lol what? That made no sense whatsoever... He found out a new word? It makes perfect sense I assure you, I think the reason you find it strange is English is not your first language.
While it may not be my first language, I understand it perfectly, rest assured. What didn't make any sense was your argument: He thinks a pun is clever because he found out a new word?

actually its quite witty, fauxer does mean fake boxer
foxer makes no sense on the other hand
Fauxer isn't witty when you have to shoehorn it in by mispronouncing it.

Tell me how you pronounce FauxeR then. Do it and show me a source. Wait, you can't, cause we just made the damn word up.

You don't speak it perfectly, because you're failing to understand the answer - which you actually wrote in that quote there.

If you are just going to make up words then why choose Fauxer? Why not find something that has wit?

Foxer has wit?

I never said it did. Fauxer tries too hard to be witty.

More than fauxer...
(F)ake B(oxer) vs a miserable pun. I don't have anything against puns, but it's so... obvious... it's not funny... It's not clever. If a halfwit could come up with something, it isn't witty, by definition.

I actually like FakeBoxer quite a bit.
Otherwise, go with Boxer[arnc]

Fauxer isn't witty when you have to shoehorn it in by mispronouncing it. Tell me how you pronounce FauxeR then. Do it and show me a source. Wait, you can't, cause we just made the damn word up. Typically when you create a portmanteau you pronounce the component parts the way they're supposed to be pronounced. Otherwise it's clumsy. Just saying.
Another reason I like FoxeR is because it has a meaning to us but is also open to other interpretations. It isn't really restricted to being a silly joke.

Faux as Fox has a long history through Faux News, the US news channel. Foxer just looks stupid, because it has no connotations of being fake without knowing the history behind it. Fauxer is immediately obvious to (most people) that it's something to do with being fake.
|
It's so obvious because you use "faux" in everyday language?
Or you just don't like it because it's complicated and french?
I honestly thought people on TL were better than this. I'm outright disappointed.
No, the name has to be simple and easy for anyone to invent. Foxer isn't any more of a word than Fauxer. Except one makes an awesome leap into having meaning within meaning.
|
Allright, valid arguments for both names. I still like Fauxer better though, and that has my vote

Hoaxer?
Being French, I like Fauxer better than Foxer - though most English will likely mispronounce it.
|
Fauxer even has the advantage to transcend english. Foxer implies foxes every damn time I read it.
Faux Boxer = Fauxer for french people. English people use the word "faux" anyway.
It's not as forced as people are claiming it is. It was said in passing on the sc2 forums as a joke.

You're disappointed because some choose not to celebrate your butchering of a word to create a silly pun?

where did EllenPage even come from? Is that his actual battle.net account?
