Stork: progaming is all about Stork right now as he is dominating the progaming scene like a bonjwa right now. Teamliquid and it's hater bandwagon are all over the guy since his advancment into the OSL final. There have been eight threads on Stork in less than a week. Stork is on his way to becoming probably the most accomplished protoss player ever; a protoss Nada perhaps. Stork is 11 wins away from becoming the protoss with the most wins ever. Given that Nalra is retired, Reach is close to retirement and Bisu, Anytime, and Best need 69, 66, and 124 wins respectively to tie him at the moment, it is pretty likely that Stork will hold that record forever. How many commas can I fit in a sentence? Along with that, Stork has by far the best winning percentage of any protoss who has played a large amount of games at 62.2%. No protoss with over 150 games played has a winning percentage over 59%. Also Stork will have been the protoss tied for the most starleague final appearances at four. Finally Stork, since his ressurgence in early 2007 after a failed 2006, has been an unconscious 127-60 (68%). No progamer has had such mind boggling consistency after being near 50% winrate for the first two years of their career. As we can see Stork's stats are bithchin. However he needs a you know what to become that all time best. Even though his opponent here is stylistically a lost different from Best, Stork's mirror has got to be juiced up like he just shot up 3 bottles of PvP steroids.
Kal is facing an opponent who just splattered a 85% PvP winrate toss on a 16 PvP game win streak. This is a good opportunity for Kal to panic out of his mind. However, being the progamer he is, Kal should look back at his MSL semifinal bo5 against Jangbi as inspiration for the upcoming battle. In that series Kal overcame a better player who stomped him in 2 straight up macro games. Kal should implement cheesy/aggressive strategies to try and hopefully throw Stork off balance. There is absolutely no way Kal can take on Stork in a macro battle. Against Stork Kal is going to have to be the Stork of the Stork vs Best series.

Am I the only one supporting Kal? Obviously Stork is a heavy favourite but I hope that Kal will somehow manage to take the series (and no, I'm not Stork hater , I totally hope he will take OSL and I rooted for him against Best with all my heart; but I just like Kal better).

Stork will have a tough fight in his hand, Kal is a very stubborn player and a previous silver medalist for the MSL too, he will not go down easily.

Hell there's always a chance that one progamer will beat another, but I say Stork has got this. There's nothing much I don't like about Kal, in fact, I like the guy, it's just that I believe this is Stork's time to win both the MSL and OSL.

I think Kal has a chance. This isn't like the Ro16 vs. ForGG, which Stork really did not need much practice on because ForGG's his whipping boy and it's PvT.
The fact that Stork could not have done much preparation for this match does work heavily in Kal's favor, especially if he has something cute planned. Of course, if he for some reason decides to play straight-up, he has zero chance.

Stork should've fled when he realized there was no chance of winning that fight with Kal's number advantage and position advantage. He could've made Kal pay for putting so much into an early push seeing as how you can defend your ramp pretty easily on that map.

my stream sucked at first also, but i canceled it and retried until i got a good stream, seems like sometimes u get a bad spot or something :/ i dont know how it works but now the stream is fine for me.

This reminded me of the Stork vs Best @ blue storm game, both have equal armies or so. Still Stork comes ahead by a looot of units, his large army micro\position\control is beyond great.

Not a bad game from Kal. He really macro'ed up a lot of units despite losing his natural from the late 3-gate proxy. Stork managed to win that decisive battle though and that was basically it.

I don't think he was that behind, since Stork cut probes pretty bad to do his 4gate goons. He also lost the 3 gates/pylon soon after Kal took back his nat, and his own nat was delayed by DTs.
They were pretty even at that point imo (Kal slightly ahead I believed), and I thought Kal was definitely ahead when he took his 3rd earlier, but Stork's DT evened it up. Close, close game, that huge battle decided it all.

I guess having to play Bo5 PvP Friday, Bo3 PvT Saturday (games 2 & 3), Bo3 PvZ Sunday one week and then Bo5 PvP Thursday the week after, while preparing for the OSL Bo5 PvT final on Saturday is a bit much. Would've been nice if they had switched the quarters, so Stork would only have had to play next week.
Kudos to Kal though, he looked better prepared

Also I know Stork has been practicing for OSL but Kal flat out dominated the three games he won, including having the inferior position on Medusa, game 2 was a great back and forth game, and game 4 was excellent by Stork (though if the DT got out...).
I've always liked Stork but he just isn't a killer - doesn't have it in him. Take away the meticulous preparation (like for the Best series) and he doesn't have that extra intangible to carry him through a side-series that he should win on paper. It's a testament to Stork's skill that the series still went 5 games. Props to Kal though, as he almost swept the series, and was in no danger of losing any of the games that he won.

Perhaps my wording was too harsh (nerves + choke = exaggeration), but the point is Stork definitely still does not have that extra killer instinct to seal the deal.
I know Kal's a great player but didn't we all just get done talking about how Stork had anointed himself the best PvP ever? And he turns around and loses a PvP, BO5 no less, to a guy who has never been renowned for his PvP. And yeah, the first fight in PvP is a tossup, but that's what players with nerves of steel are all about - they seem to always win the tossups in big games.
I will admit, Kal either got lucky or was very very smart/good with that Reaver in game 5 ... I thought for sure it was going to die but I guess the advantage of having the Shuttle pop out of nowhere from over the cliff was enough to keep it from getting sniped. One way or another, Kal stepped up and made all the big plays in the big game, and Stork really did nothing that was even above mediocre for a pro except maybe his dealing with the manner-Pylon (he still lost a Probe by the way).
So again, maybe it's not a blatant choke like goon range, and Stork wasn't as out of it as he was in the Flash domination, but when push comes to shove, Stork doesn't step up. In my book (you may disagree), not stepping up when you're a superior player is choking, or at least nerves. Like Hot_Bid said, Stork's just another Karl Malone.

If you have a practise for a final and a quarter, it's quite obvious that you will prioritize the final.
Just compare todays games to the ones against Best. Thought, I hope this doesn't affect Stork mentally for the final.

That series was a knife-edge pvp; there was only one game which was the exception to that and that was game 4. Knife edge pvps are where the moment one player fucks up he's done for. Game 1 we had stork not scouting the 3gate and losing an early goon => kal rides the adv to victory. Game 2 we had stork/kal coming out even after a close opening then Stork fucking up kals army lategame and winning it right there. Game 3 we had kals DT running the show then kal scouting stork's tech effectively shutting stork out. Game 5 was Stork getting hit too bad with one scarab and then kal's reaver getting a huge probe clump ending it for stork. The fact that stork lost the series is a tribute to the 50/50 nature of low level pvp (which is what he was playing today)
Kal played really well, im not trying to take anything away from his victory. But Stork just was playing averagely and as good as Kal was.

Beating up on mostly second tier Protoss players in PvP, cheesing boxer, and losing to a lot of Zergs- Best was hardly the undisputed Protoss king. I just finished watching the series. Kal played damn well, and, yes that word, it looked like Stork choked a little in the last game. In the fight at Kal's natural, his control was simply bad and he fell behind - Kal exploited that afterwards.

wow, stork really didn't prove anything in this series. Kal made stork look like an average toss.
In game 4 there was nothing pimp imo, just perfectly done counter vs pvp fe.

Kal played really smart this series. I guess being the underdog took off a lot of pressure, but still, he deserves all the credit. I love Kal, and I think that with a better game reading he could climb to the protoss olympus, but as of right now, he is not a better protoss than Stork.
In this series, he completely won the mind game, something Stork is not really good at, but I don't know what will happen if he faces Jangbi. This guy has the killer instinct Stork doesn't.
I'd love to see Nada do it again and win it all, but if Free wins, I really hope he can take it home. If both fail, fuck, let Kal win it.

Kal used 5 different builds in 5 games. Stork died.
Also, Stork's probes have scout hax -_- They always catch the most important part of a game super early or they catch nothing at all... and the guy ends up going completely standard.

Also, Stork's probes have scout hax -_- They always catch the most important part of a game super early or they catch nothing at all... and the guy ends up going completely standard.
Stork just practices a lot so he knows where cheesy stuff is likely to be: the best example is his OSL ro16 match vs. Fantasy, where he put his pylon down where Fantasy's proxy barracks landed.
Also, Best didn't use the same 4 build orders... He used a proxy game 1 remember?

Damn I'm really sad. Kal definitely deserved it the way he played but Stork is my man. I hope this doesn't get to his head, his most important goal right now is winning the OSL.

can't believe people are giving Stork shit for losing a BO5 PvP to an excellent player in Kal. (It's not like he got raped. He lost 2-3.) His PvP has always been solid, although not as known as stork's or best's. The man has OSL finals match coming up in a couple days. come on now.

Agreed. I know that theres a lot of Stork haters out there but losing 2-3 to Kal is acceptable since staying in both the MSL and OSL up to this point is pretty damn good nonetheless.

I don't care what the last matchup he practiced was for...Stork most likely has been focusing on that PvT. To add on to that, BeSt and Kal have completely different styles. It's not like he shouldn't need to practice as much vs Kal because he practiced his ass off for BeSt. That makes no sense, especially in a BO5 that requires heavy preparation for the mental game, strategies, and so much more.

I'd agree. Stork was not...fully prepared, nor was he however, unprepared. Kal is a formidable opponent with a very unique style, so you can not just play against Best [who is more of a generic macro toss, just much much better] and apply the same techniques to him. Nonetheless, he did play below expectations. Simply in macro, game sense, army control etc. But, like FORGG, Flash, etc before him, hes obviously burnt out from practicing for multiple arrangements. An acceptable defeat, really.

Definitely, Stork did an interview after his series with BeSt saying how he studied each and every build BeSt did on each map especially Medusa which he did predicted BeSt's build and countered with a 4gate build and beat him. With the importance of the OSL, Stork obviously would rather spend more time studying Fantasy's builds rather than Kal's. Its tough for anyone to practice for 2 bo5 in the same week.

however, if he didn't have osl he may would have won because he would have been able to develop strategies specifically against kal's habits. we don't know, though, and i seriously doubt it affected him in any other way.

if he plays against fantasy like he did against best then we will know his lack of practice cost him the game against Kal.

Wow. Stork practicing for PvP against BeSt/Bisu is completely different from a whole new another BEST OUT OF 5 series verses Kal. Even if he mainly focused on PvT for _three_ days, his PvP could get sloppy. Stork most likely concentrated on the series against Fantasy and analyzing him, while Kal had nothing better to do besides practice PvP and watch every single video of Stork. And it will cost Stork the match against players like Kal.
Not that it ended up being a lopsided match anyway. Stork barely lost, 2-3.

i dunno, even thinking about it stork did have a few prepared builds against kal - he had to have practiced a little for the match.

Against two people who play relatively standard PvP compared to Kal. While Kal could tailor his practice 100% to Stork, Stork's practice for Best/Bisu was not 100% applicable to Kal, because of the major difference in his opponent's play style, and the map pool. In sets where he doesn't have much time to practice, Stork reverts to his fairly standard play (e.g. good ol' proxy dt's into 2base carriers vs. ForGG). And against a player who plays unconventionally, like Kal, he might struggle a bit.
Best on the other hand, practices a fairly conventional game. His builds are rarely anything out of the ordinary, and unpressured, Best will play a fairly standard macro game. While his planning is fairly standard however, he has the ability to think quickly and pull something out on the spot to exploit his opponents' weaknesses. Watch Best vs. Luxury game 3 or Nada vs. Best in Ever 2008 OSL. Even though Best seems to be backed into a corner, he pulls out a surprise to salvage the game, such as ferrying out a zealot rush just out of sight of Luxury's zerglings, or destroying the assimilators to seal his own front door on Troy, buying time so that he can tech appropriately to beat a biomech push.
These two players have different strengths. Against a player of Stork's caliber, Best's tricks can't save him against Stork's flawless execution, because he just doesn't give a wide enough opening for Best to take advantage of. A player like Kal is completely different though. Stork's planning falters against his crazily unconventional play, but Best can take advantage of Kal's weaknesses in execution. Hence, we see Kal is historically 6:3 against Stork, but 0:2 against Best.
In my eyes, these two Protoss kings, Best and Stork are not different enough in skill to say that one is definitely superior to the other. They have different styles, and win different games because of them.
