Which one of these keyboards would work well with the Macintosh?
I kind of want to get an ADB to USB adapter just so I can use my old Apple Extended Keyboard, but it doesn't exactly match anything I have now

Actually I wanted to get a Filco, but it's 40 Euro more expansive than the Zowie here in Germany and it's not even available with German layout right now ( If I pay so much for a keyboard it better have German layout ^^ )

They simply shipped their inventory to Amazon for Amazon to fulfill the order processing and delivering of the product. http://www.keyboardco.com/ That being said, that is amazing, a Filco for $150, and eligible for Amazon Prime.

Filcos are so sexy that this is tempting, gahh They still have Filcos in stock over at PCHome. Assuming they still do the discounted shipping, it's going to be some 20 or 30 USD cheaper than ordering straight from Amazon (even with Amazon's super saver shipping) and arrive at the same time a shipment from Amazon would. But it's your decision, of course. Geekhack has a nice guide posted on buying from PCHome earlier in the thread if you want a Filco. I have one and it's amazing; I absolutely love it.

The Keycabs/finish on the Das keys is probably slightly less durable than that of the Filcos (Or so I hear). And the only glossy parts of my Das take literally 20 seconds to wipe off if I get a finger print on it or it just gets dusty. That and Filco has a Tenkeyless board which is nice. Its probably worth the extra $50 (Or $25), but I don't think the switches will be any different.

All links to Filco boards just go to the main homepage :/ Ouch... they were still in stock when I posted that. ![]() ![]() Looks like the only option as far as North America goes are Armygroup, Keyboardco, and the Amazon link posted earlier. I'd still say get a Filco if you can't wait for the Leopold keyboards to come out from EK. A couple of reasons why some would choose the Leopolds over the Filco are the Leopolds have better keycaps, detachable USB cable, and (supposedly) cheaper price.

The link to their Leopold selection is up now: http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold I don't think anyone looking for a great mechanical keyboard with awesome quality will be able to resist 120~ USD with shipping. Absolutely love, love, love this.

Jinro uses black widow. And termit, if you are a very competetive player, the 6gv2 key's are very hard to press, requiring double the activation force of brown switches. They are also linear and have to be pushed almost all the way down, while blues and browns actually activate half way. This is great for touch typing which someone with very high apm will be using. You want to put the least amount of stress on your fingers as carpal tunnel and the ulnar nerve plague professional gamers. With that said it might not make the biggest difference, but i take my hands very seriously and I dont want keys that are hard to press. I also personally find the black switches unusable. It's too hard to press and you have to bottom out the key. I returned a 6gv2 a while back and stuck with my dt35 until I got the black widow. With the blackwidow or with blues you need half the force to actuate the key and it makes a click half way down. So much bs in this post I don't even know where to begin. First of all, blacks do not require "double" the activation force of browns. Browns are 45g and blacks are 60g. Blues are 50g actuation, but require 60g to get over the tactile bump so they're not much different than blacks. The force required to bottom out on browns and blues is also 60g, so if you're gaming or otherwise bottoming out your keys, you're not going to notice any difference. As for bottoming out, the blacks are actually harder to bottom out because of the linear force required, as opposed to a tactile switch like blues which will have less resistance after the click is felt. Browns actuate at 45g, blacks at 60g and blues at 50g. You got that part right. But what you actually missed that bottoming requires 55g, 80g and 60g, respectively. So bottoming a linear might feel a bit harder because IT IS HARDER. As for "gaming", I don't bottom out my keys unless I'm playing an FPS game. Some keyboard manufacturers (like SteelSeries) like to say that gaming means bottoming out because they want to sell their keyboards. Bottoming out keys at 200APM would be a huge waste, whereas bottoming in an FPS is not a huge deal since you usually hold the keys down for a while. On February 07 2011 05:57 Cel.erity wrote: Additionally, you feel the click of blues before they actuate, which can lead to you thinking you hit a key but actually didn't, so you have to bottom out more than normal. That is why, for function, browns and blacks are superior to blues, but a lot of people like the clicky feel. This is the biggest point in your post I'm having problems with. I have a keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches, and at some point I spent about 5 minutes *deliberately* trying to make a key click without actuating it. You know what happened? I failed. It is pretty obvious you've never used a keyboard with blue switches for a longer period of time. On February 07 2011 05:57 Cel.erity wrote:There is nothing at all wrong with typing on blacks if you have naturally forceful fingers as I do. Also, for gaming, it feels so great to have no bumps and no accidental keypresses, and you can double-tap much faster than with other keys due to the stronger spring. What I really love about the Brown switches in RTS games is that they only need a very small amount of force to actuate, but still have a small tactile bump so you actually feel when you actuate a key. Also, contrary to your findings, I find double-tapping on browns easier. On February 07 2011 05:57 Cel.erity wrote:I would highly advise a serious gamer to look at either browns or blacks depending on your preference, and only buy blues if you really like the tactile response. I would highly advise people to test out different switches for longer periods of time before buying. But if you really want to buy a keyboard without trying, don't buy blacks if you ever plan on typing or playing RTS games with your new keyboard. I wrote a longer post on Blues vs. Browns in another thread, people can find it there if they're having a hard time deciding between those two. Just my $0.02.
