I don't think Diamond is any different from what Platinum is now.
I think they just renamed the leagues so Diamond is now Plat, Plat is now Gold etc etc. They removed copper at the end so Bronze is now the new Copper.

Unless Bronze is now the size of the old bronze and copper combined ratio-wise. Like if it were 30% copper, 25% bronze, 20% silver, 15% gold, 10% platinum and got changed to 40% bronze, 30% silver, 15% gold, 10% platinum, 5% diamond or something like that. They said they revamped the whole thing so I guess we'll see. I think it was way too easy to make platinum before so hopefully they actually rebalanced it instead of just changing the names and starting numbers. The fact that they explained all the balance/unit changes, but didn't even brush on the changes to the leagues/matchmaking causes me some slight nerd rage.

I'm starting to worry that battle.net won't get up tonight, which means perhaps no Starcraft 2 over the weekend.
Or maybe it's just taking a while to clear the database.

I'm not worred, I am sure the servers will be up very shortly. It's only friday, we have the entire weekend, and a long weekend i canada.. Monday is Victoria Secret day here, stat holiday

Well, whatever the problem is, I'm sure the blizzard team is working hard to fix it, and will get bnet up and running as soon as possible.

its only 5:30 PST they have had patches come back online after 8 PST before im confident it will be up tonight

so they reset the ladder to start all over with a new system, and change the names a little so all the platinum players who would no longer be platinum won't rage quit because they are now gold?
Aether might be right though, I suppose I can't criticize changing the names from two crappy metals that look similar into one crappy metal, then instead of having your top tier be a metal, be an entire other substance/theme. I can buy that, platinum is very skilled players, diamond is, you are/should be a pro gamer.

They wouldn't do that...

I wonder if you will be able to get into Diamond via placement games or if it will require like a minimum amount of games to be placed in it. Like 2k+ platinum?

Right when I loaded mine after I patched it it told me my graphics were out of date. I find that strange because I'm running SC2 on almost all ultra settings. Did anyone else get a message like that?

Yes, Nvidia updated their graphics card drivers.

They said you can't get into diamond from placement matches. Also I think I like the new rating system starting at 0. I know it doesn't matter much but it'll feel like I'm leveling up. Maybe the rating thing will start to catch on now instead of people posting that they're #1 in their garbage division.
