Oh my bad, lux did a 12 hatch, he has a lot of drone. Lux microes them well and the zealot does not much damage, but prevent mining for a while. Now best has 4 zealots, lux brought back the lings he had sent to best base.

It's random. And neither of them thumbed it down. I wonder why Best didn't, though - if this is all he prepared, he could've used it in Game X when this map is only played once.
And ofcourse, terrible mistake on not noticing the stream of zerglings + not adding more cannons (too fast tech! I mean, Lux cancelled his lair, there was no need to hurry)
Nice defense anyway, but it's more of Best's fault,imo.

Aside from the failed scout, you have to wonder if Best should have simply attacked the natural earlier, because Luxury's hatches were split up by a ramp (hold some zealots to stall, would at least force a drone drill) and I would assume there were no sunkens at the second one.

Lings heads toward best base, lux keeps one to chase the probe. But his ov scouts the 2nd canon being built, so lux comes back and kills the probe. Best having no scout is forced to send probes to hold the choke near the canons. Meanwhile lux resume gas and makes a den.

And it looks like the attack comes at the same time as a two hatch mutas build, so the protoss has to choose between making canon in main or at gates. How should a protoss counter this, seeing as he can't scount till he has corsair because of the speelings, and by then it's too late?

Continuously pump zealots from 1 gate do not mine from from 2nd gas and go a 2nd gate right in the middle of cyber warping.
Go make a cannon in main, 2 up front one close and a little further from the expo nexus.
Start making a stargate and send out 3 zealots + 1 goon and a probe to scout out to catch timing right before a hydra push. It should survive against about 10-12 lings with proper micro which is pretty much the amount the zerg will have to contain scouting. Any more, and you know its a zergling all-in.
It is very economically strenuous and weak if the zerg went a macro play but this is a safe way of going about doing it.

Against speed lings? I think that for a 2 hatch hydra, you start mining back gas a little bit before having ling speed, but if you wait for it before killing the scouting probe, you only have the range upgrade slower, but the same amount of hydras.

PvZ is the hardest mu to balance out, hence a history of poor pvz recs from leagues throughout the years.
ZvT =/ PvZ, much different dynamics and styles of play.

If the zerg invested in early spawning pool and zergling speed upgrade just to keep the protoss in the dark, isn't it only fair for the protoss to cut down his economy a little to check what the zerg is doing?
I hate it when protoss players whine about how they can't scout when they can. If the zerg cuts his economy to keep you in the dark, then do something about yourself rather than keep pumping probes and waiting for the first corsair hoping nothing bad happens before that.

What would you call it? An aggressive, low-econ build that has one good chance to deal big damage? If it's a strong econ build, why would anybody use 3 hatch muta instead?
I didn't mean to call 2 hatch muta cheese, though that's how it came out. Plus I've never even tried it or considered trying it, so I'm not in a position to say. Do you think it's not cheese? It seems equally cheesy to a hydra break to me, though I prefer to call it an all-in timing push.

His style is derived from logical analysis and build order advantages.
Very rigid, not typical of a strong PvZ player, which has the qualities of being intuitive and flexible. IE Bisu/Kal.

Nono I inferred about map pool balance, not the matchup itself. PvZ mu's are tough to balance out for maps.
But FE variations have sort of balanced it out, but on a map like hwarando where you don't get a gas surplus when the zerg will get +1 up, it becomes a slippery slope.

Yeah its an aggressive low-econ build. But its certanly not all-in. Yes, you CAN win in one blow, but you can also deal a great amount of damage which only gives you a slight advantage.

Lux sends his lings the wrong way at 2, but is sending one ling toward the 5 position, so he will scout best. Best has one zealot and two probes to hold position, so lux attacks the assims and manage to snipe one! A dragon is out for best, but he loses his zealot! Horrible play by best as he lets zergling coming down his main! Meanwhile lux has laid 2 more hatches, one at his nat.

Lux has killed best's secound assim, so best is sealed in his base. He has a shuttle out that lift zealots behind the assim. Lux had a den, and is now building a spire. A reaver his out for best, and a control group of zealot is heading towards lux.

Lux has some hydras, but they are trapped behind the assims choke. Scourge kills the shuttle, but lux loses all of his hydras due to some great reaver control from best, and ggs!

Short summary:
BeSt teched quickly. Lux sent some lings and closed BeSt's entrance, thinking to be ahead. BeSt went for a corsair and fast shuttle + reaver while pumping zealots. He ferried Zealots outside his base (like 16 of them) and sent them to Lux with Reavershuttle, raping him silly, as Luxury apparently expected more "Island map" like play from BeSt after confining him to his base.

Well, if he didn't seal it, would it make a difference? If he makes more fat units he just have to ferry them, a little extra multitask, can't be bad. But it didn't change anything because Best (obviously) wasn't going for goons but a zeal + reaver timing attack.

If Lux hadn't sealed the door he would have been able to continue scouting with his lings and maybe kept best on his toes, forcing a few more cannons. Considering he actually locked a few of his lings out when he took down the last assim, I just think Lux wasn't thinking when he did that.

Lux has three hatch, a spire his morphing and lux is taking his second gas at his nat. Best is making a canon at his main, and a stargate + robo is coming, but he only has one goon yet and i am afraid that one sair will not be enough. Lux still has a lot of lings and snipe a scouting probe. Lux is looking to go for a macro mode as he only builds two scourge to chase the sair and builds a 4 and 5 hatch.

Templar archive is morphing for best, and he has a shuttle with reaver, + 4 sairs. Lux has 4-6 scourge patroling the map, and quite many hydras. Best is building 3 more gateway for macro. Best tryes to drop, but the hydras are there, and he doesn't do much damage. Another drop heads for lux main, but there are hydras there too.

Best controls his shuttle pretty well as he tunrs it back instantly before being intercepted by scourge and then hydras. He now drops two reavers in lux main, and force hydras back, he takes the occasion to attack the third base of lux with zealots and his two reavers, and destroy it! Shuttle almost snipped by hydras, but it is still there with one reaver. Now the shuttle and reaver are dead, but lux has lost his third base, and some ov due to sairs.

What an amazing attack by BeSt, perfect Reaver micro, netting 19 kills on one of them (by my count), shutting down an expansion and putting Lux to 44 / 30 supply for a short time.

Best is back with one reaver and some lots, but lux snipes the reaver beautifully. Best heads towards lux second base, but lux defends. Now best is looking to do a templar drop, but lings scouts it, and lux pull back drones the instant he sees the shuttle. The templar are killed by hydras, and scourge suicide into the shuttle. But dark templar are coming now, and best has a fearsome army of goons/reaver/templar.

Best makes canon up his ramp so that he can go out with his army. Two lurkers are out for lux, and he puts one in front of best nat. A spire has finished morphing for lux, and a fourth hatch is building, and a fifth at a third base with gas. Best has an obs out and kill the luker in his nat.

Best is now morphing canon at his third. Lux is going lings + lurkers, while best has a lot of zealot, some goon and an archon. He alsa had a dark templar, but i didn't see what have happened to him. The two players are scouting each other, preventing the other to take an expansion. Oh there was the dark templar, scouting the 7 position, but lux brought an ov to kill it.

Lux attack it with lings, but there were zealot there, and now the canons are morphed. Best puts two templar in a shuttle.

Ok best kills the red hatch, and lux keeps suiciding lings into archons. Lux has defiler now and is going to do go for a drop again. Lux still doing a nice job of preventing best to expand further, but it is still 4 base versus 3 for best. Defiler + lings heads toward best's fourth, but a templar is there and defends. Best is almost maxed out, archons + dark templar are there, and heads towards lux nat, tearing it apart. Lux drops best main, but his own main is reached by best army, and lux gg! 3-2 for best, amazing come-back!

Best really has incredible mechanics, both micro and macro. Is it just me, or do all players who excel in mirror matchups have incredibly solid mechanics? (LJD, Best, Stork/Bisu when they were actually good, FBH, Sea)

Best never reached 80% in PvP. Whoever organized the TLPD statistics made a mistake by not including some of Best's matches in Survivor Tournaments and Dual Tournaments. His PvP skills are something to behold, there's no doubting in that, but lets not get carried away by incorrect statistics. In his relatively short career, he lost four times to Stork, twice to Lucifer, twice to Jangbi and once each to Rock, Bisu and ForU. That's eleven defeats, not five as TLPD records.
I'm bitter as hell because Luxury should have taken that series. Best's played very well, but it was nothing a top class zerg couldn't handle, not in this map pool. I really believe that this is more of luxury's loss than Best's win... What was luxury thinking in those last 3 games, He had it in 3 and 4 but some terrible decisions cost him the game. Then in the 5th game he just totally broke down. Heartbreaking to watch since i was rooting for luxury...

Sure, Lux had a mental breakdown it's not like that was spontaneous! We have to give all credit to BeSt for having the mental fortitude to stay in this match down 2-0 with lings running around in his base and 2-1 with his nexus near dead. That is balls.
Especially given the map pool, this was more BeSt's victory than Lux's loss.

Agreed. BeSt took those near-losses in games 3 and 4 very well. He managed to keep himself together and come back for the win.

I've been wondering about that too. But maybe it's because he somehow knew he couldn't win a straight up game that exceeded a rush like strategy or something? His series against Stork was crap and maybe it didn't improve much in his preperation for this match thinking I really need some early advantage to win or I'm just dead with my ZvP skills later as the game progresses? Just a thought.

He is the best zerg in the scene along with Jaedong. It's shattering to see a zerg player of Luxury's caliber lose because the way in which Luxury played today was utterly disgusting and I know he could have gotten himself a place in the finals if not for that.
Best played better and deserved his place in the finals. I'm just dissapointed because the finals was Luxury's for the taking and he failed to capitalize on this golden opportunity.

I was looking forward to seeing Luxury maybe on #2 spot on the PR next month if he won , but all well remember that there is always next time and try to take this time as experience , and if you have even i slight advantage use it to annihilate your opponent ...

Luxury fared a lot better in the first two games when he was much more aggressive. BeSt seems to do best when he is allowed time for his macro to kick in.

Yeah but then again every final would end up being a draw
Edit: Kwanro is doing pretty good in PL but he is not a newcomer. The only newcomer that actually did pretty good in the GSL is Effort . He even won a game versus FBH in PL but was kinda easy win , but props for him takeing out the newby dancer .

Well gj at best winning, because quite frankly i am not impressed with lux play and i would hate to see the finals ruin with either ZvZ or another poor performance from lux ZvP all in..
Basicaly all lux did was denied the rush, all in hydra, and thats it.. Like he cant play if the game doesnt end quickly... Not a champion material .

Exactly, no one... Luxury is good ZvT though. But JD is pretty much alone at the top. Then again, you could say the same for Terrans with Flash clearly at the top.
But Protoss have tons of strong players. Protoss is the new Terran in Korea.

I couldnt see the games since i had to go out. Before i left the score was 2-0 for Lux (I voted Best). I just saw the start of the 3rd game (where lux was raping), and closed the stream and went out. I came back and had a nice surprise

I hate Best. And I think he's overrated. It was very impressive how he didn't break under that much pressure though. Very very impressive on that part.
But Lux just stinks. He's a map strat player and he obviously has a very unstable mind. THe complete implosion of games 3-5 were just beyond belief. No mutas period. Even once all the corsairs were dead. I saw no mutas out to counter the HT. I didn't even see him go for HT. His lings just kept going in mindless waves. I saw so many points in those games where he was just playing lackluster as hell. It was like he didn't care to work hard for his win. He just spammed units out, and responded in stereotypical fashion. No brilliant maneuvers really.
Especially game 5. what was that 20 ling run by a warping in Nexus at the nat? He could have contained Best so easily by outmaneuvering with his lings. Best would have had to cancel Nex, and then camp the army there to get it back up. If nothing else, it keeps Best's eco way down for awhile. He WATCHED while Best just grabbed expo after expo. He just milled his lings around the map, doing hardly anything, while going for 3/3. It's like he was trying to be a zerg version of Flash. Sorry, but Lux did not use Hwarangdo to his advantage at all. And it was like he wasn't even thinking.
Just look at his attack on Best's 3 o'clock. Case in point. What does Lux use to attack? 4 groups of Lings + a defiler. Nice. What does Best have on defense? Choke blocked + 3 HTs and cannons. Hey! It looks like Best is actually using his head! Unlike Lux. I swear, it was just like cannons + HT = no attacking for Lux. Really bad play on Lux's part. Best was UP 1 base for the last 20 min of that game.

What the hell EGoldman. Luxury played great in all games, BeSt played better and that's the whole story.
I thought Luxury would crush BeSt 3-1 or 3-0 because I thought he'd be better prepared but that wasn't the case. BeSt was better prepared so he was able to come back and even the score. BeSt is amazing in terms of skill and Luxury went down in the final game not because he sucked but only because BeSt knows how to win PvZ against anyone. Man, there's a reason why Luxury is 2nd best zerg right now. There's also a reason why BeSt is the fastest rising star of 2008.
It was a crazy series with back and forth wrestling, biting and hair-pulling but in the end the better player came out on top. Great respect for BeSt, he's such a baller to keep his cool and turn around a seemingly lost series in the semi-finals. Wow!

Epic comeback but I expected better games. There wasn't a single match were both players did well.
It was fun to watch, tense, and whatever you want, but in overall, it was not a great series.
Hwasin vs Jaedong was not as close, but the games were just another level.
Anyway props to BeSt for not collapsing under pressure. Now this OSL is his, as he cannot possibly loose to BackHo (yes, BackHo will beat July...)

Dear all you haters: Lux is the man after 2-0ing Flash, but then he loses to BeSt and all of a sudden he's worthless? I understand ZvP is his worst matchup, but PvZ is BeSt's worst as well (and by a greater margin).
Even if the game quality wasn't stellar (which I blame on the map pool and Lux's fear of BeSt's late-game) this series still proved that BeSt has the poise required to take out an S-class player in his worst matchup. With July on deck he may have to do it again, but if it's BackHo this OSL is pretty much over.

Just watched games 1-3 and on 4..........Yeah Lux lost it. I know some will say I'm just denying the fact blah blah but Lux lost it wayyyyyyy more than Best won it. The zealot shuttle was pimp, but both games if Lux had just went mutas.........it would've been over -_-

So after the ever so sexy two games he raped Best lets look at the others . The game on Troy BEST obviously had a build prepared there as he goes one gate tech . Luxury goes for an interesting 9 pool speed build looking to inflict damage on a ever so popular FE build . But look at this BEST doesn't have an FE and he is blocking the ramp with a zealot. This looks like a chance for Luxury to either shut BEST in his main or inflict heavy eco damage or completely annihilate him . Best doesn't have a say in that matter as he has only 1 zealot and 1 goon the rest of his economy is spend on the fast stargate tech versus the power of 1 Hat zergling pumping .As the awaited battle starts luxury overpowers Best's 1 zeal and goon and they are forced to retreat the key position that could change the flow of the game but with BEST's BUILD NOT DRASTICLY! And now has the chance come to do economy damage shutdown BEST or completely annihilate him . Luxury choosed what was for me the smart decision as he doesn't know what BEST's build is and can't possibly annihilate BEST with the econ disadvantage of the 9 pool speed . He killed the assims locking his zerglings in there to do possible economy damage . The damage wasn't much but the fact that Best will stay on a 1 base 1 gas for a while remains . After that it all went downhill for Luxury that game as BEST's plan came in to action and he started to vessel all his newly made zealots and a reaver outside of his base .Controling the air was a must for both players after the dead of the assims but Luxury didn't capitalize on that as BEST had already the advantage of 2 corsairs not to mention the lack of luxurys tech WTF . Luxury not capitalizeing on Air was for me the game changeing break with BEST's plans right there . Luxury choosed hidra + scourge to counter the ever so popular reaver / shuttle build even not scouted . That was the mistake that changed the game in to BEST's favor a little mistake but so damn important . In my opinion he should have finished it with mutas /scourge because 2 corsairs/1 stargate can't possibly outmacro/kill a 3 hat 2 base muta / scourge pump .After choseing hidras it all went downhill for Luxury as his hidras couldn't do enything vs the army of a 12 zeals and a reaver + shuttle . The game itself was won purely with strategy that could even catch off guard Jaedong .
What pains me the most is not that Luxury lost that game but that he actually thought that he could lose the series . Despite this Luxury seems still strong as ever as the next game starts with a 9 pool speed run by the FE of BEST and in to the helpless main .After seeing how good his runby was i was curtain this series is Luxury and if it was JD i will just end watching right there. Luxury was in a position to end this with was like a huge opportunity to make a huge stress and economy disadvatage the disadvantage itself wasn't much as luxury focused mainly on the nexus and failed to kill it .
All in all the thing that lost luxury the series was mental stress and not capitalizeing on mutas or lurkers for that matter who are both a strong counter to the zeal reaver combo , the mutas are very strong on Hwarango ...
Seeing how this match went i think that BEST has little chances againts July 's aggressive style especialy on this maps , i would be happy to see July takeing his golden mouse either way . And if BackHO pulls an upset he better be upseting the damn final as well ...

Both players deserved it equally in my mind they were both fighting with their lifes the last 2-3 games .And i don't think that the skill gap is so big to call BEST the better player actually .

I was quoting from his interview, which the translator translated as "ee han timing".
This phrase was made popular in Jaedong vs. Stork finals, game 2 where JD came in with a perfectly-timed muta attack that turned the entire series around and...the rest is history. As he went in for the attack the announcers were screaming "ee han timing ee han timing".
I don't know Korean but from my understanding it translates to "one two timing" or more figuratively "this one timing".

I think a combination of Luxury having previously SWOWNED FlaSh in a BO3(aka using up all his energy and making him very, very confident.) and having half the macro of BeSt contributed to a loss for him. He was overconfident because he had owned FlaSh so hard. I'm glad he was taken out because a mentally unstable player is not good for a final. I'm hoping for BeSt vs July in the OSL finals.
