The asvab is pretty easy, I'd just recommend doing a brief refresher on things like electronic circuits and basic engine stuff.

You're taking the standard asvab, which is 10 sections:

Word Knowledge (WK)
Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
Mechanical Comprehension (MC)
Shop Information (SI)
Automotive Information (AI)
Electronics Information (EI)
Mathematics Knowledge (MK)
General Science (GS)
Paragraph Comprehension (PC)
Assembling Objects (AO)
Verbal Expression (VE)

and there might be more tests after that for the AF. I took it for the navy a while back and there was an extra speed-coding test.

Four of the sections (Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Word Knowledge) make up your AFQT score, which is a percentile score. This score is basically your "qualification" score that determines your basic eligibility.

The rest of the sections are then used in your composite score, which determines your aptitude for certain fields and which area they will funnel you towards.

Air Force Composite Scores:
Goes by Standard AFQT score AR + MK + (2 x VE)
G - General: Verbal Expression (WK plus PC) and Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
M - Mechanical: Mechanical Comprehension (MC), General Science (GS) and 2 times Auto & Shop Information (AS)
A - Administrative: Numerical Operations * (NO), Coding Speed * (CS), and Verbal Expression (WK plus PC)
E - Electrical: Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Electronics Information (EI), and General Science (GS)

I wasn't very prepared when I went in, and the mechanical stuff caught me by surprise, but I still got a 99, so it's really not that hard. Just glance over the basic stuff about engines and circuits. The stuff I remember asked you to match names to basic engine parts, look at engine diagrams and determine where pressure/flow would be if certain pumps or chambers moved. Esentially, if you know how an engine basically works, you'll be able to deduce the answers from the graphs and diagrams.

why didn't my recruiter tell me about this then
i took the practice asvab, and got 96, but it only had language / math questions
i asked my recruiter if the real asvab would be the same as this but longer, and he said yes

if i don't get 93 or higher on this im going to be completely boned and I really don't know what I will do. I don't know much about electronics or engines.

Yes. Those four make up your AFQT score, which is similar to how your practice asvab was tested and scored. As far as I know, the other scores only help your composite, not hurt your percentile. They never told me about them either, and I panicked a bit when I saw them on the test, but they're really not that bad. What do you want to get into that you need the category I score?

I don't know what "category 1 score" means.

I need to get 93 or higher so that I qualify as "EWQ(extremely well qualified)". The air force has an excess of recruits right now and if I score that high I will push others back and get into basic / get a job much much quicker. I can't really afford to continue waiting as I have already had to wait so long because of the ADD medication (controlled substance) I used to take.

being the honest fool that I am, when they asked me, I immediately told them that I had smoked pot. the recruiter then told me that it wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't in the last 6 months (which i have, a lot.. but they don't know that). so after he said that, I told them that the last time was 2 years ago.

Yeah category I is 93-99 I think. Did they put that you had smoked on your recruitment papers? Because you'll get asked again when you go to MEPS. My recruiter basically told me to deny having done any "bad" thing I've ever done, and excluded it all from my paperwork. ("bad" in this context being any drug use, any injuries, non-important medical issues or legal issues, speeding tickets/parking violations) I don't know what yours told you, but you just have to make sure you're consistent. There's also a thing called the "Moment of Truth" before you start basic where they grill you and try to get you to admit to any of the above by claiming that they KNOW you lied etc and you HAVE to come clean before you start. (I never got to this part, but I was told about it by some enlistees). Just be consistent with all that stuff I guess.
