Before SnOw revealed that llIlIllIIlIIllI, thsvnfdj and qweqewqqe is Fantasy I went over this person's replays with a pro player and we found out its Fantasy based off of his hotkeys. based off of Fantasy's ladder activity you could argue he practiced the most out of anyone. Combined he had around 750 ladder games over 2 to 3 months or so. He had been active on ladder since mid December.

Terrans winning tournaments in their sleep, what else is new.

Bisu and Stork lost two games and won 10 K USD. Cool.

I mean both especially Bisu can earn that amount in 1 day on stream, there used to be crazy balloon donations. And let that Saudi money flow in.

damn Fantasy is really fun to watch, if he ever comes to Afreeca he might be my main player to follow
reminds me of Sharp but waaay more smarter and polished (and "sharper" pardon the pun), awesome vulture usage

guess I was right first time around (about thr format).. ugh... -.-
GGs anyway. Impressive result by the winner!

I hope this gave him the push to want to compete and stream. He is evidently good enough for it.

Yeah out of the 4 players Fantasy is the one who needs it the most, and kinda deserved the most, as he's the only one who practiced specifically for this tournament. For the others it's more of a nice trip to the Middle East with some decent money to bring home. Glad he won. Hope it gives him the motivation to stay in BW.

He looked really, really strong, it would be a shame to not compete more. But the fact he didn't even try for ASL makes me think this may be it.

He is evidently good enough for it. He doesn’t want to be a streamer and increasingly the landscape is intertwined between being a big BW player and streaming
I think if you had something like the old Kespa days where it was pure competition and nothing else, with the money being there he’d be back in a second

I kind of expected the result. Fantasy is a mech god and terran has always been bisu's and jaedong's achilles' hill. Fantasy also microed like a beast in that tourney, and he showed that he can compete with god tier players after only 3 months of practicing on the ladder (even taking games off of snow who's super strong against terran), so he has potential of winning the ASL.
But, I don't see him becoming a streamer though because he's very introverted, so I can't imagine him talking for hours to the camera and begging fans for donations to fund daily proleagues, though I think he would have killed it and get multiple all-kills in the major proleagues.
However, once Royal has to leave for mandatory military service, DP Academy (Best's and Hyuk's starcraft academy for female streamers) might need a new terran coach and Fantasy would be perfect for it since he's close to SKT guys. And if he does join the academy, you may see him in part of DP showmatches and competitions where he just shows up and play and be a coach for terran female players. There were talks about it on Hyuk's stream and this Korean forum linked below.

Fantasy really did crush everyone and did so in his typical hyper-aggressive style (which is exactly why he is my favourite player of all time). A little bit of mindgames, build order shenanigans, fanta gg timing. Lovely.
It's truly a shame the guy is not made for streaming - him going all-in on SC right now would bring fresh air into the scene. And since, historically, his best mu is vs P, perhaps he could rival Snow's current form.
His pro stats:
1v1 Record:
All: 264-159 (62.41%) vT: 82-49 (62.60%) vZ: 93-62 (60.00%) vP: 89-48 (64.96%)
What a fucking beast.

with no professional teams anymore, being a streamer is a requirement for making a living for BW players
I think there is a general mood (slightly joking but mostly serious) that you don't make as much money as a streamer by relying on gaming skills alone, so it would be interesting how lucrative or "worth it" it would be for Fantasy to just coach lightly and play in proleagues and comps (ASL, KCM, etc) while minimizing the streaming aspects
kind of a fascinating interplay between the streaming and gaming aspects in Afreeca, and the relationship to both in making money. Before the StarCraft university scene started, some ex-pros pretty much gave up playing BW completely
Also interesting theory suggested by Snow that some players' performance in ASL was improved because their streams were successful. His example was Mini when he won ASL, Snow theorized that because Mini's stream had become very successful, he wasn't as tense about performing well in ASL which allowed Mini to take some gambles in build choices because he wasn't as scared to fail. Perhaps a slight comparison to Hikaru Nakamura in chess who has seen his rating do very well while focusing on streaming and "not caring" about competitive chess

We do have some players like Light Queen and Mini who just play games and barely touch the streaming stuff and they're doing just fine. Especially Light who is a poker face guy.
Tbf Bisu and JD also mainly play games but they have a huge fanbase already that whatever they do would generate interest. I believe the fanbase for Fantasy should be big as well.
He's very close to Best and Hyuk who are running their Starcraft university. They even got him to Seoul (Fantasy doesn't live in Seoul) to watch the last ASL finals. Here's hoping they can lure Fantasy back to BW.

Just popped in to say that Fantasy/JD series was very fulfilling and made up for the other 2 lackluster series. Fantasy is in such good shape, i'm pretty astounded. And it wasn't like JD played bad, he looked great honestly. What a series.
No shade on SC2, cause I'm a huge fan of that game as well, but Fantasy vs JD (game 3 I think?) is proof of the strength and depth of Brood War as it compares to most other games. Just incredible, awesome, cinematic, gut-wrenching, and badass all around. Grats to Fantasy, super well played, but more impressed with JD honestly. I can't even imagine what it feels like to be a Zerg under that much continuous pressure all game - and in every game of the series.

I think JD played well other than the game on HBR where he kept all inning with muta/ling instead of transitioning into 3rd & lurkers faster. Maybe he felt the death push was coming if he didn't keep harassing and putting on pressure.

hard for me to imagine SC2 can have the type of swings and multi-tasking that happened in those games.
