort, some initial googling leads me to believe it may be a matchmaster, but the pistol is in another room and I cba to check.
I've also just got a ruger .22 rifle. Don't do much with it but it's easy to shoot so I shoot targets occasionally.
california has such strict gun laws, it really sucks (for me). i just have an ar-15, 16 in barrel (shortest you can have in cali), telescoping buttstock, forward pistol grip and some terrible red dot scope on it lol (gonna get an eotech).
i also plan on getting an m9 soon (which i think is a beretta? dunno civilian version)
On March 23 2011 11:34 madcow305 wrote: Wait, in the Canada and US, you can legally purchase automatic rifles?
No (well you can, but it's more like collector's vintage 1950ish automatic ak's. You can also get a permit, but that's near impossible if you aren't in law enforcement). There are semi-automatic ak's...

I don't have anything (my dad does) but if I did I'd be interested in a 30-06 caliber rifle in bull-pup configuration with a 16 barrel...thing would be SO COOL (16 inch is minimum here in ny too) XD
And yes you can have Automatic rifles in some parts of the US. I know that in Az, it costs a lot extra and is hard to do, but anyone over 18 can have one.
I have 2 shotguns, a pistol and 2 rifles, don't really want to get into what they are tho
EDIT: for those wondering why in the world would anyone want to buy a gun, have obviously never had the joy that comes from shooting. Sure some are for self defense or for collecting, but i think going out shooting is so fun. I am really good friends with a guy that was a sheriff and on swat, and i can tell you that those are some of the funniest things to shoot. Sure it is dangerous to own firepower, but as long as you are not an idiot, it can be safe. I think owning a car or truck is a lot more dangerous, specialty because of the amount of horrible drivers out there.

Firstly where did I say that guns are bad? ( i mean i think they are but i didnt really say that). Secondly i stated a question. Do you "gun nuts" just have those things as decoration, use them at the shooting range, or actually use them what they would be intended to do - defending yourself, your family and your home? I mean sure if you go to the shooting range or shoot for sport, but actually having an arsenal like that at home? [opinion] I would be scared shitless that my kid or some other guy would go and get it. For me anything else than a handgun is way overboard. [/opinion]

I can answer this:
Yes, yes, yes. They are, to some people, decorative. To others, it's target practice at the shooting range. To others, self-defense. To some, all of the above. I was raised in a home with guns. I was taught from a VERY young age exactly how dangerous they are - in other words I'm a gun safety nut. I know exactly what it can and will do if I point it at something and pull the trigger, and am educated in its use and capabilities. I am, given this knowledge, more comfortable in my personal security and my ability to defend myself if the need ever arises (and I hope that it never, ever will).
I don't know how thorough an answer that was as I am from an area with this is the norm and I've never really had to defend this position before. Feel free to ask any more questions.
If I ever buy a house in America I plan on getting a .45 semi-automatic handgun or a pump action shotgun for home defense/zombie outbreaks.
Any more than that is just ridiculous, I'm not going to need a rifle and I'm smart enough to know that I can't operate one effectively anyway. But if I did want one, I'd pick an AK.

Yea, cuz animes can kill people right? Seriously, I don't blame people buying guns for their collection, I am just worried about people selling them. How can you even sleep, knowing that someone might do some mass murder shit because of you. I don't care about semi-automatics for self-defense, but automatic rifles, really? Even if someone is eligible to buy weapons doesn't mean he won't go rambo one day.
Buying such guns is also illegal in a lot of countries, where animes are not. Since Teamliquid is international and accessible by everyone, I don't think this is the appropriate place for this, and you should have known this would only bring debates (even if you said "no politics" in the OP).

a 16" barrel on a bullpup would be short as fuck haha, would be awesome. according to wikipedia the bullpup carbine (16" barrel) is like 2 inches shorter than an m4 (14.5" barrel).
i wish california didn't have a minimum i want my m4. i don't really mind not having burst (who uses burst anyways?), but the worst law is the limit on the # of rounds in a magazine. the most you can have in california on any weapon is 10 rounds.
I have a Type 38 Arisaka that was passed down from my grandpa, who acquired it during WW2. It's in terrible shape and is inoperable. I really want to get it restored one day, though.
just for arguement sakes, I can't imagine trying to someone with the Tanegashima. Fill Chamber with Powder, Close Chamber, Pour Powder down barrel, Put Musket ball, Put in a wad, Use the stick to pack it tight, put the stick back, light match, fit match on jaws, open chamber, aim, shoot.
This may be a little bit off-topic, but I have been told by a gun owner/enthusiast that it is a very silly thing to tell people you don't know very well that you actually have guns.
Obvious reason being that they are expensive and a prime target for thieves - plus it is your responsibility to keep them safe and out of the hands of others therefore telling the world that you have a sick collection of weapons including semi-automatic rifles is probably a pretty stupid idea.

You have to pay tens of thousands of dollars, not to mention have to renew your license every couple of months (which costs more money) which goes through even more background checks. If you fuck up at all, and I mean at all, you get your shit taken away. All that money you invested? Gone. All that time? Gone.
It's not like people every day walk around with automaic AK's in their trunk or something. Very few people have these guns, stop comparing a .22 pistol to a .50 cal LMG.

You can get a non-restricted license in Canada without too much trouble. This will allow you to buy most long rifles that aren't military style. Getting a restricted license is more of a hassle but doable to allow you to buy handguns and AR-15's.
Now that I'm 21 I plan on buying a handgun at some point. Not sure what type I'll get. I don't really know much about the different types of handguns. I've been down to the range 4-5 times and have fired a different handgun each time; only one I remember for sure is a Beretta. On another note, I also fired a clip or two of an MP5. That was a lot of fun.

Sum up the thought process of non-Americans: Guns are bad *grumble grumble*, unless you are wearing a Government uniform, then it is just A-ok! Self-Defense? Are you insane! The police are there to 'protect you' not to ensure that Justice is fulfilled!
People have went from believing the purpose of laws was to ensure justice through making sure those who have violated anothers' natural rights were punished for their crimes, to a warped Minority Report sense of laws. The effect -- a totalitarian state.

Because I live in Canada my guns serve me 3 main purposes: Recreation, home defense and defense in any potential catastrophic situation. If I lived in the US I would conceal carry a handgun but that is illegal here in Canada.
Don't own any, have no desire to purchase them. People from my office used to be issued revolvers twenty years ago (as an image+self defense thing) but it was overwhelmingly unpopular, so they decided to stop issuing them and told the few diehards who really wanted them to buy their own.
Nowadays, crime in the city is so much lower that it's pretty much inconceivable that we'd ever be issued handguns - I guess it's just a sign of how far NYC has come since the 80's.

Funny, cause I think that Hollywood movies and games tend to portray guns as "cool". You see your COD4 character reloading at top speed and spraying a whole clip with pinpoint accuracy and you think: fuck yeah I could do that too.

Are you afraid of cars? What about drugs? They both kill vastly more people every day than guns. Also, I think its a bit facetious to be so scared of guns if your neighbor owns a small arm, but couldn't blink twice if your Government owns nuclear weapons, tanks, fighter planes, bombers, ICBM's, etc.

Responsibility is key when owning a gun. Follow all the gun safety rules and use a little common sense and guns are very safe. The only way a gun malfunction can cause injury is if you grossly abuse your gun.

i really wanna get something chambered in .22lr cuz the ammo is so cheap. 5.56x45 rounds here are like 50 cents a piece.
Well I "owned" one of these here in the austrian army (I am not going to post a picture with me and a steyr aug, I am not nuts) -

The HK416 looks pretty fun! The Barrett actually does scare me, because that thing is fucking VICIOUS.
Anyway, I didn't see what he'd said. Apologies for not reading everything. I wouldn't say guns themselves are scary, but misuse can be for sure. More than anything people are scary. People that misuse guns would do the same thing the use the guns for without a gun if they couldn't have one, unfortunately.

Do some people fuck up with guns? Yeah. Does that make us all horrible people? No.
Go make a guns debate thread if you're gonna bring that crap here. This is our thread to enjoy and brag and gawk at everyone else's toys.
Alright, bad day at work rant done. On topic! I'm at a hotel right now far away from home so I'll just have to google photos. if I remember, I'll take pictures at home!
Story time! My Grandfather (like many of ours!) served in World War 2, and brought back a ton of souvenirs that I inherited. And Love, I'm a huge WW2 nut. I love everything WW2 related from pre-war things to conspiracy theories. Interesting note here (I had a historian talk to me about it!) that when soldiers brought things back from Europe, the customs had to go through and do things like de-brand the weapons, and that sort of thing. Somehow my grandfather smuggled this through and they didn't reforge the barrel to take off the Eagle+Swastika branded in the barrel. My father never showed me it when I was younger and the thing is in pristine condition. It's awesome.
Same with the P38 AC 43
I practically have a full uniform too...Kinda funny when making first impressions...if I leave my closet in my basement open there's like a full SS uniform down there and everyone is like...the fuck? Haha.
This was my grandfather's. Springfield M1C, unfortunately somehow the scope got beat up. Sadface! The sling is in desperate need of attention but...when I feel like it.
I don't have any current weapons, really. I'm more into the older stuff. Middle aged stuff in gun years, haha.
I'm looking to get a Thompson, been dying to fire me off one of those. Guy at a range in Nevada had one and I was freaking JEALOUS. If I didn't know how 'spencive ammo was I'd have asked to fire off a few rounds.
My dream gun that I'll never have...

Oh man I would just...oh man. I know it's only got a few prototypes ever built but the whole thing is just...oh man, gunboner. BRB.
The only gun I own is a U22 Neos Inox handgun from Baretta that I primarily use for simple target shooting. Picture
I often go target/skeet shooting with my father and he owns a couple of 12 gauge shotguns, a couple of military grade pistols and various rifles all of which I have shot at some time or another. For what I typically do with guns, target shooting, my selection amongst my gun and my father's guns is fine and I don't really need to branch out much. I might in the long term future get my hands on a good long range scoped rifle for some long range target stuff, it really depends on my future funding.
Probably one of the biggest cultural differences between the us and eu, with the exception of finland. I don't like manga either, but it doesn't worry me like automatics does. Guess i should just learn to stay out of threads that discomforts me.
I used to feel like people bought guns mostly for the power trip aspect of owning one, and I still think a lot do. Also, I've lived in a lot of different places (really nice and really shitty) in the U.S. and never felt I needed a gun to feel safe, but I guess everyone's life experience is different. Anyway, I've come to realize that for many it really is a legitimate hobby, like collecting classic cars or something.
I think I'll probably buy a 1911 at some point. I like the look, customizability and the history of the design on the 1911, and from what I understand it's a solid all-around handgun. I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff though.
A GUN THREAD I MUST RAGE. GRRR. Have you people not heard of gun safes? While not 100% secure (nothing is), it's not like we've got AK's and Shotguns and HPR laying around our living room. Hahaha. I think you give licensed owners too little credit. Besides, don't stereotype us...we're not all "Kill all sons of bitches" kind of people.

Oh, wow, dude! Nice rifles! The pistol's not bad either, but I'm just sort of amazed you have a pristine kar98k! (Assuming that's what it is tbh. Never actually seen one!)
I got a Taurus .357 revolver (Thank you Brazil) and a S&W 9mm (Thank you USA).
I plan on getting a Kahr P9 for concealed carry someday, but not for self defense but for all the geese I see flying over the city. I'd like to take one down and hand it to some homeless guy someday.

those things are pretty cool, haha.
From what I've heard it competes with the AR-15 in performance but it isn't nearly as customizable because the AR-15 is so much more popular. The price should probably be about similar but unfortunately, due to it's low supply, it is quite expensive.

There ya go mister.
As an American with dual Swiss and American citizenship - the Swiss have an incredibly high proportion of gun ownership compared to the rest of the world. Not sure what joke you were aiming for there.
It surprises me that people can't put two and two together and realize that it would be impossible for America not to be pro-gun. I mean how do you think we defended ourselves against Native Americans, Wild animals, and European Imperialist. These threats have only recently gone away in the last 130years.

Because Switzerland doesnt have an army in the traditional definition of the word. Most of the Swiss armed forces is made of conscript citizens who keep their equipment, including weapons, at home.

I don't know how they stayed in great condition...I was venturing around in my basement one night and found these weird...things wrapped up in twine and tons of paper/tarps and stuff. Opened them up thinking "what the F is this" and it was all the above. Most of them were disassembled, I had to put a few parts back together, save the pistol obviously, but I was flipping out. I finally went and got the story from my dad, apparently he had them for years and I just managed to be "storage" for them. Haha.

Having been through military firearms training myself I can say I'm much happier with the idea of Swiss citizens who have done national service having guns than civilians who like the idea of owning them having access to them. The military make damn sure you respect the power of the tool and that you have safety drilled into you before they let you near it. That goes way beyond the waiting periods and background screening that is usually required.

I would love to get my hands on an Mauser bolt-type rifle, especially the Springfield or 98K. Though I wouldnt mind if I can get a cheap standard Mosin, not the carbine versions though. :/

The first time I ever shot (I think I was 14 or 15 at the time, so nearly 4-5 years ago.) I shot a glock 40.
Never again.
After half a magazine (five rounds) I felt like my arm was being ripped off. Each time I shot my arm shot up in the air a LOT. So I let my dad shoot the other half of the magazine. Even he was uncomfortable after he shot it and he's been shooting since he was a child.
Ah, wow man, that's pretty amazing! congrats on that particular find!
I'll try and get some good pictures when I fly back. I leave here Saturday and fly overnight, and if I'm not totally tired as hell or gone insane out here, I'll post em up.
Assuming we don't get closed by then.
And I can appreciate an awesome bow, one of my coworkers had a really slick composite that I was really jealous of. He kept that thing in his trunk though, haha. He just pulled it out one day at the office and was like.
I'm really surprised that this many people on TL own weapons.....
Anyways, I bought a Mosin Nagant a couple years back. Sick rifle for the cost. If anyone is interested in a starter rifle I would recommend it. Some stockpile closed or something and nowadays you can buy them for like $100 at Big 5.

On the topic of bows:
I used to want a bow, but after a while I think the appeal for me sort of dropped off. They do make really fun target practice though.

I have a Katana and a Greatsword back at home, I bought those mainly for decoration, though the greatsword was for a convention. Turns out they thought it was too sharp (as in not sharp at all, I even made sure the edges were super dull) and didn't let me take it in. Ruined everything, it did.

Strange, while I noticed it's a bit harder to shoot then my friends 9mm Beretta, I figured that was mainly because the 40 is a little bit bigger bullet. Honestly though I don't have a ton of experience with pistols, my friends 9mm Beretta Px4 Storm, my other friends Glock 10mm and Springfield 45, and my Glock 40 are about it... And the Glock was right in the middle of ease of use (for me anyway).
Awesome thread, I've always been crazy about owning a S&W 500 because of how insane it is. Sad people can't just stick to the original purpose of the thread and post more appropriate comments. Superior firepower in the right hands keeps the world spinning.

I'm a pretty short guy (5' 7" now so even shorter back then) and was a bit of a weakling. For my first time shooting, it was just too much gun for me. Too lightweight and too powerful. That was my second gun that day, the other being a .38 revolver of some sort.

No (well you can, but it's more like collector's vintage 1950ish automatic ak's. You can also get a permit, but that's near impossible if you aren't in law enforcement). There are semi-automatic ak's...
You cant get an automatic weapon as a civilian in Canada. Its illegal. Even semi-auto rifles are limited by law to a 5 round clip. Its specifically designed so people cant shoot each other.
Getting a handgun requires a firearms license, a course, a gun club membership and a handgun license (also a pain to be a member of a club because its pretty expensive).
I personally own S&W .40 Semi auto, silver =D (dont have a picture D: ). I use it at the range a few times a year, I was thinking of selling even though i love it, just because i dont want to pay the 20 dollar a month membership ><
Although a lot of people use the membership to get the handgun and just cancel it, even though its techinically against the law.
edit. Some automatic rifles from the second world war are legal if you have owned the weapon for over 30 years. But nothing new is available to anyone but gang members.

Bah,
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (A.T.F.) have inspected, tested, and approved the design of this firearm because its receiver and specially made semi-auto only fire control group will NOT accept original military full-auto parts. In layman's terms this means the gun only fires like a civilian hunting or target rifle and can NOT be modified to fire bursts.
I think I am gonna have to find someone that is licensed if I ever want to fire a true MG34. And some of the other rifles I am apparently hoping to one day shoot.
Haha, oh well, such is life. Where there is a will, there's a way...
lee enfield. guns seem like an expensive hobby though.
Well a lot of guns tend to hold their value, especially shotguns. So even though the upfront cost is very high, it is pretty easy to sell them at a gain or very small loss(all of my experience is in shotguns and semiautomatic rifles) In my experience this is more so true of guns with wood stocks. More of a shotgun person myself, skeet shooting is a lot fun and I grew up grouse hunting a little bit.

If you are really strapped for money a Mosin Nagant is only $120 or so dollars and has cheap ammo. I think getting even a single cheap gun and a bit of ammo should be a high priority.
I'd probably recommend an SKS over the mosin 7.62 is cheap and it won't dislocate his shoulder when fired.
Mosins fire 7.62....
x54 sks fires x39.
Despite what most think that 20 odd mm difference is a big deal.

Lol are you f***ing serious??
Even though I'm anything but pro- gunner or whatever I still can understand people who like to shoot at stuff. Let's be honest, all of us wanted to do as children after watching some western movies. It's just that some people give up on that because of some reasons and some don't.
And yeah it's true that the number of gun owners in our country is awfully high because, unfortunatly, the vote about leaving the guns at a military facility while not needed got turned down. Still glad we got no big gun- exalting(?) associations around here.
So the weapon that I "owned" for a few weeks was this:
man this thread was a slaughter of red writing lol. i plan to buy a FNS 2000 in the future and i know im inhareting a .12 gauge semi auto shotgun from my grandpa
I'd like to own a couple of MP5Ks and go around all Matrix style with dark glasses and coat with empty clips in the guns just to freak people out, and since transporting the ammo inside of the gun anyplace else than your home or the shooting range is highly illegal(at least here in Germany), that is about as far as it could go.
Seriously, I wasn't even in the army, and I think that guns kill people if utilized by people, and that is a bad thing, but I do have a strange fascination for them, which is probably why I play computer games with a ton of guns in them. And I was member of the shooting club when I was 14, shooting air rifles at 10 m distance( I reckon that's about 11 yards, as 1 yard is supposed to be 91 cm, and a meter is 100 cm) targets of 2 inches in diameter. Which was kinda boring in the long run. So I quit.

10- Winchester SuperX3 12ga (semi-auto)

I've been trying for a while to get my class 3 (automatic weapons/suppressor/silencer) license so I can get a P90 for target shooting and as a conversation piece. I've also sold a lot of my pistols (5 in the last year) because my gun-safe (Liberty-Franklin model) was getting full and I needed the money.
Shooting is a great hobby with a safe and responsible following. We aren't the people who commit gun crimes.
I'm honestly curious here, not trying to get anyone mad, just want to learn. What compels you guys to buy 11 guns? Clearly the last poster has such a passion that they made an account to talk about it, I just want to understand it.

Tbh I wouldn't call more than half that own guns the "right people". Thats what the government and people with training are for, protecting their people. If you live in a country like Somalia or Libya, I'd change my stance and say everyone should own a gun then lol. I know it's a right in our country, freedom to bear arms and what not. But seriously, people don't need to own 4+ guns, with semi-automatic rifles and shotguns that would put any police force to shame. I can totally see someone owning a handgun for protection but thats about it, anything else is overkill. You can't even use the collector arguement because these arn't baseball cards or stamps, these can kill someone with the pull of a finger.
edit: its just a difference of opinion thing I guess and I can't comprehend the reason for them.
That Browning Citori and Stgw 90 look pretty sick.
My AK is semi-auto. It's almost impossible, like others have said, to get a full auto gun legally in the states. The .50cal is for long range target practice. The S&W 500 is a sick, sick cannon. Feels like it's going to break your thumbs and wrist when you fire it.
To sum up what some of the other posters have said, I keep my arsenal for shooting watermelons, mangos, and coconuts, wild boars & gators, and personal protection. When you're trekking through the woods to get to a nice fishing hole, and have wild boars come at you, or have to fight for your catch with a 10ft alligator, you'd want a few weapons, too.
Raising a family in Jacksonville, FL gives you a good reason to keep personal protection around. Sometimes, the police just aren't quick enough and bad things happen.

Almost all of those guns are extremely different from each other. For hunting purposes or target shooting they all preform very differently. I have guns that I use for hunting that feels very good, but I am not as worried about wear and tear on it. While for trap shooting I use a gun that I would not be comfortable stomping through the woods with(can't have that beautiful finish getting damaged). For duck hunting I am going to use a semi-auto 12 gauge, and for grouse some type of 20 gauge usually. Those are just shotguns, same type of thing for rifles and it adds up to a lot of guns.
While I love shooting as a hobby, some of the things people want just don't make sense to me either. I don't see the value in buying fully automatic guns, and people who are fanatical about them tend to cause people to have a very negative perception of gun owners.

What compels you to play video games? What compels people to do anything? Different people like different things. Shooting is just like any hobby, if done responsibly.
lol I knew before I even clicked on this thread there would be a bunch of foreigners freaking out. Then you listen to the news in Egypt and hear that none of the people are armed and actually able to do anything about their own government. Luckily the military was on the side of the people, but what if it wasn't?
Anyway, I've always been interested in owning a gun or two once I started getting deeper in my studies of economics and learning that we will never in fact pay off our debt, and that a second great depression is almost certainly inevitable. Every nation is going the way of greece, and eventually there won't be anyone left to "bail" them out. Call me paranoid but I can't really see modern america waiting patiently in soup lines like in the last GD. I can't read the future, but I believe in being prepared, which means learning some basic survival skills, having emergency supplies, and being armed.
I want a very simple, reliable SA handgun that isn't absurdly priced. I was considering a CZ75b but if anyone can give me some feedback that would be great.

I heard there are people out there with more than 11 Guitars, Golf Clubs, Fishing Rods or what ever accessoire you need for a hobby.
Alright, after reading the first few pages of this topic, I'm kinda shocked by how ignorant most of the comments are. Owning a gun no more makes you a serial killer than having breasts makes you a prostitute. I thought the TL community was smarter than the posters in the thread, but that might explain all the idiotic comments on the first few pages.
I used to own an AR-15, but I had to sell it. It was fun to fire, but jammed like crazy. If I ever do own one again, I'm definitely thinking Desert Eagle though.

That's kind of funny as I play guitar, golf for my college, and fish with my uncle. I also have gone to shooting ranges multiple times and I really like shows like Top Shot because the hand-eye required is ridiculous.
I don't get why you'd have 11 guns. There are posts of lunatics in the thread that I can focus on but it's not worth involving them. I just don't see how someone can buy 11 guns without being a professional and be surprised when they're judged harshly.

I don't have 11 guns, but I have several and here are my reasons:
1. Variation; different models, calibers, types 2. Being able to practice with a wider range of guns to broaden your shooting skills 3. Why not? Other than the monetary costs I don't really see why having more than some arbitrary limit of "reasonableness" (If it were up to many people the "reasonable limit" would either be none or one single shot .22 rifle, so frankly I don't really care) has any negative effect on anything other than my ability to store them safely.
I've never been a gun person myself, but my grandpa was. When he died, he left his hunting rifle to me. There are pictures of me at age 4 pointing it at my Kermit the Frog doll. It's pretty hilarious to look back at.
A few years ago, my dad asked if I still wanted it. I said no, because I had it stored away and never really thought about it. I don't hunt. So, he asked me to give it to my uncle, because it would mean a lot to him. He's actually a hunter. So, I agreed and got the thing out of storage. It was actually hard to give up! It had some specialness about it, not only because my grandpa gave it specifically to me, but it also felt rare. Like, something not everyone around the globe could hold and understand. It's hard to explain... It made my uncle very happy, but I sort of regret giving it up.
So, I did have a rifle, although I have no idea what model

I looked through the bans quickly and saw only one person who was not being directly hostile. Another ban a few pages later was just for a poor post.
It seems like normal TL to me, although it also seems as if the moderation has been a little light the last few pages.

Now look at Mexico. Now look at Switzerland. It's wrong to assume correlations like that. Edit: BTW, there aren't no guns in England. There aren't even no illegal guns or no civilian legal guns.
My parents are complete pacifists and they think guns are dangerous. Personally, I think guns are tools and, just like any other tool, perform the intention of the user. A person with a knife could either be cooking or killing someone. You can't blame the knife for being dangerous, you blame the person/his parents/society.
Anyway, I don't currently own any guns, but I plan on buying myself a sidearm for shooting ranges, possibly going to get a Baretta or some other full-sized pistol. I hope to anyway...
I think we have murders in the US for a great number of reasons OTHER than guns. Certainly guns make it easier to commit those murders, but given some of the societal problems we've been encountering, I think murders will go on regardless.
Probably the biggest contributers with guns getting into the wrong hands are shady gun shows and private selling that bypasses background checks. We could easily design a much better system to control gun ownership to those who actually pass the necessary checks. But them the liberties that we wanted, and now we have, so now we deal. I have guns for fun and one for self defense.
lee enfield. guns seem like an expensive hobby though.
Well a lot of guns tend to hold their value, especially shotguns. So even though the upfront cost is very high, it is pretty easy to sell them at a gain or very small loss(all of my experience is in shotguns and semiautomatic rifles) In my experience this is more so true of guns with wood stocks. More of a shotgun person myself, skeet shooting is a lot fun and I grew up grouse hunting a little bit.

wow that reminds me. my grandpa also passed away and he was an avid hunter. all his stuff got dumped into my dads basement which means he might still have it.
neither my dad nor I was a hunter/gun collector, so that would be kinda funny if its still there without even us realizing it.

This is a beauty.
How much does one of these set you back?
Depends on barrel length gauge etc, but expect to pay around 3k for it after taxes.
I only own a 1911 at the moment, but my next purchase (already have the cash, just waiting for it to ship to my dealer) is going to be a Pardini .22lr target pistol.

I've been entertaining the idea to get my license for years now. Unfortunately that takes a bit of time over here and owning a gun is quite expensive. I do go shooting though with a co-worker and a friend who both own a selection.
Oh yes to all the outraged Euros: It's legal to buy assault or sniper rifles in many countries of Europe as well. I know about France and Germany to name two prominent ones. Sure here is a lot of extra regulations and exceptions, but I have been shooting AR-15 variants here and AK-47 in France, and it's perfectly legal. Will go shooting a Sig 552 (?) sniper modification soon, looking forward to it.

I think the point people against guns are trying to make is that it's easier to cross the line and kill someone if you just have to pull a trigger, than to actually walk up to them and either beat or stab them to death. It's actually a huge difference. There are tonnes of statistics and examples regarding this, so it's not even worth arguing. I guess it's one of the charming things with America. Like Englands old monatary system. It makes no sence whatsoever, but it's kind of exotic as an outside observer. + Show Spoiler +
Personally I don't own a gun, but when I was like 14 or so I used to go with a friend to a shooting range and fire pretty weak rifles and just practise accuracy basically. Nothing fancy about it, but it was actually pretty fun. There was this samurai-like shooting teacher who threw yoda-like quotes of wisdom regarding holding your breath while aiming and whatnot around him, so it was something special for sure ^^

So true.... It's sad that people point to the number of gun related crimes as a sign of a problem in America, while ignoring the overall violent crime numbers. Of course we have more gun-related crime, we have a lot of people and a lot of guns. But crime occurs with or without guns. I'd feel no safer in downtown Sydney than I would in downtown Los Angeles.

Having a gun definitely gives you more power to harm ppl than a knife or your bare fists.
I guess there's just a massive cultural gap between some countries. I have never even thought about buying/getting a gun in my life but I guess If I stayed for quite some time in a country with a strong gun culture I'd be very tempted to get one if I knew my neighbours were armed like Rambo.
I almost always back up TL moderators but I think that was harsh. Yes it's off-topic but it was an gut reaction to something that can be seen as extremely shocking. It's almost like an american reading "How many Bin Laden posters do you guys own ?".
A warning would have been more adequate. Just the humble opinion of a long time TL user.

It just fits PERFECTLY into your shoulder. The bubble scope is nice and its balanced so nicely that you experience very little "bob". So much nicer than M16/AR15 imo.
Edit: i need a thesaurus and more words than "nice" -___-;;;.
Kennigit where did you shoot one? I've been looking for one for a year or so.
I would love to get a Pistol or something. Shooting targets and stuff like cans seems really fun. Also, it makes sense since I plan on becoming a Police Officer.

I think you give licensed owners too little credit. Besides, don't stereotype us...we're not all "Kill all sons of bitches" kind of people.
Pancor Jackhammer.
Oh man I would just...oh man. I know it's only got a few prototypes ever built but the whole thing is just...oh man, gunboner. BRB.
What is the first rifle in your post? Karabiner 98k?
I've only got a Ruger 10/22 right now. I'll probably buy a Browning Pump off my dad someday. Eventually ill probably get a match grade AR-15 for competition shooting. As far as pistols, I can't get any yet, but I'll probably get an XMD or a five seven or something, then a 1911 and a .44 magnum.
As far as what it takes to get an automatic weapon, at least where I live (UT) you have to get a class III weapons permit, which is a few hundred dollars and comes with a fairly thorough background check. You also have to get permission from your town's sheriff on why you are getting it, some are quite against it so that can be a problem. Other than that, they are just really expensive. A MP5 for instance, which was made like what, 30 years ago, costs around $16k. Since they banned the production of automatics 20 or so years ago, there's just not that many going around, hence the high prices. (I'm fairly sure this is right, but I don't have any sources)
On March 23 2011 11:34 madcow305 wrote: Wait, in the Canada and US, you can legally purchase automatic rifles?
no you can't own automatic rifles. i'm assuming that the rifles you see here are modded to be semi-automatic. i've always wanted a gun. preferably a pistol. i have no idea why. i just find the mechanics of a gun really fascinating.

That's not quite correct. It's specifically designed so that civilians can't shoot each other with automatic rifles, or semi-automatic rifles with less than six rounds per clip. Never mind all the other guns...

I have the AK-74 for home defense, yes a shotgun might be better but at this time, I have an AK instead =P
The glock is for carrying. Its a bit bulky but until I can get something better it will have to do. Its a Glock 27 compact, .40 cal
I really want any old looking 1911. They look so classic and great! I would mount one on the wall heh. Also looking for a shotgun for home defense/hunting. I would like a better gun for carrying. the .40cal can be a bit bulky at times, and just something a bit lighter/easier to carry would be nice. Lastly, I want to get a .17 HMR for shooting small animals and rodents. I live on a farm and cyotes have attacked my dogs/horses and what not. The AK does the job but its a bit messy during clean up, to say the least. The animal, not the gun that is.
I love how the european government official's voices have reached this forum with thier followers! There have been plenty of signs that guns actually reduce crime then cause it. I think its arizona thats been lately loosening gun laws because of this, because in reality, would you want to try to steal/break into/or attack a person armed? No, and gun laws never truely stop people from owning them.
I'm also glad to say getting a gun license in canada is extremely easy, pass a test and go out buying some awesome guns! So far only shot rifles myself, definitly love doing target practice. I'm really intrested in handguns and would love to shot an automatic but i think automatics are hard to get around here.
Forgot to add my favourite gun i dont think i've seen here.
x1 mosin nagant 1891/30 x1 mosin nagant m44 carbine x1 Colt 1911 A .22 rifle and a shotgun I got as gifts.
I prefer WW2 guns
*guns I plan to own* There is a Luger in the family that will hopefully be mine eventually.
I don't really have a "view" on guns. In texas they are nothing out of the ordinary. They've just always been cool to look at and especially ones with some historical value. Never had a bad time going to the shooting range either and the smell of gunpowder is refreshing.

You can own automatic weapons in certain states in the US, it requires a class 3 permit and involves a lot of wandering through gun laws. Owning one of these weapons is not easy, and maintaining the weapon is even more irritating.
ah pardon my ignorance. =P well then it looks like owning an automatic rifle is a lot more trouble than its worth, unless you're an avid fanatic. i actually want to tear apart an ak 47 in person because it's an engineering beauty. i'm no mechie (i'm biomedical lawll), but you just got to appreciate the elegant design of another engineer.
its so harsh for europeans to see how usa/canada have weapons
to compare the 1, gun the machine gun in this tread is ABSOLUTE illegal in germany u not even are allowed to have it as hunter or whatever automatic weapons are not allowed.
also all others are very hard rules for hunters etc and you need to put them in a closed save etc etc normal people dont have guns in this country cause they are not allowed to
so for me as german i cant talk about weapons but when i see how many guys killed in usa etc by guns and how less it are in germany (in % so people amount dont care) i am perhaps happy that such things are not allowed in germany
so to topic i dont have guns and i am not allowed to anytime soon get ones xD
ps: in one of last rules not only every automatic gun is illegal, also shotguns, alot of rifles and even " throwing stars" are illegal now
Glock 22 RTF2. I like the surface on the grip because its like sandpaper. Don't like the serrations on the slide, should've stayed with the original serrations.
Lee Enfield No.4. I actually replaced the wood furniture with a more modern plastic and with a Tapco 10X scope. Actually hit target 600 yards (550 meters) away with just iron sights.
AK-74. A friend of mine picked one up with 3 magazines and 90 rounds for $350. Took it for a test run and it functioned similar to an AR-15. Also ammunition costs like 1080 rounds for a little less than $150.
Well i don't own any gun currently, while i could according to law (with huge restrictions), ofc no automatic rifles allowed here unless you're in the military. But i did a few months of military service 10 years ago, and i got to use this one, the "AR 70/90" :
When, after the service, i was in a train with some military officer, i told him this thing looked like it came out of a vietnam war movie, like a m-16, and that i thought it was outdated. Wikipedia seems to confirm my thoughts, and it is currently being replaced by the more modern ARX 160. The officer of course got really angry and thought i was trolling or something, but fortunately they're replacing that shit.
I never understood the reason to own firearms, the skill ceiling is just too low. It's just point&click, every child can do that (and we all know what bad things happen when they do).
Lets just ban all firearms and fight any future wars with swords and bows again (and not the high-tech boringbows), far less collateral damage and "accidental" killing of civilians.
I personally would love to get a light compact type of handgun for shooting range type use and basic personal protection. When i was little I've been shooting quit a bit and its really just a fun thing to fire a gun and work on your aim its like training a skill you know is useful. Firearms have been around for so long that their general history and use behind them is so fascinating to me, i do have to admit tho i do feel uncomfortable around them.
I currently work in a grocery store and from day to day we have police officers, forest rangers and consumers walking around with guns and it always gains my attention. Almost in the same way that a passing car does when I'm driving or walking on a side walk, any possible choice by a person to use the weapon either be it a car or gun in a negative (or accident) way can effect someones life. One time I even noticed a costumer walking in our store strolling around with one those grocery cart buggies that looks like a race car for the kids, inside the cart was her 4 year old girl and on her hip she had a compact pistol with like a custom pink grip wrapped in a pink lined holster i thought that was the cutest thing :D

Please don't post if you don't know what you are talking about. Almost any gun posted in this thread can be legally owned in Germany. Modified to semi automatic, but as others have posted that is the case as well in Canada and various states in the US. Germany is armed to the teeth too, including assault rifles, so I wouldn't cite Germany for the "less guns less gun crime" formula.
I wish I owned a gun, but there's a lot of procedures I gotta go through in my country if I wanna have a legal gun, and I guess I just don't want the thing bad enough to go through all the crap.
Yes, I'm well aware of it's size, but I prefer having a full size pistol.
As for other weapons, I'm going to get some sort of assault rifle once I test a few out and a hunting rifle. Turn 21 this November so I've got time to decide.
I am really glad there are not that many gun-owners in germany, if therer were, I'd be so scared that i'd maybe buy myself a gun. lol
I dont know if its seen as a real weapon, but I would like to start biathlon like my grandpa did when he was young. And therefor I gonna buy a Feinwerkbau LG Modell P 75-Biathlon. Never seen anything else than a sports-related thing in weapons (just like a sports-bow or a darts-arrow). Dont understand why someone would buy a shotgun or an automatic-weapon.

There's actually some awesome competitive shotgun events out there. Por exemplo:
But as pro-gun as I am, I still have to agree with you about the assault weapon thing. I personally don't see the point, beyond it being a money-sink. Impractical for home defense, cost-prohibitive for most recreational shooting.
Does anyone have any advice on buying one? What to look for, etc? In the coming weeks I'll be driving around looking at the 91/30s in stock in various gun/outdoor stores. I know that generally you want:
1) Hex receiver 2) No rust/pitting 3) Good muzzle crown or good counterboring 4) Smooth bolt
Also, when you buy them, are they basically ready to fire (assuming there is no visible cosmoline)?

Don't own any guns atm. Want to get a M1911 Springfield Custom Professional or something when I can afford one. Anything that can fire 10,000+ rounds and still function well enough for target shooting, really, doesn't have to be that exact model.
Don't plan on buying many firearms. So might as well buy something that'll last forever.
...That, or some .22 or 9mm pistol that can fit a suppressor. So I don't go hard of hearing in the long run, that happens distressingly often to target shooters.
And definitely a cheap small-caliber rifle or carbine. Something with cheap ammunition so I don't go broke.

Hunting rifles are made for sport, shotguns are made for sport.
People collect knives and use them for cooking. They can be used for killing, etc.
It's almost like an arms race where the enemy has them and if you don't, you're fucked. Not owning a weapon and being skilled to use it for self-defense in America can put you in a very bad situation. Shooting firearms for sport and hunting are very enjoyable. Having to use them for self-defense is not, but it is necessary if the situation occurs.
Please stop posting this kind of crap in this thread. It's about what guns you own/plan to own.

Edit: I suppose I might as well add something more constructive than a one line quip: People tend to imbue guns with a type of malice that other historical weapons are never given. Why is it that the Japanese Katana can be so revered, with certain examples being core family heirlooms, while firearms are regarded as nothing more than instruments of murder?
As human beings we have a darkness. Our history books that are filled with war are proof enough of that. Firearms are just the latest in a long line of tools we use to hurt each other.

While it is true its hard to miss with a shotgun, rifles should not be discounted from the home defense. I live in the middle of no where, and only live with my wife. If I see some one break in, I dont even need to open the door to fire on some one. My AK-74 has rounds made to pierce body armor, it would fly though walls like butter. If you see the door handle jiggle, 4-6 shots should do the trick. Also if you have seen those pictures of of watermelons exploding, just think what it does to your insides!
i do not own a gun and never will. Having a gun on you will always tempt you to use it like in a fight or road rage etc... i think the situation when you trully need a gun, e.g. someone wants to kill you are too rare to justify such an investment.
edit: maybe i would consider owning one i lived in a remote place with high crime rate

Despite that, it's perfectly reasonable to own and maintain weapons and fire them at shooting ranges. It's a hobby, and I have friends who are into it.

I enjoy watching the biathlon during the Olympics and from my understanding they have really watered down the shooting competitions. If this trend continues, the biathlon may find itself being phased out in favor of political correctness.

I don't actually own any guns, but my father was the chairman of a local shooting club when I was younger. I have used a variety of pistols and rifles for target shooting, and I grew up learning how to handle guns safely. The safety training seems to have worked, because later on when I was doing military service, I noticed the conditioning against pointing a firearm at another human being made the combat drills a bit awkward at first
Anyway, here's some of the guns I've used (some google image searches):
I'll skip over the 9mm pistols and go straight to my favourite handgun: http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6612/peacekeeper6de.jpg Colt Peacekeeper .357 Magnum with black finish and a rubber grip. Damned fun for outdoors target range. Not exactly a a gun made for target shooting, but the long barrel means it's rather accurate nonetheless, makes a group the size of a palm from 100 meters.
On March 23 2011 18:11 thoradycus wrote: Im not from USA so i wanna ask..are sniping rifles allowed to be bought/owned? Or heavy-duty guns like machine guns?
Most "sniper rifles" are re-purposed hunting rifles. Sure nowadays you're starting to see militaries adopt purpose-build rifles, but any long rifle with a good set of optics can be used by a "sniper."
So the guy who posted the bow and the sword earlier also makes you sick?
No. Most collector swords I've seen are rathe harmless and collected for mostly aesthetic value. If someone has a assortment of finely sharpened knives that he goes swinging around in he's back yard, then yes, that is equally sick. I don't think there is anything wrong with owning a sportsbow if you are actually a sportsman or a hunting rifle if you are a hunter. There is a big difference between that an owning a AK47 tho.
I can't own a gun since I live in the Netherlands, however If i were to ever have one(And be fucking rich, as these things are like nowhere to be found right now), I'd get a Karge98k WW2 German bolt action rifle or a Russian Mosin-Nagant. Then again, only possible If I move to like America and have tons of cash. Then they will probably be in a glass case instead of me using them, but whatever. I'd want them anyway.
On March 23 2011 18:11 thoradycus wrote: Im not from USA so i wanna ask..are sniping rifles allowed to be bought/owned? Or heavy-duty guns like machine guns?
No, not at all. Plenty of "dangerous" guns are allowed to be bought with the correct permits though.
Also.. gun's aren't just for self defense people. Unless you keep your gun loaded, and nearby while you sleep(which is really irresponsible if you have children, or even stupid people near you).. I have a shotgun that I use for skeet and trap, and sporting clays. These are fun, even competitive for some shotgun sports. My personal favorite is sporting clays, which simulates "hunting" situations using clay pigeons... I just shoot for fun, my grandfather got me into it.. I haven't shot since he passed though.
My shotgun is in a safe, and unloaded, the ammo is not with the gun. If someone came into my house, I'm hoping they don't have a gun, cause I'll probably use a golf club or something.

80% of all americans that get shot inside their own domestic get shot by their very own gun. Good luck.
I was taught guns because I had to go to military service here. Weapons are made for killing. You can still find a technical art aspect of it, you can collect them, but then you should not have any ammunition at home in my eyes. If you think you're defending yourself, I hope for your own safety that fact 1 does never hit on you.
On March 23 2011 18:11 thoradycus wrote: Im not from USA so i wanna ask..are sniping rifles allowed to be bought/owned? Or heavy-duty guns like machine guns?
You're allowed to own rifles with telescopic sights. I don't think any state has bans on normal rifle telescopic sights, though military-grade night vision stuff is generally restricted or only sold to the military. I might be wrong on the last bit, though.
The United States allows you to own automatic weapons that were made before...1986, I think. But the supply of weapons willing to be sold is very low, so automatic weapons can run in the tens of thousands of dollars to purchase. And there's the background checks and tax filings and everything. Plus a tax stamp or something on every auto-weapon you buy.
States can legislate against weapons separately, though they can't ban guns outright. So it really depends where you live or, if you're rich enough, where you keep your guns.
And good luck finding any "recent" automatic weapons on the market. Only going to get harder as the years go by...someone's probably going to overturn that 1986 provision on automatic weapons eventually*, but it might take a while.
So guns that are collected for aesthetic value are cool?
Anyways, to the Finn on the last page that posted the Baikals: do you have any experience with other types of target pistols? I'm looking to get one, but there isn't that big a market for Eastern European pistols around these parts. Mostly my choices are a Walther/Hammerli, a Benneli, or a Pardini.
Ah, since people here seem gun-happy I have been wondering, what are the limits on getting guns?I know that different states probably have different laws. But is it possible to actuall get things such as a M60 machine gun legally?Where do they draw the line?Is an RPG acceptable(oke that sounds a little stupid but you get the point).I was wondering where they draw the line(this not not flamebaiting I genuinly want to know)
Also lol @ the guy above me: ask for a warning, get a temp ban......get owned.

You're allowed to own rifles with telescopic sights. I don't think any state has bans on normal rifle telescopic sights, though military-grade night vision stuff is generally restricted or only sold to the military. I might be wrong on the last bit, though.

Regarding RPGs: you ARE allowed to purchase explosives...but it's horrendously expensive and, once again, requires a background check and even more licenses.
For example, you could buy M203 HE grenades if you really wanted to, but each grenade would have to be registered as a Destructive Device, and slapped a 200$ tax on top of whatever you're paying for the grenade.
I don't think any legitimate supplier of RPGs sells their products to anybody other than military/paramilitary organizations, so that point is moot. You CAN, however, legally own tanks and tank guns...as long as you own the land where you're going to drive that thing and shoot it. As far as I know, there are no road legal tanks.

Oddly enough, it's actually easier for someone to legally own an RPG than it is to own a fully auto rifle (at least in California). Not even joking. Politicians go crazy for fully autos, but explosives have managed to slip under the radar for the most part.

I actually have some similar guns to you. My dad, his brothers and I keep all of our guns in my dad's gun closet. All in all we have a good dozen rifles and shotguns. I only own a browning rifle and a remington shotgun. We also have 2 compound bows. I enjoy hunting pheasant with guns, but real men hunt the deer, elk and bear with bows.
I use my guns to fire at the gun range and occasionally to hunt. I used to use my bow at the archery range, but now I don't use it anymore. It just sits sexily in the gun closet.
So the guy who posted the bow and the sword earlier also makes you sick?

To add to that: It's easy to (accidently or intentionally) kill someone with a gun and the other person has no way to protect himself. Yes, there is usually a safety switch and what not, but one accidental discharge and someone has a hole in his chest.
Opposed to that it's really hard to kill someone accidently with an exhibition or show fight sword (afaik other (actually sharp) swords require a weapons permit in germany, never cared) as they are really blunt, no sharp edges allowed (which is imho a good thing). Killing intentionally is possible as they are still made of iron and quite heavy, but you have to get really close with a really big weapon and it's still possible to defend against that. It is possible to accidently kill someone with a bow with a lot of bad luck (since usually the arrows are as blunt as the swords), killing someone intentionally is a lot harder (anyone who tried to shoot a target with a bow without a lot of practice should know that even at 5m distance hitting isn't that easy).
That said, if people want to gather weapons and put them on the wall and never use them (so no ammo anywhere near them) it's totally fine by me. I don't know anyone who owns a gun, nor do i know anyone who would want to or sees a reason for them, but well... cultural difference. Maybe just my prejudice because in my region we have a lot of viking museums, viking festivals, etc.

Hmm, not much personal experience really, but maybe something like Walther P22 Target, or Benelli MP-95. None it's illegal in Denmark, unless it's for hunting/collecting/etc. Noone in my extended family has a gun either.
TBH I couldn't really see what I would need a gun for anyway. I probably wouldn't have the mentality to fire on against another human being if my house was robbed. Also getting robbed at gunpoint happens so rarely in Denmark, because hardly anyone has a gun. A few gangs have them, but they tend to shoot only at each other.
People in the US are allowed to have guns because it's a constitutionally given right. Doesn't matter how the argument goes, for or against, it's not really going to change. The only thing they can change is the difficulty of obtaining and keeping one i guess

would you rather try to infiltrate an unarmed store or a maximum security prison? why is that? because of the potential blowback. then the prison doesn't get messed with. same principle for people who are armed.
and if one armed person tries to mess with another, it stops before they can go on a rampage shooting. it's like a piranha trying to eat another piranha rather than a coyote in a flock of chickens: there's like a 100 other piranhas to keep you in check, and thus arises and implicit code of conduct without any organization due to sheer self-interest and distribution of power.
the simple fact is the guy with a gun > guy without a gun. guy with a gun is not > guy with a gun.
I enjoy target shooting and don't have an issue with people owning firearms. Obviously it's a very heated issue on both sides, regardless of where the people are from. I would imagine many people in favor live in the United States as we have the Second Amendment.
I hope this will not only educate you on where Americans are coming on this subject from but also make you more familiar with how our "so crazy I'm shocked it sort of works" system of government.
Dont own guns but, handsguns suck in accuracy. I could hardly hit a man sized target from 15m (45ft) but I could hit a palm sized target reliably from 150m (450ft) with a AK-47 based assault rifle.
My gun is the pride of my life. I also love shooting people with it. Actually, guns fascinate me so much that I have plans on buying more of these bad boys, just to have them lying around in different areas of the house incase someone unwanted enters the house. Did I mention I love shooting people?
On a more serious note, do people realize guns are designed to hurt and kill? People's fascinations with guns is one of the things that disgusts me the most in this world ಠ.ಠ
I can understand a hand gun for self defense if you are really scared, but what about all those rifle ? Machine gun mg3 wtf ? A gattling seriously ? Those kind of weapon are design to kill many guy, not to defend yourself...

Recreational and sports shooting? That's what the overwhelmingly majority of guns are used for.

I'd be willing to bet Ted Kennedy's Car has killed more people than all the gun owners and their guns in this thread combined.
I own a 7mm Rem Mag for deer 12 Gauge with a 3" choke for turkey, My grandpa's old carbine from when he passed away. (we don't shoot it, but it is a cool piece of history to have. I also have a mini-14 which we use for varmints. .357 magnum for sport shooting, haven't yet tried it on any game. A couple more shotguns in the gun case. Not keen as to what at the moment, alot of them inherited from my grandpa, but all in working order.
If we had a home intruder (burglar), I probably wouldn't fight back. Its best to give him what he wants, double time. Chances are, hes probably just looking for valuable shit to steal, and is more scared as I am. Only when he starts coming into rooms after a verbal warning does he get buckshot.

I'm pretty sure you can get a license, and maybe even call in advance if you are planning a hunting trip, every state has a minor differences in laws though.
I really dont undestand the Americans and their guns lol in the UK it is impossible to legally own a gun due to heavy prison time and strict laws on who is allowed them, yet if i think of a typical British farmer, i imagine him watchin over his cows and crops with a gun lol,,,,,u think british farmers buy their guns online :p?

No guns , you need to have a professionally made gun safe and have it inspected by the police , can only own handguns (apart from some farmers) , overall too much hassle. All because of the Port Arthur massacre , i've read into it , very suspicious.
I've got a couple bows though , an italian made 55 pound hunting bow and a South Korean 26 pound target bow.Archery is very big in South korea as i'm sure alot of folks here are aware , their bows are high quality but also affordable. The Italin cost around twice as much (around $450 or so) but it is high quality with solid oak riser , brass fittings and sturdy feel.If my camera wasn't broken i would post images.
Also they are trying to ban crossbows here now also , it is ridiculous.
Cant understand how someone wants to own weapons that could kill hundreds of people. How would you feel if someone breaks in steels your guns and kills other people with them. Woudn´t you feel kinda responsible. And don´t tell me there isn´t a possibility of a break in. IMO(!!) you shoudn´t own stuff that only purpose is to harm people. And its kinda easy: point and shoot. It shoudn´t be so easy to end someones life.

I hope to someday own a gun, nothing too fancy, just a small calibre handgun. Mostly for self defense (there is a large neighborhood of unfavourable people near my house and sometimes they can get pretty agressive). Ofc theres going to be a shitton of laws and stuff preventing me from using it in any other way than self defense, living in Canada.
Edit: Although i've always secretly wanted an AA-12. Ofc the thing is military issue so i will never get anywhere close to one.
Have 8 shotguns, usually sport one of the side by sides 12 ga. Got a .38 special snub nose and a .32 A black powder .50 from back in the day Bunch of 22's, one from early 1900's I believe.
Btw inherited all my guns, only bought 1 shotgun myself.
Well i do some sport shooting...or is it called marksman...not sure about the english word for Sportschütze. I own an Air Riffle...FEINWERKBAU Kleinkalibergewehr Modell 2700 Universal if you want to look it up.
I practise for three-position competitions in my region. Riffle is always located at our shooting range...ammunition too.
I've always been intrigued by sniper rifles. However in the netherlands you basicly don't get to own guns easily. Would love to own one and learn to shoot cans like a kilometer away in a field. Can you actually do this in the US or are even sniper rifles forbidden ?
As a rule of thumb, most thieves don't mess around with or try to attack people who have automatic rifles or shotguns pointed at them. A shotgun or rifle has a much bigger psychological effect on people than a handgun or baseball bat. That's why it's semi-justified to say your shotgun or rifle is for "home defense" or "self defense", but in reality it's never going to need to be fired at an intruder anyway.
That aside, I don't like the gun situation in America and I think it should be changed.
You can't shoot anything unless your pretty far out of city limits like... say up in the mountains or on your own private property deep in the woods. Coppers can still tell you to stop if they want, just not enforced in some places that are safe and secluded. Those places are getting harder and harder to find tho obviously, times a changing.
Or you can just go to any of the gun ranges, they are all over in my area. In fact one is like a quarter mile from my house. Has a wall of guns to choose from that reminds you of a call of duty game or something.
anyone with an ar15/m4/shit like that have any recommendation for scopes? i've been thinking about getting an eotech (i would get an acog but they are soo expensive).

If I had the money ($500ish I think), I could go buy a Remington 700 right now, after a background check. I'm not sure on something like a Barrett though, but a civilian model I imagine would be the same.

Without trying to debate too much, I have to say... I never thought I'd be a 'gun' person. When I was growing up, my father hunted, but I was just never all that interested in it. Add to that my mother actively discouraging me from them, as she had a friend kill herself via handgun when she was growing up.
So all in all I wasn't too interested in weapons... until about 5 years ago... I went to my friends college graduation party at his parents house out in foothills of Colorado... Their parents own about 40 acres of land... One of my other friends was in the military, and after he got out he was a self described 'gun nut'... He brought out with him about a dozen different firearms, and over the course of the day he let most people shoot whatever they wanted to.
First time firing an AR-15 is all it took for me to become a 'gun guy'... Simply put, it is fun to shoot guns. I'd welcome anyone from around the world to come shooting with me and my friends, and while I can't guarantee that YOU will have fun, there is no possible way you'd leave without seeing how this can be a legitimate hobby and is no more dangerous then driving when it's done properly.

Thats not the case mate. As long as you're a member of a gun club, over 18, have a gun safe, and have the correct licenses you can own firearms in sweden.
Man, reading over this thread has just shocked me into realizing how naive much of the world is. I mean honestly, this is a world governed by the aggressive use of force, period, whether that offends your sensibilities or not. Just the notion of being dependent upon someone else for my protection, not by choice but by law, is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. People are really so eager and so adamant about handing over their right to self-defense because they "don't see the reason for having it?" Do you not realize that the whole of human history is one group imposing it's will on another? Do you not realize your attitudes have given a complete monopoly on power to the one organization that is most likely to abuse that power against you? I'm sorry for making an argument here, I just had to get this off my chest because I am face-palming so hard reading this thread.
I am so grateful for the wisdom in our constitution, and the knowledge that there are still patriots determined to defend it.
On topic, I plan to own a handgun and eventually a rifle, though I do not know which ones. All I have ever shot is an M-16 in the army and I am actually very ignorant about guns.

Though I'm emigrating to Japan once I finish my degree, so....I don't think they allow any firearms over there. Maybe it would be better just to not get one. x.x

NRA has a very strong marketing team, i must admit it :D
personally, i don't own any guns, however, I may be interested some day. it is cool to see what everyone has/wants though.
offtopic:
for those curious about automatic rifles in the US :
the sale of automatic rifles is basically illegal with a few exceptions (as mentioned previously in this thread), therefore, as mentioned earlier yet again weapons which are often considered pure automatic (ak's m4's etc) are sold semi-automatic. so, you go to a gunshow[these are like conventions where guns/knives are sold] and you buy a converter kit (which isn't illegal lol) and voila you have an automatic weapon so you can have swiss venison. i'm joking about the swiss venison part.
anyway, if you guys would really own these gun you would post actually pictures of them, not some weapons you saw in CoD and found with google pictures.
I got a little bb gun when I was pretty young, I loved to target practice with that when we'd go camping. When I turned 13 I got a Ruger 10/22 and I love it. It's so fun just to go out to the desert and target practice. I've gone rabbit hunting a few times but I'd still prefer to just target practice.
I think i might buy a taser gun in the future for self-defense. Its good because I won't have to deal with feeling bad by accidentally killing a criminal (or deal with the messy legal consequences). I wonder if they'll have more advanced versions in the future too? Perhaps something that can arc static discharges onto a target . Sounds fun, hopefully it just incapacitates them

my plan on buying: Aug
Wait what? You realize people might not be home to take pictures of said guns and using a google image to show what the gun looks like....
On topic: That said my family used to own a few shotguns as my dad and I used to go hunting. When my dad passed away my mom gave the shotguns to a family friend we used to hunt with. Some day, I would to go back and do some skeet/trap shooting again since I have some fond memories with it.

Why is this an appropriate post? Read the message at the top of the thread. There have been plenty of warns and bans for being off-topic, and you are off-topic.
Anyway:
I actually just checked what model my Ruger was and it turns out it's a 10/22. Seems to be a pretty popular rifle! Mine has some terrible little scope on it that I'll probably take off at some point.
Well, I do like guns, mostly handguns and I only plan on owning two handguns in the future. I'm not an expert, I just think they look very cool (of course they're reputable manufacturers though):
Definitely want a Glock too. This is the 4th generation model. Not sure of the calibre or size, but either 9mm or .40 S&W. Would also like a compact model, but I think in Canada, the barrel cannot be less than a certain length or it's considered a prohibited weapon, instead of restricted (I think, not an expert).

Thats not the case mate. As long as you're a member of a gun club, over 18, have a gun safe, and have the correct licenses you can own firearms in sweden.
True enough , but I think that it's too much of a hazzle(it's a serious pain) to aquire a license , besides it's not possible to get a license for a fully automatic rifle and or any military purpose weapons (Like ak.47 and the likes of it) ... So there are really not any guns I'm interested in that I'm able to buy here (even if I had a license)

Those are the ones I'd like!
XD
The thing that would make me hesitant to actually buy a glock is that they pretty much have zero safety features.

There's a safety on the trigger and on the back of the grip.
Edit: may have been mistaken about the safety on the back of the grip, but i seem to remember one being on the Glock 40 I fired some years ago. Some quick googling lead me to the wikipedia article on Glocks, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glock_pistol#Safety
I read one time that the CIA uncovered a terrorist hide out with 2 .50 cal sniper rifles and plans to shoot down air force 1 when it took off. 1 shot from a .50 sniper rifle would rip a whole the size of your head through both sides of that plane. also able to shoot 10 rounds in under 10 seconds accurately, from a distance of 1.5km. imagine what 2 of them would've done.

1.) Interesting. Source?
2.) I feel like unless you were an extremely experienced shooter and also a fucking cyborg, shooting 10 rounds from a .50 Barrett in under 10 seconds would rip your arm off.
3.) Shooting isn't easy, and I'm pretty sure you'd have a hard time shooting a fucking air plane.

Well, I don't know the mechnical features of the weapon, but I thought Glock was wellknown for it's safety features? They ARE called "safe-action pistols."
TRIGGER SAFETY As the first of the three GLOCK “Safe Action” safety features, the trigger safety prevents inadvertent firing by lateral forces on the trigger. Releasing the trigger will automatically reactivate the safety.
FIRING PIN SAFETY The GLOCK firing pin safety is a solid hardened steel pin which, in the secured state, blocks the firing pin channel, rendering the igniting of a chambered cartridge by the firing pin impossible. The firing pin safety is only pushed upward to release the firing pin for firing when the trigger is pulled and the safety is pushed up through the backward movement of the trigger bar. Releasing the trigger will automatically reactivate the firing pin safety.
DROP SAFETY In the line of duty it may happen that a loaded pistol is dropped on the floor. Contrary to conventional pistols, the GLOCK drop safety prevents unintentional firing of a shot through hard impact. When the trigger is pulled, the trigger bar is guided in a precision safety ramp. The trigger bar is deflected from this ramp only in the moment the shot is triggered.
I keep looking at picking up a Springfield XD in .357SIG, but I kinda want to get my concealed carry first, with that prohibitive of a price tag. My friends XD .40 was a dream, was plinking a monster can at ~25ft first time I shot it.
This thread is slightly disturbing from the perspective of a person who lives in a country where you just can't get a gun, unless you actually need it.. Oh well
Planning on building a retro AR-15 within the next few months, I'm glad the gun buying panic has died down and prices have started to fall a bit. It's still pretty insane that WASR-10s are going for more than $400 nowadays though.
I can understand hunting rifles and such and I've done finnish military service but the fact that anyone can buy an assault rifle or a pistol in the america just seems so fucked up to me. Those guns have one and only purpose and that is killing human beings. I can't understand why they are common merchandise.

This is not a gun control debate! Please make a new thread if you want to talk about gun control.
It seems kinda dangerous to me owning an assault rifle, that... you know... can shoot trough cars and trough 10 cm wall and kill ppl with 1 bullet, but i live in EU so not to be afraid of that As for me, i own no guns atm but i am planing on buying a revolver, just for the looks and for the braging, if for some reason i ever get a licence that allow me to own one, but chances are pretty thin for that here ;9

watch future weapons. you lay down, it has a floating barrel so there is little to no recoil.
I can't own, fire, touch or look at a gun until I'm ~33. I didn't want to spend 6 months in the army and chose civil service, so I had to sign a paper saying that I do not like guns.
Maybe I will get one in a few(lol) years, but it's pretty difficult here...

Holy mother of destruction.. ONLY 4 GUNS, one of them an automatic assault rifle? Call me a liberal or whatever but why would you ever need that kinda weaponry for self defense? Also you want a .50 cal? You scared of terrorists coming to your town with an APC or what?

I have my assault rifle for killing human beings. That's its only purpose that I have it for. Same with my Glock. The gun is used in situations where my life is in danger, and if it is, I will shoot to kill. If I am put in that situation where my life or my loved ones lives are in danger because some one wants to harm us, I wont hesitate to pull the trigger. I like shooting on the range and what not but, when it comes down to it, I bought the guns to defend myself and family.

why the heck would anyone want a 7.62mm joke that you cannot even aim with lolol
because you can bury it in mud, run it over with a hummer, pick it up, cock it back and fire it like it was brand new.
oh right. good call i forgot how durable those bas****s were. we were kinda allowed to try it but not like drop it . never really tried screwing over a weapon

3.) they shoot it as it is taking off on the run way, not hard when you are wearing a ghillie suit and are quite close to the plane. its not like they were going to snipe it out of the sky...the plan was to shoot it down at a runway that the plane takes off and goes off over a cliff somewhere in the united states not sure which airport runway ends with the cliff but it goes out onto the ocean...or something like that. and firing 20+ shots from 2 of these rifles you're bound to hit the plane with at least 1 shot, and that's all it takes. considering they are designed to disable a TANK

TBH I bet some of our sharpshooters could shoot a plane out of the sky. British and American snipers can make some AMAZING shots..
Guys what do you actually do with them? Do they allow assault rifles at a shooting range, and/or do you just go to the woods and shoot at trees (can you do that btw legally, I mean outside designated shooting ranges)?
It seems like a well expensive hobby and I'd be pretty pissed to have an M4A1 and and not be able to shoot at stuff
Btw I'd buy this baby if they allowed it, you know to compensate for my my lack of manliness (I mean the bigger Magnum)
I just have my BlasTech DH-11 because anything bigger draws too much attention. I just got a T-21 imperial standard issue but I think it needs a new plasma core (anyone know who sells those, these days? I used to get them from a shop on Alderaan, but you know).
I'm selling a used DH17 short carbine if anyone is interested, 67% durability remaining, 4500 credits obo

i dunno, they did it on top 10 best weapons of all time. ak-47 was #1. ive heard stories of soldiers in afghanistan picking up ak's because they are more reliable than the standard issue m16, if less accurate who cares, it fires a bigger round, and think about how much spare ammo is left laying around over there.
until the scar-h and scar-L are standard issue i think alot of soldiers will start using ak-47's because of the ease of use and reliability.
also the scar-H and scar-L are capable of picking up different sized rounds and firing them example: u have 1 clip of 7.62 and one clip of 5.56, you can empty the first clip, and then pop in the second clip and shoot different rounds. extremely versatile, lightweight, and powerful

That's funny, because the longest shot in history was like 1.25 miles, where 1.5 kilometers is roughly that I believe. Also, barrets are not easy to shoot. Also, you can not shoot 10 shots in 10 seconds accurately from a mother fucking barrett .50 cal. Not to mention Air Force 1`s airbase is pretty much locked downs for 4-5 miles around it. Also, unless you have a source you are full of bullshit.
Hint: go watch some WWII aerial combat footage. Note that those are .50 caliber machine guns with armor piercing incendiary rounds (not ball ammo, as is commonly available) and 20-37mm cannons they are shooting at airplanes. Also note how many rounds it can take for many planes to actually go down under said hail of fire.
Longest recorded sniper kill was made at 2.47km with a bolt action rifle firing .338 Lapua (the infamous Arctic Warfare Magnum from Counter-Strike, actually). Which works out to 1.53 miles.
A professor of mine used to teach on an Air Force base during the end of the cold war. One of his students told him about a Soviet pilot who had flown south and landed in S.Korea to defect. He was quite an asset to the TOP GUN program because he could fly like a real soviet. During a briefing where the Soviet pilot was present he was asked, "So what are USSR's invasion plans for America?" The Soviet pilot scoffed and replied, "We will fight you abroad, but never a land invasion of America, your populous is too well armed."
We have such a heavily armed citizenry that it deters violence here in Texas. In fact in Houston a man witnessed a robbery in progress at his next door neighbor's and stopped it, killing both the robbers. A grand jury dropped the charges of murder. What message does this send to thugs? Don't rob that neighborhood, because the neighbors will shoot you even if the residents aren't home. I like that.
Sorry OP, I don't think it's possible to have a thread purely about guns themselves. I get tired banning people who can't resist bringing gun politics into this thread.
