This is the first time I've been around for the prelims of a tournment so I have a few questions that are probably noobish. Are there players that don't have to go through this group prelim stage, like are there players already seeded into the tournment? I ask this because I don't see Flash or Best and a few others on the list and I wasn't sure if maybe they just decided not to play in this tournment or whether they had just been seeded through for some reason.
All players in the round 2 of the previous OSL are automatically seeded into the next OSL (Round 1/ODT round). Players that went 1-2 in round 1 of the previous OSL (ODT round) are automatically seeded into the next OSC.
Edit: It appears that now, half of the ODT players are eliminated to the preliminaries (both the 0-2 and the 1-2 players).
So yes, there are players that get to skip this stage.

Things changed this time around. Players that went 1-2 are now in PSL not the ODT. For example, Casy still has to go through the offlines.

Thank you for bringing that up. I didn't hear anything about that before so I assumed it was going to be the same. Looks like it's getting more and more scary for the ODT players.

Yeah, no one else said anything, I just sort of noticed it. Also, I think the OSC and especially the ODT/ OSL ro 24 this year is going to have some great games. Theres lots of old favorites not looking as dominant as well as many new player doing well.

July will be seeded into the Ro16 (assuming last season's rules). Stork was in the Ro16 of the last OSL, meaning he will be seeded into the next ODT (OSL Round 1). Though it may appear to be one step below the Ro16, it is actually not the Ro32. There are only 24 players in ODT.

I think that really is a testament to just how competitive progaming is, because you always see no-names knock out some big name pros in the offline qualis.. Although a lot of that might be due to the cheese/special strats..

I'm pretty sure this is on OGN, as in the channel in Korea that you can get in some satellite or maybe cable bundles outside of Korea. It's not on Daum.
The OSC works in a very similar way to Round One of the OSL in that the groups work identically. The 24 players in Round One of the OSL come from Round Two and OSC. Thus the OSC needs to send 12 players up to Round One to fill up the numbers. OSC also has 24 players, 6 come from Round One and 18 from the offline qualifiers. The 6 players from the ODT come from the players who lost at the tiebreaker set and the 18 from the offline qualifiers come from the group winners.
If 18 players come from offline qualifiers, and there are 12 groups, how is the path from the offline qualifiers to the OSC? And it looks like 9 players per group?
That information is slightly outdated. Now, all 24 players come from offline qualifiers. There are 24 groups, 12 from each day. One player advances from each group.

I don't think Clon has a team anymore.
Which brings in to my mind something..
KTF is searching for an experienced pro-gamer to become a strategy coach.
Clon doesn't have a team and hasn't been doing very good at all as a pro-gamer, so chances of getting a team is slim. Why not become a strategy coach for KTF?

wow jaedong was so ahead, why didn't he push with all hydras, instead of gaying up the middle with lurks. the protoss had only like 1.5 groups of units compared to jaedongs 3+ groups of hydras.

It sure looked like a HUGE comeback (Jaedong was ahead in terms of resources), but now that I think about it, it seemed like Han was just biding his time to pull off a MASSIVE hanbang timing attack. And it worked. Amazing storms, amazing reaver micro, and very, very cost effective play won him the game.

I think the system is OK, it stimulates the competition, if there is a seeds and ranking system about the sc tournaments you will watch the same faces all over again, I think 12 out of 16 will be the same guys. About the games vs han, it really doesn't matter who is the better player overall, because the protoss guy played better in the set, he deserves to advance more than JD...just like July deserved the OSL title more than BeSt. JD should really focus on his MSL performance next season and good luck to Han
thank God 4 terran's advanced in the 2nd half. strong ones too, in light, iris, and gogo. dongrae i don't really care about, but since he's in lecaf he has really good training partners. maybe he'll actually do something this time around.

I think the slump of JD already started. This lost to han I think, is a result from the big upset of the MSL finals - 0-3 is not a joke - he got completely dominated by fOrGG and I think we will be able to see some more upsetting results from JD in the near future .
EARLY GROUPS Group A - Spear - Lost in Finals - I still think he should have been able to get out of that group. His loss in the finals is his own fauly after letting the hour long frist game that ended in a draw get to him. I give myself half a point Group B - Tester - Advances! - As I expected One full point Group C - hyvaa - Lost in Finals - I'll use the excuse that ZvZ outcomes can be unpredictable. Half a point Group D - Kal - Advances! - This one was easy. One point Group E - Jaedong - Lost in Finals - Seriously? Who the fuck is han? Jaedong had no excuse not to win his final match. Half a point Group F - 815 - Lost in Round of Four - Some nice upsets in this group. You are better than that 815, but you failed. You had a relatively easy group too. No points
Three and a half points for the first segment. Pretty good I think. None of my predictions lost in the first round, and only one didn't make it to the finals.
LATE GROUPS Group G - TT - Lost in Round of Four - I know you could have cheesed your way to victory, and I think you would have beat Iris had you made it to the finals, but you didn't. No points Group H - Light - Advances! - The winner of each match in the group was who I thought would win. Plus one Group I - go.go - Advances! - This one was too easy. One more Group J - DaezanG - Failed - Clearly I made the wrong call on this one. Oops. No points Group K - Shudder - Lost in Round of Four - I knew I should have went with HerO in this group. But I didn't. No points Group L - Sheis - Failed - Your TvZ is good and you had no business losing that match. Nothing
So the later group only gave me two points. Average I'd say. When they got to the finals they delivered, otherwise they pretty much sucked. I think my picks could have done better (obviously), but I don't think there were any major surpises from these six groups as to the six players advancing.
I am also going to change some of my Day 2 predictions after giving them some thought, I'll get those re-posted in a bit.
The earlier groups are pretty straightforward I think, while most of the later groups have a bit more difficulty to them or are much more even as far as player skill and experience goes.

Day 2 Predictions Ideal(What I want) Predictions + Show Spoiler +
A - Lomo
B - Memory
C - fOrGG
D - Firebathero
E - Hwasin
F - Nal_rA
G - Boxer
H - sAviOr
I - Midas OR ToSsGirL
J - XellOs OR GoRush
K - Casy OR LuCifer
L - Canata
Realistic Predictions
I'll only put analysis for the groups that have changed and how I think our beloved oldies will fall to the newcomers. + Show Spoiler +
Group A First off I HONESTLY don't see Lomo making it, and if he treats his games anyway like Jaedong did then he won't be able to win it, I can see Devil or BestGod getting this one.
Group B Both Memory and RuBy are ones I want to go through, but after what I saw happen to Jaedong(im going to be using that a lot get used to it) this Group is anyone's game but if I had anyone to give it to I'd say FireFirst
Group C Unchanged gogo fOrGG
Group D Unchanged gogo firebathero (though I would like saint to win :< )
Group E lol
Group F I could see Chalrenge take down rA, I know Bisu's PvP isnt ASTOUNDING or how it compares to rA's, but it all depends on if either can wade their way through the other matchups first.
Group G The sad truth, its BoxeR, everyone wants him to win because it would mean so much more since he's finally done with ACE. Things have changed since he was gone and you can't see everything just from Proleague, though there aren't any eye-openers in Group G I'm still worried about the outcomes (see Jaedong rant)
Group H sAviOr I have no doubts, if he loses I blame Jaedong. lol
Group I I have on my computer a replay of Nbs[gm] vs Savior(he's his pracitce partner or something) and the game I saw was an epic PvZ, I don't know how is PvT works out (because Stay doesn't looking hes staying hah hah haaa) but if anyone can take this group by suprise its him. (Of course I want Midas back btw, and ToSsGirL playing as terran..haha)
Group J Xellos, I'm a little worried about GoRush being in the group, but Xellos got qualified for the last 2 OSLs he can do it again. Btw the group name SeoJiHoon he better win
Group K I can't say no to Casy(WemadeFOX fan here) , but I can't shake the feeling that someone, maybe LuCifier, maybe not LuCifer, is going to be changing a few things around in this group. Group L If fOru works some magic and gets out of this alive I will have no major complaints (sorry Canata D: )

Man, this is such a brutal process. So many players that probably deserved to get in (Jaedong, anyone?) were eliminated here and have to wait until next season.

On the 30th, at the Yongsan eSports stadium, Park Ji Ho (Pusan[s.g] qualified for the main league through H group of 2008 Incruit Starleague
The following is a one-question and one-answer (someone tell me what 일문일답 is) with Pusan.
PLEASE NOTE that the way [someone] asked these questions is actually a statement, not a question. He or she elicits answers, using suggestive(?) statements.
Q. Feeling after entering a league after two years and three monthes. A. I am so elated. Around the time when I was disqualified from both leagues I wanted to take a break, so I was a freeloader for a while. I think I'm happy because the first challenge league I passed through I beat Savior and I beat him again today.
Q. The final game of Bo3 seemed the hardest. A. I don't know if you (viewers) saw the game or not, but I think they were all exciting. Before I faced Savior in MSL Ro16 before and lost due to zergling rush. This OSL Qualifiers I saw the brackets and was daunted by the caliber of players, but truthfully prepared because my opponent was Savior.
Q. Feeling after versing Savior. A. I was advatageous in the first game, but Savior played astonishingly well and I lost. Nevertheless my coach cheered me up, and I was able to mentally prepare for the next games. I was extremely nervous, but I was prepared from Ro8.
Q. Since this league is after a long break, you must have particular determinations. A. This is only one of the challenges I have to face. I still have three to go. The Ongamenet staff was lenient(sp?) on the brackets (laughs). Just kidding. I really want to at least advance to Ro16. If I reach there, I feel as if I could reach finals easily.
Q. Biggest number of MBCGame Heroes' players advanced into the preliminaries. A. Everyone practiced dilligently and phlegmatically. After seeing those who disqualified, I was piqued to "not become one of them".
Q. Any special comments you want to say A. After such a long respite from a starleague, I want to entertain fans with even more exciting games (than before). I was known for my monsterous army (not macro) so I will prepare for fantastic unit production as well as other techniques.
Go Pusan~
You own me something Plexa.
Man I just remembered I have a partially translated ToSsGirl article. -_- That one will take ages---
I really like the fact that pusan pass this. Just bad that he had to take off Savior for it since I would also like to see Savior but I guess the best of the two did pass
zerg fans should pray that July or Lux makes it to the Ro8... Thou I feel sad about savior I'm extremely happy that only a handful of zergs made it to the Ro32 and if everything goes fine only July and Lux will be in the Ro16.
EDIT: Wish sAviOr luck on the MSL qualifiers then.
yea seriously, savior's one televised game against pusan was impressive to say the least he's certainly not beaten.. its just a travesty that they were put into the same group ffs
Wow...I'm heartbroken for Oversky and Rainbow...damnit, almost.
Nal_keke made an impressive feat, beating Fancy and scratching go.go (1-2) is an impressive feat. I think the guy's still improving, one day who knows...
Take note of BaBy, too. That kid's rising. Fast. Miz.Peace ain't a rookie - and we all know who ForGG is, and how much he has shaped his TvT up recently.
And FBH out is like caressing all my wounds by the best doctor's in the world.
Who the heck is Doochi? Sporting a great amount of 3 minor league losses and almost breezing through a group like THAT? Starting with beating free of all people when he's forced to play one match more? Wow.
Midas - Welcome back!
About Justin: I think noone really ever tried to go deep into this as he's come off as negative to most TL people (to me too, actually ), but maybe he's just choking in the spotlight? (still, after this much time, who knows - it's just about his personality, nothing else). He may do well when the camera / audience isn't on
EARLY GROUPS Group A - Lomo - Lost in Round of Four - Lomo, you suck! No points Group B - RuBy - Lost in Round of Four - I'm not too disappointed with this result, Violet had a good chnce of emerging from this group. But still no points Group C - fOrGG - Advances! - Him not advancing and not riding his momentum is nearly uncomprehendable right now. One easy point Group D - fantasy - Advances! - I thought firebathero would have fallen to one of the protoss players, but fantasy, being the baller he is, took down fbh's TvT anyway. One point Group E - Hwasin - Advanced! - Some players are blessed with easy groups. One point Group F - Pure - Advanced! - After the last Proleague season, Pure was the obvious choice here. One point
Four points out of six possible. I'd say that's quite good, even if most of these group made for fairly simple predictions upsets can still happen. The two players who I didn't predict as advancing at least got past the first round.
LATER GROUPS Group G - s2 - Lost in Round of Four - I like Shark so I'm not too disappointed, even though he did defeat Boxer on the way I also blame ZvZ again. No points Group H - Shine - Lost in Round of Four - Fuck you Pusan. And fuck you too Shine for not beating Pusan so that Savior could devour you in the finals. I really thought Savior would make it through. My reverse psychology didn't work. He was even ahead in the finals. For Savior almost getting there... I give myself half a point Group I - Midas - Advanced! - Welcome back to television Midas. You also had one of those easy groups. One point Group J - SoO - Advanced! - I made the right call in changing my prediction on this one. One awesome point Group K - LuCifer - Lost in Round of Four - Just like I made the wrong call in switching here. Casy wasn't supposed to beat a Lucifer. Glad that Hyuk made it though. I give myself 0.25 points for this one Group L - Justin - Advanced! - Nobody wants Justin to advance, actually from the OGN website it appears he has a decent amount of Korean fans that do; but none of us want him to advance. He still does a lot of the time though and we can't help but accept that. One regretful point
For the later group I earned by my own counting: 3.75 points. Again I think I did very well here, especially since the last six groups were a little less straightforward than the first six. Again no one fell out before they could get past the first round.
I also did better than the couple of you others predicting outcomes. I'll take pride in being able to do that.
On July 31 2008 02:31 Showtime! wrote: I did a little bit better than you :p
But, in some cases I took two players. T_T Only one of my second selections advanced though so quite even.
The reason I counted myself as having done better is because I didn't choose two players. If I chose two I would have likely gotten a couple more correct, Hyun for sure and likely one or two others.
On July 31 2008 04:14 Showtime! wrote: Because you cannot base everything on stats from televised games.
Many players have been training months for this.
I don't. Can people please stop saying that someone bases everything off stats from televized games just because he posted a TLPD record. It's getting annoying.
Gah this isn't what I imagined the OSL would be like... (casy, jeadong, savior, boxer, even Hades ...well, i couldn't expect much from boxer and he's not my fav but seeing him back wouldve been awesome)
On the birght side MBCs Super Sniper SHARK[GM] made it, at least we'll see some interesting games from him.
When i went to sleep savior was up 1-0 and now he loses.... ah well, atleast shark and midas managed to pass, this should be a good OSL, hopefully these rookie zergs will show they've got game.
On July 31 2008 04:07 TheTyranid wrote: FUCK HYUK. FUCK THIS ZERG.
Casy even beat Lucifer who should have walked all over him. Then he gets beat by a Zerg.
I quit life.....................
Yah, that group was just complete nonsense. Lucifer loses at his strongest matchup (vT) playing against Casy whose vP is his weakest matchup (supposedly)
Afterwards, Casy loses at HIS strongest matchup (vZ) against Hyuk whose vT is his weakest matchup.
Apparently, logical outcomes don't apply to the offline preliminaries.
I was so fucking excited when I read the results spoiler and sAviOr was up 1-0 against Pusan, but then I fucking realized he's not advancing and screamed "FUCK YOU PUSAN" at the top of my lungs.
On July 31 2008 05:33 Tinithor wrote: Pretty depressing savior has fallen out of the leagues all together... does he still have to qualify for the MSL too?
I'm glad that I won't have to see jaedong knock out all my favourites in OSL and then losing to players I hate (forGG).
But even when not advancing, he has to rob me of one of my most favourite players, Leta.
Fuck you jaedong in all eternity, after raping much and hwasin I at least had respect for you, but after losing to a comparatively lousy player like forGG I've lost all of it.

Man, when I first read that, I didn't read comparatively and I was gonna flame you so hard. But yeah, Jaedong shoulda 4pooled after he was up 1-0.
I am so terrible pissed off right now at some of the results... Especially seeing some of those players I reaaaaally wanted to see go to the next round fall at the very doorstep of it. OMFG Savior, Boxer, Casy? And Xellos and Gorush got eliminated in the first round..... I am already starting to hate this OSL, and it hasn't even started yet. Heck, we don't even know who will be at the next OSL!
Come on fellas, just because your fav players didn't get through, it doesn't mean the osl wont be fun. I mean, if they didn't get through, its because they aren't good enough. We have better players-new players- to replace them. Some of them may become dominant in this osl. You don't have to remain a fan of only 4-5 pro gamers.

So Jaedong isn't good enough? Please lol. Probably just wasn't focused with Flash on his mind in the Gomtv finals.
Anyway I'll agree that it'll still be good I look forward to watching Pusan play.

Are you high?
Eh, only time will tell if Jaedong is still Jaedong or not. Losing 0-3 and failing to qualify leaves me with a question mark. And yes, Pusan is very ugly.
Pusan!!! is thorough!!! though at the expense of savior =(. Lomo failed... and Boxer . BTW, anyone know if FBH cried after losing to Fantasy? Didn't watch teh game =(
edit: Who the hell is jojoba?
edit2: ROFL, check out Dongae's record, how the hell did he get through?
Remember, this is the "Legend of the Fall" so I think one of these three will win the OSL... 1. BeSt (most probable) 2. Kal (royal road too) 3. Pure (royal road, least probable)

my bet is on pure. I really want him to become a top level player
Either han or tempest will be the one who carries on the legend of fall, I mean han last year just got embarrassed by july now hes taking down jaedong, and tempest in the msl qualifiers he took out july who at the moment has the most godly zvp on the scene not once but twice. Both of these feats i think we can safely attribute to this very season
As the things are going soon we will have ony terran and protoss league with no zergs remaining. I don't know why is that? Maybe because of the map pool? I have read somewhere some interview with an OSL MSL map maker and he said that he is favouring protoss always when he is constructing a new map.
